New Faces In Des Moines At Cumulus Cluster

Cumulus brings three new people to Iowa. Sean Elliott (pictured) is the new operations manager and PD at KGGO. Jonathan Monk will program Great Country 92.5 KJJY and take afternoons. Dianna Kelly joins 98.3 The Torch as news director. Elliott was formerly PD at WLZR-FM in Milwaukee and PD at KAZR-FM in Des Moines. Monk was operations manager for Cookeville Communications? four-station cluster in Cookeville, TN. Kelly has worked on the air in Kansas City, Atlanta, Vegas, Fresno, Jacksonville, Grand Rapids, and suburban Nashville.

Bob O'Dell New PD At KGGO Des Moines

O?Dell replaces John Kelly who moves to Cumulus-owned (Classic Hits) WOGT/Chattanooga as PD. O'Dell said, "Cumulus has afforded me the chance to work with an amazingly talented group of professionals from Aaron Roberts and Greg Frey to Mike McVay. Cumulus Des Moines has an outstanding line-up of leading brands that garner huge audiences each and every day. I look forward to continuing the growth of these great stations."
O?Dell has worked at Cumulus Radio in various programming capacities in both Savannah and Topeka.

Cumulus Swaps Morning Shows in Des Moines

The KGGO-FM team of Lou and Heather (Lou Sipolt and Heather Burnside) are moving across the hallway to WOW-FM. Trading places with Lou and Heather on KGGO-FM will be Bob & Tom. Cumulus Media?s SVP/Programming, Mike McVay, said ?We?re excited to be able to bring 20+ years of morning success to our News/Talk station and can completely eliminate the music on their show in favor of more of why Des Moines area listeners want to listen to Lou and Heather. Bob & Tom?s show is better suited for the Classic Rock that is played on KGGO-FM and will better position both stations for the future.?

?The Des Moines Morning News with Lou and Heather? will make its debut on 98.3 WOW FM on Monday, January 2 from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. weekdays.  Lou and Heather?s last show on KGGO-FM takes place on Friday, December 30th and will feature special guests and a sharing of KGGO memories.  KGGO-FM will continue to air Classic Rock music and KWQW/98.3 WOW-FM remains the Capitol cities only FM News/Talk radio station.

Des Moines Broadcaster Mike Newell Dies

Newell was 66 and suffered a heart attack the day after Thanksgiving. Newel was very well known in the Des Moines broadcasting world. In addition to announcing Iowa Oaks games, Newell did play-by-play for University of Iowa women?s basketball games and for Drake University?s men?s basketball. He had also hosted sports call-in shows, including WHO radio?s ?Sound Off? show that followed U of I football games during the 1990s. Newell had a number of health problems over the years, including a mild heart attack at the age of 49.
