(AUDIO) Goodman Snags NextMedia

10-1-13

It was no secret Dean Goodman was gunning for the 33 stations NextMedia was trying to sell after Townsquare walked away. Goodman's company, Digity LLC, which is an affiliate of Palm Beach Broadcasting, is expected to close on the purchase in the first quarter of 2014. Of course, with the government in flux, those dates are all moving targets for now. The financial terms were not announced, however both Goodman and NextMedia CEO Jim Donahoe told Radio Ink on Thursday the price was fair. The deal also includes two stations in Chicago, which are currently held by The Mile High Station Trust. We spoke to Goodman at length yesterday about the deal, why he wanted the NextMedia stations, his plans for growth, and his thoughts on the radio industry in general.

Why Did NextMedia Exit? It Was Time.

10-10-13

NextMedia President/CEO Jim Donahoe told Radio Ink, "We're getting out because we had run the cycle, in terms of their investment timeline, of the private equity group." Since 2010, NextMedia has been majority-owned by funds of Strategic Value Partners and Angelo, Gordon & Co. NextMedia sold its outdoor division about a year ago to Lamar for $145 million and has been actively marketing the radio group since then.

Donahoe added, ?Dean Goodman is a veteran broadcaster committed to the long-term future of radio and we are pleased that he will build upon our strategy to provide live and local programing to our respective communities. We thank and congratulate the market employees who have remained committed to our vision and helped grow and position our stations.?

NextMedia Texas Brightening Up The Holidays

12-16-2011

NextMedia's KLAK-FM is teaming up with the The McKinney Police Association to disperse of more than 500 toys to several local charities in the community, just in time for Christmas. The association handed off 400 toys to KLAK radio for its Angels of Care charity drive. KLAK promotions director Laura Villa said its share of toys will be given to families whose children are suffering from disabilities and are receiving care through Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health. The toys were delivered during the radio station's "Calling All Angels" marathon, which encouraged listener donations and provided information about the second annual charity drive, which runs through December 21st.

"It's an amazing feeling" Villa added. "We're grateful to everyone who has donated. As a radio station, we have a voice for these families and our community has always helped us whenever we needed it. These toys are great because now more people can focus on donating the things we need like coats, socks and underwear and things like that."

The toys were collected over the past two weekends at a softball tournament. One of the requirements for being able to play in the softball tournament is to bring at least one toy donation. One team in particular brought a trailer full of toys and bicycles and proved that a sporting event can be an effective way to get everyone involved, Butz said.
