Big Round Of Layoffs At Clear Channel Underway

12-6-2012

There's been rampant speculation about another round of layoffs at Clear Channel for quite some time and Thursday employees around the country braced themselves as the hammer fell. Getting fired from your job is never fun; having it happen three weeks from Christmas can only make it worse. As one air personality who lost his job put it, "I'm out. When my airshift starts in about five minutes it'll feel more real I suppose."

On the other hand, there are also those who remain on the job and are tasked with carrying out the unenviable assignment of carrying out the company order. Not only do they have to deal with taking away the livelihood of their co-workers and lose friends, the question they will always ask themselves is Am I really safe?

One programmer we reached out to Thursday morning was about to go into a meeting where he had to let 10 people go. Ten seemed to be the number we heard a lot on Thursday. Many markets we heard from Thursday had lost about 10 people.

There's no real way to know exactly how many people were fired yesterday, it's not something a company puts on a press release. It's safe to say the carnage was in the hundreds. And, it didn't matter if you were a weekend jock or a 20-year veteran. This round focused a lot on the bigger markets like Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Columbus, Detroit and Denver, just to name a few.

More layoffs are expected today and we've been told, but have no way to confirm, today will focus more on management cuts.

If you have lost your job and would like Radio Ink to post your information to help you find another job in the industry, we will do it at no charge. Send all details to edryantheeditor@gmail.com

These are the MOST heartless, Ruthless Mo Fos on the planet!

Oh, no wait that would be the Dickey Boys, Pinch AND their Goomba Pizatti

These CEOs are just waiting for that day their investments in Struble's scam go IPO. They will retire somewhere exotic, out of reach of US law, and leave our airwaves in shambles.

Indeed, Don. Which leads to a next question:
Who are the mooks who get duped into investing in these paper mache companies....?

After over 40 years in the business I am so glad I'm at this end of my career! I wouldn't recommend to any young person to get into broadcasting...And I feel so badly for those who have spent years developing a career only to be a redundancy determined by an accountant. Remember the good old days when the "owner was inthe store". Now it's all about share value.

Dan:

What are you talking about? Pray for them? Doom on them for doing everyone to kill an industry, save your prayers for the needy, the sick, etc.

More Layoffs at Clear Channel

3-29-2012

This is no April Fools joke. More layoffs are taking place all around the country at radio's biggest company. Radio Ink heard from stations in Nashville, Oklahoma, Columbus, West Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Milwaukee and several other cities. If you were part of this round of layoffs and would like us to post your resume and aircheck, at no charge, contact Radio Ink editor Ed Ryan (edryantheeditor@gmail.com). Clear Channel confirmed the changes were taking place in an e-mail to Radio Ink on Thursday.

Clear Channel Vice President of Marketing & Entertainment Angel Aristone confirmed the changes were taking place. "We are constantly evaluating our organization and structure to make sure we are as well positioned as possible to continue to lead in the evolving marketplace. We?ve been looking closely at our business to ensure that we are properly staffed and operating as efficiently as possible with the right balance of services and personnel to meet the needs of our listeners/consumers.   Like every successful business, our strategy continues to evolve as we move forward as a company and that creates some new jobs, and unfortunately eliminates others. In the process, some employees were affected.  These are never easy decisions to make; we thank them for their service and wish them all the best for the future."

So the NAB had the CHUTZPAH to file comments with the FCC to further deregulate radio which
provides Clear Channel/Bain Capital-Wall Street
additional opportunities to lay off employees, and the NAB stated more consolidation would enhance
localism. I suggest, in my opinion, the NAB needs new leadership to bring in sunshine, use
some commonsense, and protect the membership
from destructive conduct.
