Pirate Equipment Seized Near Boston

The equipment was seized by the feds on May 21st in the town of Roslindale, according to wickedlocal.com. There was no name of the pirate listed, who was said to be using the frequency 88.5 MHz without a license, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney in Boston Carmen Ortiz. Michele Ellison, chief of the FCC?s Enforcement Bureau, said, ?We will continue to use all available enforcement tools, including equipment seizures, to protect the airwaves and are grateful for the assistance and fine work of the U.S. Attorney?s Office in Boston.?

Feds Seize Pirate Equipment Near Boston

The US Marshals Service seized the equipment near Brockton after they say the Haitian format heard on 91.7-FM was interfering with with air traffic communications in the Boston area. The equipment was moved three times after a written warning was given. A judge signed a warrant to seize the equipment in January. Read more here at the Boston Globe

NC Station Hit With $8K EAS Equipment Fine.

In this Notice of Apparent Liability CRS Radio Holding owner of WFBX-AM and WFAY in Spring Lake North Carolina violates commission rules by failing to ensure that emergency alert system equipment was operational.  In 2008, in response to a complaint that the station had been without operational EAS equipment for more than a year, the FCC sent an inspector to WFBX?s main studio in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  The agent observed that Station WFBX did not have any EAS equipment located in the room which contained the station?s control equipment. 

In addition, the commission says EAS equipment for Station WFAY was not operational, because it was turned off and was not connected to an antenna.  None of the staff at Station WFBX could produce any EAS logs or other evidence that any weekly or monthly EAS tests had been sent or received.  Staff members for Station WFAY and Station WFBX stated that both stations had been without EAS equipment since the stations relocated to the current main studio.
