Arbitron Went Overboard With Renda

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that U.S. District Court Judge Marcia Howard in Florida has called the Aribitron filing against Renda Broadcasting in Jacksonville an "impermissible shotgun pleading." Arbitron has until July 26th to file an amendment to the lawsuit or the suit may be dismissed.

Arbitron claims Renda GM Bill Reese has been getting Arbitron numbers from a local client and passing them out to his staff. The judge says the first filing contains "irrelevant factual allegations and legal conclusions," according to the paper. Renda has not been an Arbitron subscriber since 2010.

Tyler Closes On Renda Cluster In OK

Kalil & Company informs Radio Ink that the Tyler Broadcasting deal to purchase Tony Renda's cluster of three FMs and one AM in Oklahoma City has closed. Renda gives up KMGL-FM, KRXO-FM, KOMA-FM, and KOKC-AM. Also part of the deal was a 24.5 percent interest in Sooner Sports Properties, a multimedia rights holder of University of Oklahoma Athletics. Tyler Broadcasting also owns three stations in Oklahoma City including 93.3 KJKE-FM, KTUZ-FM, and KEBC-AM. This deal was announced back in July and the price was $12 million.

Journal Acquires Two Stations in Tulsa From Renda

Journal Broadcast Group, says it's reached an agreement to purchase KHTT-FM and 92.9 BOB FM in Tulsa, OK, from Renda Broadcasting Corporation. The transaction is subject to FCC approval. Journal currently owns three stations in Tulsa including 98.5 KVOO FM (Country Variety), 99.5 KXBL FM (Country Classic), and 1170 KFAQ FM (Talk Radio).

Journal CEO Steven Smith said, "We have high regard for Renda Broadcasting and their talented team and are very pleased to add these exceptional radio stations to our Tulsa cluster. The combination of these high quality stations will create a strong group that will continue to serve our listeners, customers and the entire Tulsa community. This transaction is consistent with our strategic goal of creating additional scale in existing Journal Broadcast markets."

Renda CEO Tony Renda said "We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Journal for our two Tulsa stations. This transaction will benefit both parties. Pittsburgh-based RBC is a privately held radio broadcasting company. RBC and its affiliated companies own and operate 25 radio stations in 8 markets.
