Blackberry Files Lawsuit Against Seacrest

A product financially backed by radio star Ryan Seacrest is about to debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Seacrest and entrepreneur Laurence Hallier created a product called Typo, a slip-on keyboard iPhone accessory that offers BlackBerry like functionality. The product is now being targeted by Blackberry in a lawsuit.  Blackberry attorney Steve Zipperstein said, ?This is a blatant infringement against BlackBerry?s iconic keyboard, and we will vigorously protect our intellectual property against any company that attempts to copy our unique design.?

Seacrest Re-Ups With New Year's Rockin' Eve

Premiere-syndicated personality and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest has signed a deal to continue to host and produce Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest for an unspecified multi-year term. Seacrest began co-hosting the show with Clark in 2005 and became the sole host after Clark died last year.

Seacrest and Allen Shapiro executive-produce the show, which is presented by Dick Clark Productions. Seacrest said, "I think I will forever be both sentimental and grateful about my experiences with Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. Allen and the DCP team, as well as everyone at ABC, are my valued partners in carrying Dick's vision forward. I'm humbled by their continued faith, and excited to work together to create new traditions and fun moments on the show that only live television can deliver."

The Seacrest Empire Expands

One of Clear Channel's biggest national on-air voices has taken a majority stake in Civic Entertainment Group through his investment arm, Seacrest Global Group. Civic Entertainment Group is a marketing-services agency. Included on the Civic roster, HBO, ESPN, A&E Networks and CNN. The company provides marketing services from digital campaigns to event production.

Reuters: Seacrest Wants Dick Clark's Company

Reuters is reporting that the 37 year old "is considering a bid" to buy Dick Clark Productions. When Clark passed Seacrest said Dick Clark was a mentor to him. You may remembers that in January, Bain Capital and Thomas H. Lee Partners invested $300 million in Seacrest to help him grow his empire. Clear Channel also has a piece of the Secrest action, with a minority stake in his company. Here's the Reuters LINK to the story

Stern, Rush, Beck, Seacrest Combine for $303 Million

Howard Stern made $95 million between May 1 2011 and May 1, 2012, according to the latest listing of the World's Most Powerful Celebrities in Forbes magazine. Forbes calculated the gross income of the celebrities pretax and before management, agent, and attorney fees were deducted. Rush Limbaugh is listed making $69 million. Glenn Beck took in $80 Million and Ryan Seacrest a respectable $59 Million. And, don't forget the 2012 Radio Ink listing of the 40 Most Powerful People in Radio will be released July 16. Duran and Seacrest To Air In Quad Cities

Clear Channel says the two syndicated stars are part of a new station 101.3 KISS FM in the Quad Cities. The Elvis Duran and the Morning Show and On Air with Ryan Seacrest will join local on-air host, Todd Alan. Clear Channel Market Manager Jeff Ashcraft said, ?We strive to bring the best programming to our local listeners and we are thrilled to bring the new 101.3 KISS FM to the Quad Cities. With on-air talent like Ryan Seacrest and locally Todd Alan, we think the area is ready for this kind of KISS.?

Elvis Duran and the Morning Show broadcasts from New York's Z100. It will air Monday through Saturday on the station. On Air with Ryan Seacrest broadcasts from Hollywood. The show  will broadcast on 101.3 KISS FM weekdays during mid-days. 

Todd Alan, the Quad Cities? own local on-air talent, will host the afternoon drive time Monday through Saturday. Alan is a Quad Cities radio veteran and has been hosting the afternoon drive on sister station, Mix 96, for more than three years.  He is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a degree in radio, television and film.

Here is the new station lineup:

On Air with Ryan Seacrest from mid-days Monday through Friday
Todd Alan afternoon drive Monday through Saturday
Billy the Kid evenings Monday through Friday

Seacrest Interviews Ballmer at Opening of CES

Ryan Seacrest hosted the final Microsoft CES keynote address last night and the syndicated radio star joked he  could be the company's mascot. Microsoft said this would be the last CES where it delivers a keynote address and stage a massive booth. In announcing the decision, the company said its ?product news milestones generally don?t align with the show?s January timing.?

During a discussion of Windows PCs, Seacrest noted that Microsoft faces new competition from the iPad and Android tablets. ?Nothing better than good competition,? Ballmer says. ?It?s a great thing, and I?m glad we?ve got Windows.?

Ballmer also said Microsoft has now sold 66 million Xbox 360s, with more than nearly 40 million Xbox Live users, and 18 million Kinect sensors sold. He also said Xbox Live will be adding content from Fox broadcast shows, Fox News and other News Corp properties in 2012. That will add to a large library of live and recorded television launched by Xbox Live in the U.S. this fall.
