Steve Harvey To Join NAB Broadcasting Hall Of Fame

Steve Harvey will be inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame at the NAB Show Radio Luncheon, set for April 8 in Las Vegas and sponsored by ASCAP. Harvey, who began his career in the '80s as a standup comedian, hosts the Premiere-syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show, as well as TV's Family Feud and the Steve Harvey talk show. He's also a best-selling author whose books include Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man and was the longtime host of Showtime at the Apollo. Harvey has been an actor, host, writer, and producer for a number of TV and film projects.

"Steve Harvey entertains people of all ages with his unique and humorous perspective on life," NAB EVP/Radio John David said. "Mr. Harvey's dedication and talent have earned him great success, and we are thrilled to induct him into NAB's Broadcasting Hall of Fame."

The Steve Harvey Morning Show debuted in 2000 and has been syndicated by Premiere since 2005; it's now heard on more than 70 stations and on iHeartRadio. With his induction into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame, Harvey will join such broadcasting legends as Dave Ramsey, Gerry House, Vin Scully, Rick Dees, and Ron Chapman.

He sure did a lousy & inappropriate job on his show today, trying to be so funny toward the last when that auto mech. lady was on.
People were trying to LEARN something!
Could tell by audience's expression that they were irritated.
Timing was very wrong, in our estimation.

Harvey Kojan Joins Galaxy Communications

Kojan will join Galaxy as Brand Manager for TK99 (WTKW/WTKV) in Syracuse on Wednesday, July 10. Kojan has been on the air in Albany, Buffalo, and Houston. He was the AOR Editor of Radio and Records for six years and has spent the past 20 years programming Classic Rock radio, mainly at the legendary WNOR in Norfolk and also in Baltimore for four years.

Galaxy President/CEO Ed Levine said, ?Harvey brings a wealth of experience to the position. He?s a rare combination of science and emotion as he?s extremely adept at radio research but still plays out in a band occasionally! His family has ties to the area as his wife is from Liverpool. And he?s a huge sports fan! This is a tremendous move for TK that will continue to keep us out in front of the market for many years to come!?

Harvey To Host 5th Annual Mentoring Camp

Syndicated radio host Steve Harvey will host his 5th annual mentoring program for young men in Dallas June 11-16. Harvey mentors 100 young men who are without fathers on his country ranch with special guests, including frank sessions on the principles of manhood, leadership, sports, health and wellness activities, dream building and more.

Harvey Creates "Sense of Comfort" in Chrysler Ad

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes the Paul Harvey/Chrysler ad was "One of the most acclaimed television ads from Sunday's Super Bowl." The ad called "So God Made a Farmer," was "two minutes of love and nostalgia for the heartland, narrated by iconic radio voice Paul Harvey." The ad was delivered over an audio excerpt from Harvey's 1978 speech to the Future Farmers of America. Here's the full story from the Gazette.

Curtis Adds Steve Harvey In Raleigh

Programming changes at "The New 96.9" (WBZJ) were announced by Curtis Media on Friday. Starting Monday, The Steve Harvey Morning Show will air Monday through Saturday. Also joining the lineup in January are Keith Sweat and Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Is Steve Harvey The New Titan Of Talk?

People Magazine thinks so....on TV anyway. In a story titled ?Talk?s New Titan,? Harvey says he owes his work ethic to has father and that he plans to continue to work as hard as he does because he loves to see the smiles his success puts on the faces of his family. Harvey also discusses how he went from living out of his car to hosting a hit daytime talk show, giving credit to faith and family for his success. The Steve Harvey Morning Show is heard on more than 60 radio stations nationwide and is syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks.

Harvey And Premiere Give Away 6,000 Turkeys

Harvey Kicks Off Mentoring Campaign

This Saturday in Chicago, syndicated morning man Steve Harvey will kick off a new initiative driving the need for mentoring around the country, with the launch of the Steve Harvey Mentoring Campaign. Created in a partnership between The Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation and the Open Society Foundation?s Campaign for Black Male Achievement, the Steve Harvey Mentoring Campaign is attmpting to create and expand stronger mentoring relationships impacting African-American boys around the country, with nationwide events to inspire men to become mentors. 

Steve Harvey says, ?I?ve seen first-hand what a powerful impact mentoring can have on our youth. To empower the next generation, the guidance and wisdom that mentors provide is a one-of-a-kind experience that can?t be found in any classroom. Anyone has the power to become a mentor, and one person can spark a change in the lives of young men now, building a brighter future together with the next generation.?

Driving a nationwide initiative for 2012 and 2013, the Steve Harvey Mentoring Campaign will host a mentor recruitment drive in Chicago on November 17, following one that took place in Los Angeles on October 27, with additional mentor drives scheduled for 2013 in Philadelphia, New York City, Washington D.C., Dallas, New Orleans, and Atlanta.

New York Market Radio (NYMRAD) will present Michael Franti and Spearhead at NYMRAD?s "listen... The Sound of Influence," the guest-list-only Radio + Digital event during Advertising Week, which takes place Wednesday, October 5th, 2:00pm to 6:00pm at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square. (Audio) Steve Harvey Ridicules Tavis Smiley

Sadly, I listened to Steve Harvey's rant and tirade against Tavis Smiley recently. Harvey's rant was sad because he didn't learn a lesson that affected him personally about 4 months ago. Everyone remembers when Tom Joyner, his fellow nationally syndicated air brethren, made an embarrassing spectacle by inviting Steve Harvey's ex-wife on the TJMS morning show and she aired Harvey's dirty laundry.
I was among the first to publicly support Harvey when Tom Joyner invited Harvey's ex-wife on the air. Why? Urban Radio shouldn't be the place where these personal attacks take place. Urban Radio airwaves are simply too important as the primary source of information and entertainment for the tens of millions of African American consumers.
To Tom Joyner's credit, he apologized for the spectacle and embarrassing debacle. Urban Radio pioneers such as Frankie Crocker, AD Williams, Rufus Thomas, and many more are turning over in their graves because of this gross misuse of the connection to the African American community. Steve Harvey used the following words to attack Tavis Smiley including "petty, poverty pimp, and hustler." Why? Harvey believes that Tavis Smiley has a personal vendetta against President Obama.
Steve Harvey's personal opinion about Tavis Smiley doesn't make his perspective factual. My strong disappointment stems from the fact that Harvey used the sacred airwaves and landscape of Urban Radio to launch this sad personal attack. Harvey didn't use the airways to attack Tom Joyner, his on-air competitor and fraternity brother (Harvey and Joyner are members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity).
No, he choose to use Urban Radio's airwaves to attack a man who has proven that he's willing to stand up for his principles. Tavis like all African Americans and Americans in general has the right to make our political leaders accountable. That's the American way. I have mis-givings about comedians becoming stewards of Urban Radio's airwaves. Urban Radio shouldn't your personal vehicle to attack fellow Urban personalities or your personal vehicle to sell your books, tv shows, concerts, clothing lines, credit cards.
Your presence on Urban Radio is a privilege not a right. Urban Radio is a vehicle of empowerment for African Americans. It has enabled African American to elect local, state, and national leaders including The President of The United States. Reflecting on Steve Harvey's personal tirade against Tavis Smiley, I say it again. Urban Radio deserves better. To bad, Steve Harvey didn't learn a lesson from the earlier experience with Tom Joyner.

I would have to agree. But since radio is a numbers game, perhaps Harvey's numbers go up when he rants and raves against another brother. Personally I would rather listen to the motivator Les Brown on urban radio than Harvey, but for some reason urban radio hasn't embraced Les Brown and he had to take his positive messages to KFWB-AM. And you best believe, my radio is tuned there.

Harvey Names The Date For 2011 Hoodies

May 19, 2011: Author, TV host, and Premiere Radio Networks personality Steve Harvey will host the 2011 Ford Hoodie Awards, recognizing the contributions of outstanding schools, churches, businesses, and community leaders, on August 11 in Las Vegas. Harvey and producing partner Rushion McDonald established the awards in 2001, and Ford Motor Co. is now the presenting sponsor.

Awards will go to the Best High School, Best High School Teacher, Best Church, Best Church Choir, Best Soul Food, Best Barbecue, Best Fried Chicken, Best Car Wash/Detail Shop, Best Beauty Salon, Best Nail Salon, Best Barber Shop, and Best Community Leader. Nominations open May 23 and run through June 8, and voting will run June 27-July 13, with nominations and voting in one category per day.

Harvey said, "In tough times and even in good times, it can be difficult for independent businesses and entrepreneurs to thrive, and these individuals continue to be beloved in their community for everything
they do teaching the kids, inspiring their congregations, and enriching the neighborhood with their hard work and expert service."

He continued, "I am blown away and humbled by the throngs of men and women who come to enjoy Vegas and support each other at the Hoodies every year, and I am grateful for the supporters, celebrities and performers who help make these celebrations unforgettable and cheer on everyone's special accomplishments."

This year's awards show will feature performances by Kirk Franklin, Kem, Jill Scott, and more, and Kevin Hart will host the VIP After Party with DJ Kid Capri. The four-day Hoodies Weekend, August 11-14, is also set to feature a Ladies Gambling Party hosted by Shirley Strawberry and Carla Ferrell and the State Farm Singing Hoodie Finals, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer and featuring Eric Benet. The weekend will wind up with the Steve Harvey Foundation Charity Golf Tournament and Hoodie Awards Charity Beach Party on August 14.
