What Happened to Joe Walsh in Chicago?

6-19-14

The talk show host on Salem's 560-AM The Answer was apparently pulled off the air during a commercial break. Mail Online reports the former U.S. Congressman from Illinois says he was kicked off his own show for trying to have a frank and honest discussion about race in America. Walsh took to Twitter as soon as he was pulled off the air. 'Found out if I said Redskins or Cracker or Redneck Bible Thumper, I could stay on. But if I said N***** or S***k, they cut me off,' he wrote. He'll be off the air today and has a 5PM meeting with his producers. Walsh's show was recently expanded to three hours on the station because of its popularity.

It's Official. Joe Walsh Gets A Radio Show.

3-14-13

After too may leaks to count, Salem finally made it official Thursday, announcing that former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh will join the line-up of AM 560 The Answer in Chicago. Beginning March 25, Walsh will take over weekdays 7-9 p.m. Walsh served only two years in Congress, as part of the Tea Party movement, elected in 2010 to represent Illinois' eighth district.

Walsh said, "People kept asking me what my next step was going to be after I left office in January. We're at a crucial point in this country, and I'm excited to take the debate right to listeners throughout Chicagoland via the airwaves. The radio program will be a great platform to help grow a freedom movement which is already gaining momentum right here in Illinois. I intend to do with this program what I did as a U.S. Congressman -- speak plainly, speak directly, not worry about political correctness, and engage in respectful, engaging debate with all viewpoints. This is just too important of a time for all of us to do anything less."

Emmis To Keep Pat Walsh Around

Emmis and Walsh sign a new deal that will keep the Executive VP/CFO/COO with the company through September of 2013. For his three titles and hefty responsibilities Walsh will receive $600,000 as a base salary. Bonuses and incentives along the way could, at least, double that number. Walsh also has some stock option opportunities with Emmis.

The Emmis compensation committee also approved the payment of bonuses to Walsh, CEO Jeff Smulyan and Rick Cummings in the amounts equal to 125%, 45% and 12%, respectively, of their current base salaries for the Merlin Media transaction. In the most recent Emmis 10K Smulyan's base salary was listed at $613,000, Walsh earned a base of $387,000 and Cummings base was $330,000
