Cumulus Flips A Michigan Station To NASH Icon

WMIM in Monroe, Michigan becomes 98.3 Nash Icon on Friday. NASH Icon is a new format playing the best country hits from country artists from 1980 through today. The station will feature artists from Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, and the Dixie Chicks, to Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, and Kenny Chesney. 98.3 Nash Icon will feature local on-air personalities including Chris King and Mark Benson and will be operated by current WMIM staff, with no personnel changes anticipated.

Andy Stuart, regional vice president for Cumulus said: ?We spent a great deal of time analyzing what is the best format for Monroe, and it became quite clear that Nash Icon is ideally suited for the market. I really appreciate the time and effort that John Dickey, Mike McVay, Bob Raleigh, and Charlie Cook have all provided and appreciate having this format available in the Cumulus family to bring to the Monroe community.?

Crenshaw Joins Cumulus in Michigan

John Crenshaw becomes Regional PD/Michigan and PD of WTNR in Grand Rapids. He'll be responsible for 32 Michigan properties that are outside of Detroit. He will also serve as Operations Manager for the companies Grand Rapids cluster and as PD for WTNR/Grand Rapids. Crenshaw said "When Mike McVay introduced me to Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey at the most recent Country Radio Seminar, he invited me to join their company.  I couldn't be happier to lead the Cumulus team in Grand Rapids and across Michigan."

Judge Rules Pandora Did Not Violate Michigan Privacy Act

Ruling Goes Pandora's Way

A federal judge in OAKLAND, CA has handed PANDORA a legal victory. U.S. District Court Judge SAUNDRA BROWN ARMSTRONG has dismissed a lawsuit that claimed PANDORA violated a Michigan privacy law by sharing information about FACEBOOK users' music choices. In the ruling, BROWN ARMSTRONG found that a 20 year old MICHIGAN's law only applies if companies lend, rent or sell music, and in PANDORA's case, that the law doesn't apply to companies that stream music online.

The lawsuit came out of FACEBOOK's "instant personalization" program that PANDORA participated in during 2010,

MEDIAPOST.COM notes, "MICHIGAN resident PETER DEACON, was irked enough to file suit. He argued that PANDORA's integration with FACEBOOK violated MICHIGAN's Video Rental Privacy Act. That law prohibits companies that rent, lend or sell music (as well as books and videos) from disclosing customers' identities without their consent. MICHIGAN lawmakers enacted the law more than 20 years ago, at around the same time that Congress passed the federal Video Privacy Protection Act -- which prohibits video providers from disclosing information about consumers' movie-viewing history without their written permission."

FOX Sports Radio Adds Michigan Affiliate.

FOX Sports Radio and WCCW-AM announced today the launch of FOX Sports Radio 1310 in Traverse City, Mich.  Beginning August 30, the station will air FOX Sports Radio?s 24/7 line-up including FOX Sports Daybreak, The Dan Patrick Show, The Jim Rome Show, Loose Cannons, Petros & Money, FOX Sports Tonight and more.

Michigan Football Extends Deal With CBS Detroit

Michigan's athletic department has extended its agreement with CBS Radio in Detroit for five years. The deal will put all U-M football and men?s basketball games on WWJ-AM (950). Football games no longer will be on WOMC-FM (104.3).  There are 35 football affiliates in the Michigan football network. Michigan Athletic Director Dave Brandon  ?The move to WWJ Radio for football and men?s basketball provides a consistent signal for our two largest radio properties. Staying with the CBS radio family is a win-win for our fans. We are looking to add additional radio affiliates to cover the state of Michigan and the Midwest.?

The deal includes a 2 1/2-hour pregame football show, plus an hourlong postgame show. The pregame and postgame shows will be 30 minutes apiece for basketball games. As part of the deal, 15 ice hockey games and six women?s basketball games will be broadcast on WXYT-AM (1270). Football coach Brady Hoke?s weekly radio show will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 31 and continue on Wednesdays throughout the season. Basketball coach John Beilein?s show will take place on Mondays.
