TWELVE TAKEAWAYS
1)
Washington, D.C. – Without an increase in the last three sweeps – including a hefty loss of one full-share in August (3.9 –
3.9 – 3.5 – 2.5, 6+) –
Greater Washington Educational Telecommunications classical WETA responds with a +.7 to 3.2 (6+), jumping from #17 to #13. Also advancing by seven-tenths is
iHeartMedia-owned WBIG "Big 100 Washington's Classic Rock"
(3.5 – 4.2, 6+), which climbs from eighth to seventh. While both stations that were tied at #1 in August are down in September, the deadlock is nonetheless resolved as
American University's WAMU "The Mind Is Our Medium" (9.1 – 9.0, -.1, 6+) takes sole possession of the top spot, while
Hubbard Broadcasting-owned all-news WTOP segues to second-place. Prior to tying WTOP at #1 in August, WAMU had been in the runner-up slot the previous seven sweeps. Among the recent trends for WAMU are
-1.2 in March;
+.7 in May;
+.5 in July and
+.5 in August. Without an increase for the fourth straight time for a combined -1.6 (10.3 – 10.3 – 9.4 – 9.1 – 8.7, 6+), WTOP, in May and June, registered a 10.3 – the station's most potent 6+-share in over five years (10.6, March 2011). Before dropping from first to second in the "Holiday" 2015 sweep, WTOP occupied the top spot the previous
12 ratings periods. Declining by one-half share each are
Radio One-owned WMMJ "Majic 102.3" (5.9 – 5.4, unchanged at #4) and iHeartMedia adult contemporary WASH (steady at #6, 6+). With a -.2 in
August, "Majic 102.3" had its consecutive streak of monthlies without a decrease end at five (3.9 – 4.7 – 5.5 – 5.5 – 5.6 – 6.1 – 5.9, 6+). Its July 6.1 was the station's strongest 6+-share in more than
six years (6.2, June 2010). Format rival –
Howard University's WHUR – is off by three-tenths (to 6.6, 6+), thus curtailing its successive string of up or steady trends at six (4.8 – 6.1 – 6.3 – 6.5 – 6.5 – 6.5 – 6.9, 6+). Meanwhile, WASH had been up or flat the past three survey periods for a net gain of six-tenths (4.4 – 4.4 – 4.6 – 5.0). In the market's hot AC contest,
CBS Radio's WIAD "94.7 Fresh" dials up a +.1 to 3.6 (6+), ending a mini-slide (3.8 – 3.7 – 3.6 – 3.5, 6+) yet actually backsides from eighth to tenth;
Cumulus Media's WRQX "Mix 107.3" (3.2 – 3.1, -.1, 6+) slips from #12 to #14. This marks the fifth straight decline for CBS Radio Spanish tropical WLZL "El Zol 107.9" (2.4 – 2.1 – 1.9 – 1.7 – 1.6 – 1.5, #19 to #20, 6+).
2)
Boston – Posting a gain for the third straight sweep netting a +.8 (3.7 – 4.0 – 4.2 – 4.5, 6+),
CBS Radio's WZLX "Classic Rock
100.7″ inches up from eighth to seventh. Following five successive downward trends totaling a -.7 (2.3 – 2.1 – 2.0 – 1.9 – 1.8 – 1.6, 6+), public WCRB added three-tenths in
August. "Classical Radio Boston" now improves by one-half share to 2.4, its strongest 6+-share since January 2011 (also 2.4) to climb from #19 to #18.
Although off by a combined one-half share in August and September (8.6 – 8.4 – 8.1, 6+),
Greater Media-owned WROR "Boston's Classic Hits" is #1 for the ninth successive monthly; its 8.6 in July was the strongest 6+-share in the station's
PPM-history. In second-place for the sixth consecutive sweep, adult contemporary sibling WMJX "Magic 106.7" is down or flat for the third straight time for a combined
-1.2 (7.5 – 6.9 – 6.3 – 6.3, 6+). Its -.6 in July halted a successive string of five increases for a cumulative
+1.2 (6.3 – 6.5 – 6.8 – 7.2 – 7.3 – 7.5, 6+). Also in that cluster, rhythmic hot AC WBQT "Hot 96.9" (unchanged at #9) notches its fourth successive up or flat trend (3.8 – 3.8 – 3.8 – 4.1 – 4.2, 6+). With a negative trend in each of the last four sweeps,
Entercom sports outlet WEEI-FM is a combined -1.1 (5.9 – 5.7 – 5.3 – 5.1 – 4.8, 6+) as the
Red Sox flagship slips from fifth to sixth. Similarly formatted, CBS Radio-owned WBZ-FM "The Sports Hub" is flat at 4.4 (6+), but the
New England Patriots' flagship slides from seventh to eighth. This is the third consecutive decline for
iHeartMedia CHR WXKS-FM "Kiss 108" (6.9 – 6.1 – 5.5 – 5.3, 6+) for a combined -1.6. Cross-town rival – CBS Radio's WODS "Amp" is flat at 3.5 (6+) to drop from #11 to #12. Frozen at 7.0 (6+) in February and March, "Kiss 108" dropped one
full-share in April; bounced back with a +.7 in May and +.2 in June, but was -.8 in July. It finishes in third-place for the sixth successive time. In
June, "Amp" had its string of successive monthlies without a loss end at three (3.8 – 4.1 – 4.1 – 4.4, 6+).
3)
Detroit – An improvement of six-tenths (5.4 – 6.0, 6+) enables
CBS Radio classic hits-oldies WOMC "Detroit's Greatest Hits" to
advance from fourth to second. Flashing gains of one-half share each are news sibling WWJ (5.0 – 5.5, seventh to fourth, 6+) and
Cumulus Media country WDRQ "Nash FM 93.1" (steady at #14, 6+). A +.4 by WWJ in August stopped six successive months without an increase (7.8 – 7.6 – 6.5
– 5.7 – 5.2 – 5.2 – 4.6, 6+) that led to a combined
-3.2. The all-news operation was the market leader (6+) in January and February. In addition to being the fourth successive monthly that "Nash FM" is up or flat yielding a full-share increase (2.5 – 2.8 – 2.8 – 3.0 – 3.5, 6+), 3.5 is the highest 6+-share for that frequency since December 2012 (also 3.5) when WDRQ was adult hits. Conversely, WDRQ rival – CBS Radio-owned WYCD – is without a gain for the fourth straight time for a cumulative -.9 (5.3 – 5.3 – 4.7 – 4.6 – 4.4, 6+) and "Detroit's Country 99.5" is unchanged at #9. Down in June, July, and August (5.7 – 5.5 – 5.4 – 4.9, 6+),
Greater Media's WCSX "94.7 Detroit's Classic Rock" (eighth to sixth) gains three-tenths to 5.2 (6+). After a one-month hiatus, CBS Radio's WXYT-FM "97.1 The Ticket" (7.8 – 7.7, -.1, 6+) returns to #1 (from the runner-up slot in August). "The Ticket" was on top in April, May, June, and July, before being dislodged in August by Greater Media urban-rhythmic oldies WMGC "The Bounce." It was a meteoric rise to #1 for "The Bounce," which transitioned from sports on July 1 and quickly posted back-to-back gains totaling a (combined) mammoth +7.3, vaulting from #23 (June, .7, 6+) to #15 (July, 3.1, 6+) to #1 (August, 8.0, 6+). Not only is it a short (one month) stay at #1, but "The Bounce" sputters by
-2.7 to 5.3 (6+) and settles in at #4. Checking in at #21, alternative CIMX "89-X" dials up a +.3 to 1.6 (6+) to curtail four consecutive sweeps without an increase (2.0 – 1.9 – 1.5 – 1.5 – 1.3, 6+). Owing to July's +.1 (6+), Cumulus Media's WJR halted three successive negative trends which had accounted for a -1.6 (6.7 – 6.2 – 5.3 – 5.1, 6+). The talk station added another six-tenths in August, but forfeits all of it plus three-tenths (5.1 – 5.2 – 5.8, 4.9,
-.9, 6+) and drifts from third to seventh. Back in
March, WJR notched a 6.7, the station's best ever 6+-stat in
PPM-methodology.
4)
Miami – Commencing in May,
Cox Media Group CHR WFLC trended 3.7 – 3.8 – 3.7 – 3.8 (6+). A whopping +1.3 to 5.1
(6+) though puts an end to that pattern and "Hits 97.3" leapfrogs from tenth to fifth. It is the first time WFLC reaches the five-share level since April 2015 (5.0, 6+). Format competitor –
iHeartMedia's WHYI "Y-100" – is off for the third
successive sweep (3.8 – 3.6 – 3.4 – 3.3 – 6+) and remains at #13. Within 5.4 – 5.9 range (6+) the past seven monthlies,
Univision Radio Spanish contemporary WAMR "Amor 107.5" climbs from fourth to third by breaking out a
+.9 to 6.5, its strongest 6+-share in nearly two years (6.5, 6+, October 2014). Unchanged at #11 (and with a 3.7, 6+, for the fourth straight time), iHeartMedia classic rocker WBGG "Big 105.9" makes it nine successive ratings periods without a decline (2.6 – 2.8 – 2.8 – 2.8 – 3.0 – 3.2 – 3.7 – 3.7 – 3.7 – 3.7, 6+). Albeit the net gain is just three-tenths,
CBS Radio rhythmic CHR WPOW "Power 96" is nonetheless without a decrease for the fifth straight time (3.2 – 3.2 – 3.4 – 3.5 – 3.5 – 3.5, 6+). After a (May and June) mini-slide resulting in a loss of eight-tenths (8.7 – 8.2 – 7.9, 6+),
Entercom adult contemporary WLYF notched a +.2 in July; added three-tenths in August; and is flat in September (7.9 – 8.1 – 8.4 – 8.4, 6+); "101.5 Lite FM" is #1 for the third straight time. In the runner-up slot for the same duration after finishing first in June, Cox Media Group urban AC WHQT "Hot 105" has its third successive dip (8.2 – 8.0 – 7.2 – 7.1, 6+). After hanging out a full-share increase in August,
Spanish Broadcasting System Spanish tropical WXDJ relinquishes all of it plus one-tenth and drops from sixth back to eighth (4.2 – 5.2 – 4.1,
-1.1, 6+); 5.2 in August was the first time "El Zol 106.7" crossed the five-share threshold (6+) since March 2014 (5.0, 6+). Co-owned Spanish contemporary WCMQ "Zeta 92.3" returns August's one-half share increase (4.8 – 5.3 – 4.8, 6+) and slips from fifth to seventh. Despite recording its fifth straight decline (2.7 – 2.5 – 2.3 – 2.2 – 2.0 – 1.9, 6+), CBS Radio's WKIS "New Country 99.9" climbs from #20 to a tie at #19.
Moody Bible Institute's WRMB (#29) is without an increase for the ninth consecutive ratings period (.8 – .7 – .7 – .6 -.5 -.4 -.4 .3 -.3 -.2, 6+).
5)
Seattle – Following
July's eight-tenths gain,
Entercom's country-formatted KKWF "100.7 The Wolf" relinquished three-
quarters of it in August but roars back with another +.8 in September (3.1 – 3.9 – 3.3 – 4.1, 6+) to zoom from #13 to #7. Meanwhile,
CBS Radio's similarly programmed KMPS (3.5, -.1, 6+) drops out of the top ten (#10 to #11); its +.3 in August halted three straight decreases
which yielded a net loss of one full-share (4.3 – 4.0 – 3.5 – 3.3, 6+). Off by six-tenths in
August,
Hubbard Broadcasting CHR KQMV "MOViN 92.5 – All The Hits" regains all of it plus one-tenth (6.3 – 5.7 – 6.4,
+.7, 6+) and ranks first for the ninth consecutive sweep. Also gaining seven-tenths are adult contemporary cluster-mate KRWM "Warm 106.9" (4.4 – 5.1, fifth to third, 6+) and
Bonneville's KIRO-AM "
ESPN 710″ (2.5 – 3.2, #20 to #16, 6+); "Warm" has its best 6+-showing since February's 5.4. Coming to an end is Entercom rhythmic hot AC KHTP's string of seven straight up or flat trends which netted a +1.6 (2.8 – 3.1 – 3.1 – 3.6 – 4.1 – 4.1 – 4.3 – 4.4, 6+), as "Hot 103.7" falters by seven-tenths to 3.7 to drift from a three-way tie at #5 to #9. Frozen on 3.1 (6+) in April and May and then on 3.5 (6+) in June and July, alternative sibling KNDD "107.7 The End" (#9 to #11) notched a +.6 in August only to surrender all of it in September (3.5 – 4.1 – 3.5, 6+). Regressing by one-half share each are
iHeartMedia classic hits-oldies KJR-FM "95.7 The Jet" (4.3, fourth to sixth, 6+) and Bonneville talker KTTH (2.4, #18 to #20, 6+). Tied for second in July, "95.7 The Jet" was off nine-tenths in August; 4.3 is its lowest 6+-share since May 2015 (3.9). The -.5 by KTTH (following a +.7 in August) halts three straight increases that yielded a cumulative +1.0 (1.9 – 2.0 – 2.2 – 2.9, 6+).
6)
Phoenix – The 1.2-share (6+) advantage
Univision Radio regional Mexican KHOT "Que Buena 105.9" enjoyed in August
over
Entravision's similarly programmed KLNZ "La Tricolor 103.5" is whittled down to three-tenths as KLNZ posts a +.8 (2.4 – 3.2, #18 to #14, 6+), while KHOT is off one-tenth to 3.5 (#11 to #13, 6+). "La Tricolor 103.5" had been in two-share range the past 12 sweeps. Improving by six-tenths each are
The Yucaipa Companies' hot AC KMVA "Hot" (#13 to #12, 6+) and rhythmic CHR cluster-mate KKFR "Power" (3.1, #17 to #15, 6+). As the result of six straight increases (1.9 – 2.2 – 2.3 – 2.5 – 2.7 – 3.1 – 3.7, 6+), "Hot" has nearly doubled its 6+-share, while "Power" ends four successive flat or down trends (3.9 – 3.1 – 3.1 – 2.9 – 2.5, 6+). Owing to a one-half share increase to 6.9 (6+),
iHeartMedia adult contemporary KESZ not only breaks the deadlock at #1, it halts three straight setbacks that yielded a cumulative -1.7 (8.1 – 7.5 – 6.9 – 6.4, 6+). It is the
24th successive ratings period at #1 for KESZ, which shared the top spot in August with
Hubbard Broadcasting classic rocker KSLX. Even though KSLX gains one-tenth (6.4 – 6.5, 6+), it slides to second, where it resided for five straight ratings periods before advancing to a first-place tie in August. Cracking the top 20 (#23 to #20) is KESZ's format rival, The Yucaipa Companies' KOAI "The Oasis," which is up or flat for the seventh successive time (.6 – .6 – .9 – 1.1 – 1.2 – 1.2 – 1.8 – 2.0, 6+) and has more than tripled its 6+-share since February. Locked on 2.8 (6+) in May and June and then on 3.1 (6+) in July and August, iHeartMedia talker KFYI sputters by
-1.3 to 1.8 (6+), plummeting from the top 20 (#13 to #22). Eroding by seven-tenths and one-half share, respectively, are
CBS Radio classic hits-oldies KOOL (5.4 – 4.7, third to fourth, 6+) and Entravision Spanish adult hits KVVA "Jose" (#26), which has its third consecutive decline (2.1 – 2.0 – 1.8 – 1.3, 6+). The market's (6+) country share shrinks by four-tenths as iHeartMedia-owned KNIX "102.5 #1 for New Country" is -.3 (4.3 – 4.0, seventh to eighth, 6+) and CBS Radio's KMLE "Country @ 107.9" is -.1 (4.0 – 3.9, eighth to ninth, 6+). Prior to
July's
-.9, KMLE had put together four straight increases for a cumulative +1.9 (3.1 – 3.6 – 4.0 – 4.9 – 5.0, 6+).
7)
Minneapolis – On the heels of a one-half share gain in August,
iHeartMedia's KFXN flaunts a +1.4 (4.8 – 5.3 – 6.7, 6+), vaulting
from tenth to fourth. It is the best 6+-stat for "FM 100.3 Sports Radio K-Fan" since January (also 6.7). In tandem with a one-half share increase by CHR cluster-mate KDWB "The Twin Cities' #1 Hit Music Station" (7.6 – 8.1, 6+) and a massive
-1.2 by
Hubbard Broadcasting hot AC KSTP-FM "KS-95" (8.9 – 7.7, 6+), the two stations swap places at #1 and #2, respectively. It is the best 6+-showing for KDWB since June 2015's 8.5. "KS-95"
had been #1 the past eight sweeps and has its weakest 6+-stat since "Holiday" 2015 (6.3). Up eight-tenths in
August, rival KTCZ "The Cities" doesn't capitalize in September as the iHeartMedia hot AC is off one-tenth (5.4 – 5.3, 6+) and segues from ninth to tenth. Prior to July, "The Cities" avoided a decrease for six straight sweeps and registered a combined +1.6 (3.9 – 4.8 – 4.9 – 5.0 – 5.0 – 5.5 – 5.5, 6+). The streak though was halted in July when it floundered by nine-tenths; 4.6 was its lowest 6+-share since "Holiday" 2015 (3.9). While unchanged at #3, co-owned classic hits-oldies KQQL "Kool 108" falters for the third straight ratings period for a combined -1.2 (8.0 – 7.5 – 7.2 – 6.8, 6+). Off a cumulative nine-tenths in the last three sweeps (7.1 – 7.1 – 6.9 – 6.2, 6+),
Cumulus Media-owned KQRS "Minnesota's Classic Rock" drops from fourth to fifth. Country has little September 2016 movement with iHeartMedia's KEEY "K-102" flat at 5.5 (seventh to eighth, 6+) and
CBS Radio's KMNB "BUZ'N @102.9" down two-tenths (4.3 – 4.1, flat at #13, 6+).
8)
San Diego – Owing to a +.6 to 4.7,
Entercom's KSON "New Country" has its finest 6+-showing since December (5.4) and
progresses from seventh to fifth. Registering gains of one-half share each are
iHeartMedia-owned KGB "San Diego's Classic Rock" (3.3 – 3.8, #14 to #11, 6+) and co-owned KLSD "San Diego Sports Radio" (.4 – .9, #23, 6+). KGB is in 3.0 – 3.8 range (6+) for the ninth successive
time. Off the past three survey periods (4.5 – 4.4 – 4.2 – 3.7, 6+),
CBS Radio adult contemporary-turned-hot AC KYXY picks up three-tenths to 4.0 (6+) and returns to the top ten (#11 to #10). Down or flat the past five sweeps (1.3 – 1.3 – 1.3 – .9 – .8 -.7, 6+),
UniRadio regional Mexican XHTY gains one-tenth to .8 (6+), yet slips from #24 to #25. Following six consecutive positive or steady trends producing a combined +1.7 (4.9 – 5.2 – 5.4 – 5.5 – 6.0 – 6.6 – 6.6, 6+), iHeartMedia hot AC KMYI dropped three-tenths in August and is off by one-half share in September. Nonetheless, "Star 94.1" is #1 for the fourth straight time. Prior to rising to the top spot in June, "Star" was last on top in July 2015. In addition to KMYI, classic hits-oldies XPRS-FM "Max 105.7 San Diego's Greatest Hits" (2.7 – 2.2, #18 to #19, 6+) and alternative XTRA "91-X" (2.0, #19 to #20, 6+) are also down by one-half share. Although only a combined +.5 in that stretch, "91-X" had been up or flat the past five sweeps (2.0 – 2.1 – 2.1 – 2.1 – 2.1 – 2.5, 6+). Without an increase for the sixth consecutive time (5.5 – 5.1 – 5.1 – 4.6 – 4.6 – 4.4 – 4.3, 6+), urban-rhythmic oldies XHRM "Magic 92.5 The Beat of San Diego" slides from fifth to sixth. For the 15th straight sweep, KOGO has a 6+-share between 3.1 – 3.8 (3.7 – 3.6, -.1, 6+); the iHeartMedia talker remains at #13.
9)
Tampa – Bouncing back after not having an increase the past four sweeps (3.5 – 3.5 – 2.8 – 2.6 – 2.4, 6+),
iHeartMedia-owned
WDAE "Tampa Bay's Sports Radio" trots out a +.9 to 3.3 to inch up from #17 to #15. A combined -1.0 owing to three successive downward trends (5.7 – 4.8 – 4.8 – 4.7, 6+),
Beasley Media Group's country WQYK answers with a +.7 to 5.4 (6+) to progress from eighth to fifth. The country format improves by another six-tenths as iHeartMedia's WFUS trends 4.0 – 4.6 (#11 to
#8, 6+). Adding one-half share to the four-tenths it registered in August and two-tenths in July (4.5 – 4.7 – 5.1 – 5.6, 6+), Beasley Media Group classic hits-oldies WRBQ "Q-105" inches up from fifth to fourth. Meanwhile,
Cox Media Group's similarly programmed WXGL "Classic Hits 107-3 The Eagle" is up four-tenths to 6.0 and is #3 for the third straight sweep. Adult contemporary sibling WDUV is #1 for the
47th successive ratings period, however, "Lite Favorites" regresses by six-tenths (9.9 – 9.3, 6+). In addition to WDUV,
University of South Florida-owned WUSF (5.1 – 4.5, fifth to ninth, 6+) and iHeartMedia CHR WFLZ "93-3 The Hit Music Channel" (4.8 – 4.2, #7 to #11, 6+) are also down by six-tenths. The -.6 represents 50% of the lofty +1.2 (6+) WUSF scored in August. For the third straight sweep, iHeartMedia urban contemporary WBTP is in the runner-up slot and by posting a +.4 to 6.2 (6+), "The Beat" closes five consecutive down or flat trends (5.8 – 6.3 – 6.2 – 6.1 – 5.9 – 5.8 – 5.8, 6+). In four consecutive down or flat trends, hot AC sibling WMTX "Mix 100.7" (#12 to #14) is a combined -1.2 (4.6 – 4.3 – 3.9 – 3.9 – 3.4, 6+).
10)
Denver – Although unchanged at #18, with a +.1 to 2.4 (6+),
Entravision regional Mexican KXPK applies the brakes to six
successive down or flat trends that produced a -1.0 (3.3 – 3.1 – 2.9 – 2.7 – 2.6 – 2.3 – 2.3, 6+). Public jazz outlet KUVO regains six-tenths of the seven-tenths it lost in August (1.3 – .6 – 1.2, 6+) to advance from #28 to #24. Down or flat the past four ratings periods for a combined -1.1 (2.5 – 2.2 – 1.9 – 1.9 – 1.4, 6+),
Max Broadcast Group rhythmic hot AC KJHM "Jammin' 101.5" is
+.3 to 1.7 and continues at #21. After notching a one-share increase in August,
iHeartMedia's KTCL "Modern Rock Channel 93-3" adds three-tenths and repeats at #1 (5.3 – 6.3 – 6.6, 6+). Prior to August, the last time "Channel 93-3" reached the six-share level (6+) was just over one year ago (6.0, 6+, August 2015). The station "Channel 93-3" replaced at #1 in August –
Entercom-owned classic rock KQMT "The Mountain" – is down for the third straight sweep but actually climbs from third to second. Following three straight downward trends (6.3 – 6.2 – 5.5 – 4.9, 6+), "The Mountain" was
+1.5 in February;
+.5 March; -.2 April; +.3 in May;
+.6 in June;
-.7 in July;
-.8 in August; and now -.1 in September (6.4 – 6.9 – 6.7 – 7.0 – 7.6 – 6.9 – 6.1 – 6.0, 6+). A -.8 (6.2 – 5.4, 6+) sends
KSE Radio Ventures classic hits-oldies KXKL "Kool 105" from second to fifth. Falling out of the top ten (#10 to #11), iHeartMedia triple A KBCO "World Class Rock" has its third straight decline (4.8 – 4.3 – 4.1 – 3.8, 6+) for a net loss of one full-share. The 6+ hot AC share in the "Mile High City" shrinks by three-tenths as KSE Radio Ventures' KIMN "Mix 100.3" is 4.0 – 3.9 (-.1, #11 to #10, 6+) and Entercom's KALC "Alice 105.9" is 3.5 – 3.3 (-.2, #12 to #15, 6+). Without an increase for the fifth consecutive sweep (3.6 – 2.9 – 2.9 – 2.8 – 2.8 – 2.8, 6+),
Educational Media Foundation contemporary Christian KLDV "K-LOVE" remains at #17. Something noteworthy that
hasn't happened in August or September is a move of seven-tenths by
Colorado Public Radio outlet KCFR, which has been
+.7 in January;
-.7 in February;
+.7 in March;
-.7 in April;
-.1 in May;
-.7 in June; and
+.7 in July.
11)
Baltimore – Over and above climbing from seventh to sixth,
Hearst Television's WIYY "98 Rock" displays an impressive +.9
to 5.3 (6+), thus curtailing four straight decreases that accounted for a net loss of -1.1 (5.5 – 5.2 – 5.1 – 4.6 – 4.4, 6+). Similarly, this time last month, WRBS-FM "95.1 Shine" picked up two-tenths to halt six successive downward trends (5.7 – 5.6 – 4.4 – 4.2 – 3.9 – 3.2 – 2.8, 6+) which eroded roughly 50% of its 6+-share (and
a combined -2.9). Now, the
Peter & John Radio Fellowship contemporary Christian outlet tacks on an additional six-tenths (2.8 – 3.0 – 3.6, 6+) and enters the top ten (#13 to #10). Unchanged at the top – in both AQH and ranker – are
Radio One urban AC and urban contemporary cluster-mates WWIN "Magic 95.9" (8.5, 6+) and WERQ "92-Q" (8.4, 6+). Prior to August's -.8, "92-Q" was up or flat the previous five times for a cumulative
+2.3 (6.9 – 7.3 – 8.3 – 8.3 – 8.4 – 9.2, 6+), and it had been in first-place in April and May. The last time "92-Q" reached the nine-share level was June 2013 (9.0). A -1.2 in July caused "Magic 95.9" to segue from the top spot, and to take over the runner-up slot, vacated by "92-Q." Prior to July's -1.2, "Magic 95.9" put together four straight increases for a combined
+3.7 (6.1 – 6.5 – 7.1 – 8.2 – 9.8, 6+). Other than Radio One's WOLB at #23 (.3 – .2, -.1, 6+), the market's four other talkers are lumped together and are a combined -1.8, with each down August 2016 – September 2016. Specifically, WCBM (3.8 – 3.2, -.6, 6+) is #12; Hearst Television's WBAL (3.6 – 3.1, -.5, 6+) is #13; public WYPR (2.5 – 2.1, -.4, 6+) is #14; and
American University's WAMU (1.6 – 1.3, -.3, 6+) is #15. Although steady at #3,
CBS Radio adult contemporary WLIF "Today's 101.9" (7.8, -.4, 6+) has its string of successive increases – which netted a +1.1- end at three (7.1 – 7.4 – 7.8 – 8.2, 6+). This is the fourth straight monthly without an increase for
iHeartMedia's WPOC (7.7 – 7.1 – 6.8 – 6.8 – 6.8, 6+); "Baltimore's #1 for New Country" remains at #4.
12)
St. Louis – Boasting the largest (6+) August 2016 – September 2016 increase of any station in the 24
PPM-markets whose data
has been released thus far this week,
Radio One urban contemporary WHHL "Hot 104.1" vaults all the way from #12 to #3 (4.9 – 6.5,
+1.6, 6+). The last time "Hot" crossed the six-share threshold (6+) was December 2014 (6.4). While this constitutes the fifth consecutive ratings period that
Hubbard Broadcasting's WIL-FM is
without a decrease (4.4 – 4.4 – 4.9 – 5.2 – 5.8 – 5.9, 6+), the country outlet backslides from fifth to sixth. Down or flat for the third consecutive sweep (9.2 – 8.3 – 8.3 – 8.1, 6+),
Emmis rocker KSHE is nonetheless #1 for the ninth straight time. When KSHE lost one-half share in May, it ended a streak of nine successive ratings periods in which it hadn't had a decrease for a combined +2.4 (6.2 – 6.2 – 6.7 – 6.9 – 7.1 – 7.7 – 7.9 – 8.5 – 8.5 – 8.6, 6+). Within 5.0 – 5.9 range (6+) seven of the last eight ratings periods,
CBS Radio adult contemporary KEZK (#10 to #12) regresses by seven-tenths to 4.3, its lowest 6+-share since August 2015 (also 4.3). Following five consecutive gains for a net +1.1 (3.8 – 3.9 – 4.0 – 4.4 – 4.6 – 4.9, 6+),
University of Missouri-owned KWMU (like KEZK) is off by seven-tenths (4.2, #12 to #13, 6+). Meanwhile, a loss of one-half share (to 4.8, #7 to #11, 6+) ends the streak of successive gains by
Gateway Creative Broadcasting contemporary Christian KLJY at three (3.9 – 4.3 – 4.6 – 5.3, 6+). In August, "99.1 JOY-FM" – which was a combined +1.4 since May (6+) – reached the five-share level (6+) for the first time since last November's 5.0.
