On Friday's earnings call, executives from Saga Communications said last quarter's results were impacted by surprise sluggishness in June, but gave assurances that growth has already resumed in this quarter. Overall, the company saw higher earnings during the second quarter, helped by 4 percent revenue growth and slightly lower expenses. |
|
Saga Communications' net operating revenue in the second quarter came in at $32.9 million, up 4 percent from $31.6 million in Q2 2009. Net income was $3.7 million (87 cents per share), compared to $2.7 million (63 cents) a year ago. |

Emmis Communications has -- for the third time -- adjourned a special meeting of shareholders held to vote on a proposal to exchange preferred stock for debt that is a key part of the company's plan to go private through a merger with Chairman/CEO Jeff Smulyan's JS Acquisition. Talks continue with a group of shareholders that oppose the current proposal, and another meeting has been set for August 20. |

The FCC releases its complaint figures for the first quarter, and January saw a startling 128,301 complaints alleging broadcast and radio TV indecency -- nearly all of the 132,416 complaints in the quarter. Though the commission doesn't specify what programming drew the complaints, but the spike could be related to an activist group's campaign. |
