Galaxy Creates Sports Marketing Division

10-15-13

Galaxy Communications is launching a new sports marketing division. President and CEO Ed Levine (pictured) says the new group will focus on the sports franchises that Galaxy is a flagship for or has an affiliate relationship with, in Syracuse and Utica. Those teams are Syracuse University football, basketball, and lacrosse, as well as the Utica Comets, Syracuse Crunch, Utica College, the Buffalo Bills, and the New York Giants.

To oversee this new initiative, Galaxy Sports Marketing has hired Ken Elander as General Manager. Elander has held high-ranking positions at Time Warner Cable, Driver?s Village, and WTVH. Galaxy owns 14 radio stations in the Syracuse and Utica markets, and also has a division called Galaxy Events.

Harvey Kojan Joins Galaxy Communications

6-17-13

Kojan will join Galaxy as Brand Manager for TK99 (WTKW/WTKV) in Syracuse on Wednesday, July 10. Kojan has been on the air in Albany, Buffalo, and Houston. He was the AOR Editor of Radio and Records for six years and has spent the past 20 years programming Classic Rock radio, mainly at the legendary WNOR in Norfolk and also in Baltimore for four years.

Galaxy President/CEO Ed Levine said, ?Harvey brings a wealth of experience to the position. He?s a rare combination of science and emotion as he?s extremely adept at radio research but still plays out in a band occasionally! His family has ties to the area as his wife is from Liverpool. And he?s a huge sports fan! This is a tremendous move for TK that will continue to keep us out in front of the market for many years to come!?

Kojan said, "I've known and admired Ed for nearly 30 years and it's a privilege to finally work with him. What he's done putting Galaxy together is beyond impressive. He still believes in doing radio the right way. Marketing, promotion, research, community service, and a laser-focused emphasis on being local -- concepts that have become foreign to so many other broadcasters -- are still alive and well at Galaxy. I'm one very lucky guy!"
