Chaz & AJ Hold Benefit For Injured Police Officer

Chaz & AJ, who host mornings on Connoisseur's Rock WPLR/New Haven and Classic Rock WFOX, are holding a benefit for Brett Morgan, a New Britain police officer who was run over and dragged by a stolen car last month. The "Stand Up for Brett" comedy benefit is set for Friday, February 21 at Trinity on Main in New Britain.

Morgan was seriously injured in the January 19 incident and, after several surgeries, has been released from the hospital to continue his therapy and rehabilitation.

The comedians set to perform Friday include Dave Reilly (seen on MTV and Fox), and Gary Petinella, with Joey Mitchell hosting. Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara will also make an appearance. Tickets are $15 and are available online at http://www.wplr.com/ and http://www.959thefox.com/ until 5 p.m. Thursday, and after that can be purchased at the door. All proceeds will go to the Brett Morgan Benefit Fund to help Morgan and his family with medical expenses.

Police Union Questions Quick DWI Dismissal of Emmis Austin Talker

According to thestatesman.com Sgt. Wayne Vincent questions whether certain suspects are getting preferential treatment. Vincent said he's troubled by the dismissal of a DWI charge against Emmis' popular KLBJ-AM host Jeff Ward. After Ward called the Police Chief from jail, who is a frequent guest on Ward's show, the video of the arrest was reviewed and charges were dropped. Vincent told the paper, "It's extremely concerning when charges of DWI get dismissed in a day or so. The majority of police officers that work here think it just smells bad."

Police Chief Art Acevedo

told the paper  "Vincent's charges are "not even close" and that the department followed its policy of reviewing high-profile arrests before the county attorney decided not to pursue the case." Ward was arrested June 9 after emceeing an event downtown, where he said he had two beers in four hours and was not intoxicated. Officers say he failed a field sobriety test. Ward's charges were dropped four days later when the County Attorney said there was not enough evidence. Vincent says, "The process did not play out the way it was supposed to." Acevedo disagreed telling the paper that "officers frequently review the arrest videos for elected officials, celebrities, athletes, police officers and other high-profile cases."
