The defamation case against Bubba The Love Sponge filed by former cross-town rival Todd "MJ" Schnitt is underway in Tampa. Lawyers for Schnitt played clips of Bubba calling Schnitt's wife Michelle a "whore." Schnitt also claims his kids were living in fear due to the antics of Bubba which included egging the Schnitt home and throwing ice at the Schnitt's car.
Bubba's lawyers responded by saying, "reasonable listeners would not take comments from Bubba's cast seriously, seeing them only as entertainment instead of reputation-damaging defamation." Bubba also accused Schnitt of rigging a national radio contest. The trial is expected to last about three weeks. More extensive coverage of the dark side of radio can be found here.
