Katz Launches Division For Cumulus

The new division at Katz Radio Group, called Westwood One National Sales, will be dedicated to Cumulus owned-and-operated stations nationwide. KRG President Mark Gray said, ?Our common goal is to get radio a much bigger share of advertiser spending by solving their marketing problems and showcasing the unmatched results radio delivers. Our new partnership with Cumulus to launch Westwood One National Sales strengthens our ability to deliver the most innovative marketing solutions for advertisers and agencies across the expanding advertising platform of one of our important partners.?

Bryan Forbes has been promoted to senior vice president, general manager of Westwood One National Sales. Forbes is currently vice president/director of sales at KRG, a position he has held since 2003. In his new role, Forbes will oversee National Sales for all 460 Cumulus owned-and-operated radio stations. Westwood One National Sales will have dedicated offices in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.

TCCP Launches Digital Division

Consultant company TCCP has launched a digital platform designed specifically to grow website views and the digital revenue of local radio stations. The platform is being piloted on ten local radio station web sites this month and will available nationwide in Fall 2014.  TCCP President Kent Phillips says, ?Radio broadcasters have challenged us to develop digital solutions with solid metrics that compliment their radio stations, not take listeners and dollars away from their stations. I think we have a viable solution. In an atmosphere of layoffs on the programming side of our industry, we are thrilled to be hiring and growing, we are positive it remains a good time to be in radio.?

Galaxy Creates Sports Marketing Division

Galaxy Communications is launching a new sports marketing division. President and CEO Ed Levine (pictured) says the new group will focus on the sports franchises that Galaxy is a flagship for or has an affiliate relationship with, in Syracuse and Utica. Those teams are Syracuse University football, basketball, and lacrosse, as well as the Utica Comets, Syracuse Crunch, Utica College, the Buffalo Bills, and the New York Giants.

To oversee this new initiative, Galaxy Sports Marketing has hired Ken Elander as General Manager. Elander has held high-ranking positions at Time Warner Cable, Driver?s Village, and WTVH. Galaxy owns 14 radio stations in the Syracuse and Utica markets, and also has a division called Galaxy Events.

Caine Bulks up the DG Sports Division

Matthew Colborn joins Dial Global as Director of Sports Sales, West Coast. Account Manager Julie Boruchov is promoted to Director of Sports Sales, East Coast. And, Amilia Poin takes on a new role as Sports Coordinator. Dial Global CEO Paul Caine says, ?This is an exciting time for Dial Global and our ability to influence the programming and content in sports through the power of sound. We are committed to delivering the best marketing solutions to our clients with our excellent sports content and live event activations. I am confident that we have the right team in place, with the right mix of experience and knowledge to connect the market to Dial Global?s compelling content, and to continue to push the boundaries of what?s possible in audio.? 

Colborn comes to Dial Global from US Interactive Media (USIM), where he was the Director of Client Services.  Prior to USIM, he worked for Advanstar Communications and Nielsen Business Media, selling advertising in publications, online, and event marketing.  He will be based in Los Angeles and will report directly to Michael Schreck, SVP/Director, Corporate Sports. 

Boruchov began her audio career as a Sales Assistant at Westwood One, moving up to Sales Planner and Account Executive.  Following Westwood One?s merger with Dial Global, Boruchov became an Account Manager.  She will be based in New York City and will also report to Michael Schreck. 

Poin most recently worked in Dial Global?s Traffic division where she acted as a liaison between sales and production to ensure proper placement and delivery of all commercials in Dial Global?s sports programming.

Harris Sells Broadcast Division For $225 Million

Harris Corporation  has reached an agreement to sell Broadcast Communications to an affiliate of The Gores Group, LLC for $225 million. The price includes $160 million in cash at closing, a $15 million subordinated promissory note, and an earnout of up to $50 million based on future performance. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory review and closing conditions and is expected to be completed in early calendar year 2013. 

"The sale of Broadcast Communications reflects our strategy to optimize our business portfolio and focus on our core businesses," said William M. Brown, president and chief executive officer of Harris. "As previously communicated, we plan to repurchase up to $200 million of our shares after the deal closes. This is in addition to the $200 million of share repurchases already planned for fiscal 2013 and reflects our ongoing commitment to effectively deploy capital, including returning cash to shareholders."
"In Harris Broadcast Communications, we are investing in a proven technology leader with great products and a great team. We are excited to provide the capital and support to transition this division to a strong and independent company further enabling it to continue developing and delivering market-leading technologies to its customers," said Ryan Wald, managing director of The Gores Group.

(EXCLUSIVE) Entravision Radio Division President Previews What He'll Say at Radio Ink Conference

With 48 stations, 46 in the top 50 Hispanic markets, Entravision is a major player in Hispanic Radio. Entravision Radio President Jeffrey Liberman has had a front row seat to the explosive growth of the Hispanic population and the popularity of Hispanic Radio. This week, at the Radio Ink Hispanic Radio Conference that starts tomorrow in San Diego, Lieberman will be part of a star-studded Hispanic Radio group head panel that will also feature Jay Meyers, CEO, Adelante CEO Jay Meyers, Davidson Media Group Chairman Sanjay Sanghoee, Univision Radio President Jose Valle and SBS CEO Raul Alercon and be moderated by Carl Butrum of the Broadcasters Foundation. Fisher Radio Division Off 14%

Radio net revenue for the 8 Fisher radio stations dropped to $5.3million for the third quarter of 2011. Cash flow also dropped from $1.5 million to $494,000 and the cash flow margin for the company was down from 32% to 28%. Fisher says the reason for the big drop was the 2011 results do not include the KING-FM Seattle joint sales agreement which did show results in 2010. That JSA was not renewed in 2011.
