Diet Coke Goes Taylor Swift Crazy

10-31-14

She's a superstar in two format rights now and iHeartMedia is latching on to that stardom by bringing her closer to fans and helping sponsors latch on to her brand. And this is where the big platform with scale really pays off. Thursday morning Diet Coke presented Taylor Swift at the iHeartRadio Studios in midtown Manhattan. It was the first time an entire 4-hour Seacrest show was presented by a single brand.

Swift also co-hosted the program with Seacrest for all four hours. She released her latest album, 1989, earlier this week. Swift and Diet Coke teamed up with iHeartMedia for programming events all week, taking over every Premiere Networks-syndicated CHR show and its digital platforms to help promote the new album. The cross platform iHeartMedia takeover with Taylor Swift also included selfies of fans at the event and Diet Coke content being projected on Clear Channel Outdoors's boards in Times Square.

Taylor Was Lifeline For Community

12-9-13

Broadcasters that really love this business hope they have an opportunity like Jason Taylor had last week. And when that rare moment arrives, the great ones, like Jason Taylor, thrive. As ice storms barreled through North Texas and Southern Oklahoma, paralyzing the Sherman-Denison, TX, area last week, NextMedia Operations Manager Jason Taylor made plans to hunker down in the studio. In addition to doing his regular morning show shift on KMKT 93.1 Katy Country, all through the chilling weekend Taylor (pictured here) was a lifeline to the community as well as the thousands of truckers and travelers trying to make their way up and down US 75 between Texas and Oklahoma. Many were stranded for over 10 hours in freezing weather. Taylor told Radio Ink  it really felt incredible being on the air, helping the community. "When you know that the things that you and your coworkers are telling listeners, and sharing in social media could very well save a life, even just one, it makes everything you do worth it."

General Manager Hank McMonigle says Taylor stayed on the air with updates from local authorities and NextMedia's weather partners at KXII 12 TV. "Jason Taylor leads the staff by example. He understands the responsibility of our radio stations in the communities we serve when we are the front line for communication. The entire staff is proud of his efforts during this critical weather event. Everyone rallied their efforts around him." Listeners were encouraged to post photos and updates of their own on the station Facebook pages and, while power was out, many listeners reported what a lifeline the free phone app was for them. Even with no electricity they could still listen to Taylor on their phone.

Taylor also covered updates on KMAD 102.5 MadRock until morning host Dave Hilton was able to take over that station by remote control. During that same period of time, residents of Texoma and Collin County were also being kept up to date on weather and traffic conditions on 97.5 K-LAKE broadcasting from their studios in McKinney, TX. The combination of terrestrial radio, online streaming, and social media kept everyone more informed and up to date than ever.

Taylor says the outpouring of thanks for what he did has been overwhelming. "I feel that we were just doing our jobs. If someone loses power, or is stranded in their car, what medium are they going to turn to first? Radio. One reason I love this industry so much. We make a difference."

Reach out to Jason Tayloe to congratulate him on a job well done: jason@931kmkt.com

Hello. This is Taylor Swift Calling

21 years ago Don and John Zimmer were told by the experts they'd go broke if they went forward with their plans to put a country music station on in Columbia, Missouri. Yesterday the telephone rang in the studio of KCLR while morning team Scotty & Carissa were doing their show. It was Taylor Swift with news that not only the morning team had won the CMA for small market personality of the year, but that the station KCLR had also won for small market station of the year. It's the first CMA award the station has ever won and it doesn't get much cooler than getting a surprise call from Taylor Swift.

LISTEN TO THE TAYLOR SWIFT CALL TO THE STATION HERE

Ror the Zimmer's it's sweet victory. They've never second guessed their decision to go country back on Labor Day weekend in 1990 and in typical Zimmer fashion, they give all the credit for their success to ?We have been fortunate enough to have great people on our team. We try to find people that share our values. The values of leadership and respect. I think managing those core values, we are able to attract good people that share those same values. They are passionate about our stations.?

We have a 2-page profile on the success of KCLR in Radio Ink on November 7th. To subscribe CLICK HERE

Hot Tours: Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, American Idol

by Bob Allen  |   September 13, 2011 10:00 EDT

Ranking No. 1 on this week's Hot Tours recap is country superstar Kenny Chesney who takes the top spot in the weekly rankings for the third time since launching the Goin' Coastal Tour back in March.  This week's top ranking is based on ticket sales totals reported from the final four venues on the tour that wrapped during the last weekend of August.  The final arena on the tour schedule was Toronto's Air Canada Centre with 12,516 in the house for a performance on Aug. 18, followed two days later by the 11th stadium on the 2011 itinerary, Ford Field in Detroit.  Chesney's sold out concert at the home venue of the NFL's Detroit Lions was attended by 48,225 fans, generating $4.1 million in ticket sales revenue.  An outdoor concert on Aug. 24 at CMAC Performing Arts Center on the campus of Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, N.Y. was also a sellout with 14,710 sold seats.  The last stop on the schedule was also the tour's top-grossing venue, Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. with two sold out performances grossing $9.2 million.  Chesney played single shows at the home venue of the NFL's New England Patriots in 2005 through 2009, but this year marked his first two-show run at the stadium.  Combined attendance for both performances on Aug. 26 and 27 was 106,755.  Overall during its five month trek, the Goin' Coastal Tour grossed $84.5 million with more than 1.1 million tickets sold at 55 concerts.

With $7.9 million in box office grosses from three North American venues, Taylor Swift lands in second place among the ten top-grossing Hot Tours this week.  Each of the three venues hosted the country star's Speak Now World Tour for multiple-show runs with sellout crowds at each performance.  Swift played the Scottrade Center in St. Louis on Aug. 13 and 14 with just under 28,000 in the house for both nights.  The next two shows were in Canada at Edmonton's Rexall Place with a crowd of 25,336 on Aug. 18 and 19.  Four concerts at the Staples Center in Los Angeles from Aug. 23 through 28 produced a combined attendance total of 54,900 with $3.9 million in ticket sales, the top gross among the 22 arenas she has played during her North American tour leg this summer.

American Idols Live is third in the rankings with grosses totaling $3.9 million from eight arena performances reported during the past week.  Included in the counts is a two-show stint at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y. on Aug. 23 and 24.  The ticket sales total - $1,044,245 for both shows - is the highest gross reported on this summer's tour so far.  Following the Idols at No. 4 on the Hot Tours tally is the Grammy-winning rock duo the Black Keys with $2.5 million in box office grosses from eight Canadian concerts on its summer tour schedule.  All eight shows were sellouts with a combined total of 58,445 fans in attendance.

Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert Close Out CMA Music Fest

Special guests and sing-alongs helped enhance the Country Music Association Music Festival fan experience at LP Field.

Taylor Swift closed out the fourth and final night of concerts Sunday (June 12) with an energetic set that included career-spanning hits such as "Our Song," "Love Story" and "Story Of Us."

"The cool thing about being on this stage is you get a really good view," said Swift pausing to gaze at the cheering audience before launching into her bluegrass infused single "Mean."

Swift had her signature "13" painted on her right hand and Sugarland lyrics painted down her left arm that said: "Remember me in ribbons and curls, love your baby girl." She thrilled the in-field by running through the crowd to a second, roof top stage, where she played the ukulele and sang "Fearless."

Newlyweds Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert both acknowledged their recent nuptials during their CMA Fest performances.

Lambert thanked fans for giving her the best wedding present: her third No. 1 hit for "Heart Like Mine." She said she found out on her wedding day four weeks ago.

At one point, Lambert brought out her newly-formed girl band, Pistol Annies, to play their new single, "Hell on Heels." Backstage, Lambert said the band, with friends Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley, is "everything but a goofy side project" for her.

During her set, the crowd found out how she feels about beach balls being thrown while she's singing. One landed on stage, and she stomped the air out of it with her high heel, saying: "Is it just me or do those beach balls irritate the hell out of y'all?" She then asked everyone to hold onto them while she sang the emotional "The House That Built Me."

Surprise guest Trace Adkins got one of the biggest reactions of the night when he joined Shelton on "Hillbilly Bone." The stadium reverberated each time fans yelled "Yee haw" on cue.

Other full band performers Sunday night included the JaneDear Girls, Darius Rucker and the Band Perry.

Rucker got the crowd on its feet and answering back with a rousing version of "Family Tradition." The Band Perry had tens of thousands of backup singers during their performance of "If I Die Young." The single has sold more than 2 million copies.

The CMA Music Festival TV special featuring performances from LP Field will air later this summer on ABC.

Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber Win Early at 2011 Billboard Music Awards

The 2011 Billboard Music Awards kicked off with a bang, as pop stars like Rihanna, Britney Spears and the Black Eyed Peas rocked the stage of Las Vegas' MGM Grand, while Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Taio Cruz and Lady Antebellum snagged the first awards of the night.

Britney Spears made a triumphant return to the Billboard Music Awards stage with a surprise performance alongside Rihanna on the latter's hit single "S&M." The pop star pairing featured stripper poles, jeweled handcuffs, sultry backup dancers and two iconic pop singers strutting their stuff.

Soon after, host Ken Jeong took the stage in a trim suit and injected some high-class comedy into the ceremony with a throwback song-and-dance number alongside Train's Pat Monahan and Nicki Minaj. "It's great to see you again in Vegas -- this time, with my clothes on!" Jeong told the crowd, nodding to his hilarious nude scene in the Sin City-set blockbuster comedy "The Hangover." Jeong and "Modern Family" star Eric Stonestreet later played dueling Elvis impersonators, and the host was later shown cruising around Las Vegas and taking in a Celine Dion show.

"Glee" star Matthew Morrison presented the first award of the night -- the Billboard 200 Album Artist of the Year award -- to Taylor Swift, whose third full-length "Speak Now" topped the chart with over a million copies sold in its first week last year. "The impact of the album is all determined by the fans," the country star told the crowd, "and you've just given me another reason to be completely in love with you. Thank you so much!"

Justin Bieber took home the Digital Artist of the Year trophy, and embraced pop star girlfriend Selena Gomez when the award was announced. "I want to thank anybody who helped me get out of my hometown and live out my dream!" the pop star said.

Meanwhile, Taio Cruz, who topped the Hot 100 last year with "Break Your Heart" and "Dynamite," took home the Hot 100 Song of the Year trophy for "Dynamite," marking what the admittedly nervous singer described as "the first time I've ever received an award." Lady Antebellum followed by taking home the Country Song of the Year trophy for "Need You Now."

The Black Eyed Peas rocked the stage in futuristic attire with a high-octane medley of "Just Can't Get Enough," "The Time (Dirty Bit)," "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling," which was highlighted by an elaborate dance routine and Fergie attacking some impossibly high notes. Keith Urban followed with a performance of his country hit "Long Hot Summer" as wife Nicole Kidman watched on smiling.

The 2011 Billboard Music Awards will continue on ABC from Las Vegas with performances by Nicki Minaj, Lady Antebellum, Cee Lo Green, Taio Cruz, Far East Movement and Ke$ha, among others, while Neil Diamond will take the stage to deliver a not-to-be-missed performance.
