Ingstadt Picks Up Station's Townsquare Couldn't

12 stations in the Tri-Cities and Yakima have been picked up by Jim Ingstad for a little under $7 Million. Ingstad runs Radio Fargo Moorhead, a group of six stations in Fargo and Moorhead, Minn. Townsquare, which owns stations in both the Tri-Cities and Yakima, offered $6 million nearly a year ago to purchase the New Northwest stations. But the FCC wound up rejecting Townsquare?s plan to spin off excess stations into a third-party trust.

The stations in the Tri-Cities are: KUJ-FM, a Top-40 hits station; Country KIOK-FM, Classic Rocker KEGX-FM, taker KTCR-AM, Top-40 KKSR-FM, and KALE-AM, a FOX Sports affiliate. The Yakima stations are: Country KXDD-FM, Top-40 KRSE-FM, ESPN affiliate KJOX-AM, Oldies KARY-FM, news station KBBO-AM and KHHK-FM, a CHR format.

A Great Ending to A Tornado Tragedy.

A Great Ending to A Tornado Tragedy.

Many of you will remember a story we were closely watching several months ago regarding Cox Birmingham's Chris Coleman. In fact many of you donated money to Chris via a PayPal account we had set up shortly after a tornado ripped Coleman's house to shreds and destroyed everything he owned. We are happy to bring you the good news from Chris that he'll be moving into his new home (pictured) in less than 2 weeks. Coleman told Radio Ink this weekend that his family is doing very well and he's very thankful. "This has changed my life completely. I look a life totally different now...go to csquaredfoundation.org and see what I am doing here."

Coleman, who's house was totally destroyed in the tornado, says he had so much help and support from Cox and so many other people. "My DJ fraternity stepped up in a big way from the NAB to the ABA...MAN!!! I tear up every time I think about it. My Church and churches that I didn't attend showed up and helped out."

Are You Ready For Your Test Wednesday?

You'd be hard pressed to find anything, that will only last sixty seconds, as heavily promoted as the national EAS test planned for Wednesday. The test of the Emergency Alert System was recently shortened to 30 seconds instead of the originally planned two and a half minutes. This will result in a total test time of approximately 60 seconds including the data burst tones. The test is being conducted by FEMA, in coordination with the FCC and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It's the first ever nationwide Emergency Alert System test and it will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Broadcasters, cable television systems, and satellite radio providers are all required by law to participate in the test. FEMA says they need to know the system works effectively should public safety officials ever need to send an alert or warning to a large region of the United States. For the first time, the system designed to interrupt radio and television broadcasts to enable the government to deliver information to citizens in the event of a national emergency will be tested from coast to coast.

Clear Channel Launches Fisher House Campaign

Fisher House Foundation, which constructs comfortable homes to provide free, temporary housing to the families of service members receiving medical care at VA and military hospitals around the world, says it will receive continued media support from long standing partner Clear Channel Radio this Veterans Day. Clear Channel will launch the second annual Operation Fisher House, a week-long national media campaign designed to raise awareness and funding for Fisher House and the military members they serve.

Beginning today and running through Nov. 11, 2011, all 850 Clear Channel stations will promote the second annual Operation Fisher House and encourage listeners to tune in to the main fundraising event on Veterans Day.  Clear Channel will encourage donations via online or text message to the Fisher House Foundation through live discussions, on-air mentions, interviews and a series of public service announcements.

?Clear Channel?s remarkable reach and continued support is an amazing force for our military families,? said Ken Fisher, Chairman of Fisher House Foundation.  ?Fisher House and Clear Channel?s powerful message will continue to help veterans and their families across the United States.?  Over the last two years Clear Channel has raised nearly $1 million for Fisher House and has collectively donated media valued at more than $5 million.

?Clear Channel is committed to addressing issues that engage and impact our listeners across the United States,? said Jessica King, Clear Channel?s Director of Community Engagement.  ?A recent study shows that more Americans are involved with supporting troops than any other social issue today, and it is important for Clear Channel to support organizations that our listeners care about ? like Fisher House.?
