Hurt Hanson's AccuRadio Raises $2.5 Million in Funding

Online radio property AccuRadio has raised a ?Series A? round of $2.5 million from L.A.-based NantWorks LLC, headed by entrepreneur Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong.  Hanson said, "We're extremely excited to work with Patrick, who is one of world's brightest and most forward-thinking entrepreneurs. We're delighted to finally be able to bring PR and marketing support to our product. AccuRadio has industry-leading measures of customer satisfaction, including Average Time Spent Listening in Webcast Metrics and its iOS and Android app user ratings, and with the help of this funding, we believe we can really take the brand to the next level." AccuRadio is run by Hanson,  COO John Gehron and EVP/Programming Paul Maloney.

Michael Damsky Joins Hanson's AccuRadio

The 32-year radio vet will stay in Chicago where he's spent 24 years working for WXRT. Most recently Damsky was running WLS in Chicago for Cumulus and Citadel before that. At WXRT, Damksy started out as an AE and advanced to the GM chair. He moves over to the Internet side after a few months off to become the VP of Sales at Kurt Hanson's shop.

Damsky sai, "I am excited to be joining AccuRadio- a pioneering provider of personalizable streaming internet radio. This is a great opportunity to work with Kurt Hanson, whom I consider a visionary in the field, and John Gehron, one of radio?s most admired executives. I couldn?t pass-up the chance to help them grow AccuRadio into a leadership position in what is clearly the most rapidly expanding sector of music listening. My responsibilities here will utilize the experience I have acquired over the last 32 years combined with the knowledge I am already gaining of a medium still in its infancy.

AccuRadio Launches 7 Tony Awards Channels

AccuRadio launches seven custom channels of Tony Awards-themed music in cooperation with The Broadway League in support of Sunday night?s 2012 ?Tony Awards? telecast on CBS-TV. AccuRadio founder and CEO Kurt Hanson says, ?With tens of millions of consumers now listening to personalizable Internet radio every month, we?re finding real interest in ?niche? genres like Broadway, mainstream jazz, classical music, and world music.? 

AccuRadio?s ?Tony Awards Nominees 2012? channel features the Broadway musicals that have been nominated for awards this year, plus the ?Best Musical? winners of the past ten years, plus the music of Bernadette Peters and Hugh Jackman, both of whom are scheduled to receive career awards on Sunday night. 

The other six Tony-themed AccuRadio channels include ?Best Musicals? winners from 1949 to 1975, from 1976 to present, and from the entire era, ?Best Scores? winners, nominees from recent years, and a ?Signature Songs? channel featuring various Broadway stars? best-known songs.
