Radical.FM Secures Second Round of Funding

The company didn't say how much money it raised but it will be enough to upgrade the Radiocal.FM platform technology. The second round of financing will be used to complete development of a new HTML5 player for its streaming music services Radical.FM and Radical Indie, expected to launch in early 2012. Mobile apps and the DeeJay? functionality will also be finished.

Radical.FM Helping Independent Musicians

Radical.FM (radical.fm) has opened its on-demand streaming music service Radial Indie to independent musicians and bands so they can upload their music and related materials into the Radical Indie player in preparation for its introduction. When launched Radical Indie will be a free Internet radio service for musicians, their fans, and anyone who enjoys fresh music from unsigned artists, without limitations. The player will also include the ability to RadCast? music streams in real time to any number of listeners. RadCast makes every musician the owner of a broadcast radio station, complete with independent content. Musicians will be able to have their fans listen to their music stream in real time.

In addition, DeeJay? will allow musicians to host their own programs and speak directly to all who are listening to their RadCasts. The DeeJay function allows hosts to speak live to their audience, where they can discuss not only their music, but also conduct interviews and promote tours. Music in Radical Indie will be accessible anywhere in the world through any web browser. Musicians, bands, and their official representatives can sign up and upload their music today at RadicalIndie.com.

Radical.FM Launches Beta. Our Review...Still Needs Work.

While our initial test didn't go so well, it's probably important to remember this is still in Beta. Radical.FM says it has pretty much rolled up all the popular music services into one service. It's a tall order when you say you've packaged Pandora, Slacker, Rhapsdy and Spotify into one service. We went on the service last night to test it out and noticed two things right off the bat that switched us right back to Slacker.

Somehow, after deleting a song, it continued to play over the next song. So, two songs were playing at the same time and we couldn't figure out why or how to make it stop. And, the content matching was pretty radical. Jimmy Buffet matched up Foreigner, Al Martino and Andy Williams. So far, Pandora is the best at matching the Jimmy Buffet content.  

Radical.FM says a feature called RadCast will permit personal music streams to be shared in real-time, while soon-to-be-released DeeJay allows a user to speak to all who are listening to their RadCasts. Radical.FM is initially offering free personal radio services, with full Play-On-Demand functionality for premium subscribers coming at a later date. I find it interesting that your article is only focusing on minor Beta development issues.I found the site to be tremendous. It's a remarkable concept. I suspect when people start to get what the true horsepower of the site is Radical will start to separate themselves from the pack.I haven't seen anything else remotely like it.
