TALKERS
LOS ANGELES — This week's earlier posts illustrated exceptionally strong January 2017 PPM rebounding by all-news (Wednesday, 3/1) and commercial talk (Thursday, 3/2) properties.
Continuing the positive "Holiday" 2016 – January 2017 ratings trend is a group of stations we are designating "talk-oriented public."
To be clear, this is not an overview of all public outlets in PPM-markets, but rather a focus on those that are primarily information-intensive.
By the very nature of being public stations, programming can be multi-faceted, meaning some on our "talk-oriented public" panel could incorporate music blocks (jazz, classical, folk, bluegrass, etc.).
Purposefully excluded from this list are noncommercial public stations that are exclusively or principally music-reliant.
The following (6+) "talk-oriented public" scoreboards are comprised of stations that appeared in any of the 48 PPM-markets in January 2017, a ratings period that covered January 5 to February 1.
Nielsen Audio only releases audience estimates for facilities that subscribe to its services. Owing to that reason, ratings stats in this exclusive analysis are limited to stations that pay Nielsen Audio for its data.
