It's Official: Trumps Names Pai FCC Chairman. On the heels of news reports suggesting that President
Donald Trump would name Republican Federal Communications Commissioner
Ajit Pai the new chairman, he's done just that. Pai will lead the three-member commission consisting of Pai's fellow Republican
Michael O'Rielly and Democrat
Mignon Clyburn until two more commissioners are named to the body by Trump. Pai's statement was simple: "I am deeply grateful to the President of the United States for
designating me the 34th Chairman of the
Federal Communications Commission. I look forward to working with the new Administration, my colleagues at the Commission, members of Congress, and the American public to bring the benefits of the digital age to all Americans." While Pai has been a friend to the radio industry, serving as a commissioner who is sensitive to efforts such as AM revitalization, the speculation is that this FCC will reverse
Tom Wheeler-era policies on net neutrality, broadband subscriber data privacy and others.
