LOS ANGELES — Three formats possessing some degree of a "rock" foundation are included in our thorough overview of February 2016 PPM results.
Getting us started is alternative – occasionally referred to as "modern rock" or "new rock."
Waiting in the wings are detailed summaries of mainstream rock (tomorrow, Thursday 3/24) and triple A (Friday, 3/25).
Facilities that rank in the top 20 in a PPM market (6+, February 2016) comprise the following alternative scoreboards.
Nielsen Audio only releases audience estimates for facilities that subscribe to its services, so owing to that reason, ratings stats in this exclusive RadioInfo analysis are limited to stations that pay Nielsen Audio for its data.
Mainstream rock is the next format to be summarized.
PPM Analysis: Alternative Rock.RadioInfo managing editor Mike Kinosian presents the first of three format analyses based on data from Nielsen Audio's February PPM survey. The first rock-based format up is alternative. There are only two PPM markets with competing alternative outlets and in both Los Angeles and San Diego, the stations are locked in a tight (6+) battle. KROQ tops KYSR in LA 3.1% to 2.9%, and in San Diego, KBZT bests XTRA 2.2% to 2.1%. The top three alternative stations from a market rank standpoint are KTCL, Denver and KPNT, St. Louis which both rank #4 in their markets (6+), and WOLT, Indianapolis, which ranks #6.
