Entravision Targets Hispanic Moms

4-2-14

Entravision Communications has launched Todobeb?, a content vertical focused on motherhood issues reaching Latinos in the U.S. and Latin America across an integrated media platform, including digital and mobile media, television, radio, and point-of-sale marketing services.

Entravision CEO Walter Ulloa said, "Our diversified multi-media assets provide an ideal platform to reach Latino consumers. The development of our content offering has been a key strategic initiative, and with the introduction of Todobeb? to our owned platforms we are expanding our service to the U.S. and Latin American Latino community and creating a new and powerful marketing vehicle for advertisers."

Entravision Chief Revenue Officer Mario Carrera said, "Moms are highly coveted consumers who make and possess tremendous influence on the purchasing decisions of their families. Todobeb?'s focus on Latino moms offers a unique and exciting opportunity for brands to engage this growing audience, at a time when new purchasing habits are being formed. With one out of every four U.S. children born into a Latino family and with nearly $200 billion in annual purchasing power, the Latino mom market segment offers a significant opportunity to continue to grow our Todobeb? platform into a trusted marketing channel for advertisers."

In 2012, approximately 53 million Hispanics lived in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.  Approximately 68% of the total future growth in the U.S. population through 2030 is expected to come from the Hispanic community. The U.S. Hispanic population is estimated to have accounted for total consumer expenditures of over $806 billion in 2010, an increase of 21% since 2005, and Hispanics are expected to account for over $1 trillion in consumer expenditures by 2015.  Hispanic buying power is expected to grow at nearly three times the rate of Hispanic population growth by 2025.

Entravision Q4 Revenue Declines 6%

2-28-14

Entravision's net revenue decreased to $60.1 million for the fourth quarter. The company says $2.7 million was generated by its television segment due to a decrease in political advertising revenue. That decrease was only partially offset by increases in local advertising revenue and retransmission consent revenue.  $1 million of the overall decrease was generated by radio, also due to political comps. Entravision CEO Walter Ulloa said Q4 saw continued growth in the company's core advertising revenue.

Entravision Radio Rises 6% In Q3

11-1-2012

Net radio revenue from the Spanish-language-focused company was $17.6 million in Q3 of 2012, up from $16.6 million in 2011. While local revenue was only up 2 percent, national jumped 25 percent. Entravision CEO Walter Ulloa (pictured) says that while the operating environment continues to improve, local is not rebounding as quickly as national. Political revenue has been very strong for Entravision.

Political revenue is up 18 percent compared to the 2008, the year of the previous presidential election. When Entravision backs out political revenue, core radio revenue was up 3 percent. Entravision added 39 new radio advertisers in Q3 totaling $800K in new revenue. The Los Angeles Entravision cluster, which consists of three Spanish-language formats, was up 10 percent for the quarter, while Miller Kaplan is reporting a decrease of 1 percent in market revenue, according to Ulloa. The CEO says the company has incorporated a new cold-calling strategy and a new commission plan.

Entravision owns and operates 48 radio stations, 46 of which are located in the top 50 U.S. Hispanic markets.

Entravision Uses Facebook, Scores Big With Latino Rock Concert in L.A.

11-1-2012

One reason Entravision had a big 3rd quarter (see story below) was one of the company's most successful annual events. Entravision hosts one of the largest Latin music events in the United States. This year was the 14th year the concert was held and the first year the company incorporated Facebook in its strategy to sell tickets, according to Entravision CEO Walter Ulloa. It was also a record year for national sponsorships at the show which featured the most popular Latin Rock bands in the format who played to over 13,000 fans for over 6 hours at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Entravision incorporated its Facebook page by asking listeners to "like" them on the Social Media site. Listeners would then receive a pre-sale code for tickets to the show. Entravision sold half its tickets to the Staples Center concert via this Facebook promotion. The event was completely sold out in 6 hours. Major sponsorships were sold to Budweiser, McDonalds, AT&T and Toyota. Ulloa says it was a record year for sponsorships.

This year 12 million Latinos will vote according to Ulloa. That is a 25% increase in the total from 2008. In 2012 Entravision expects to generate $16 million in political advertising (including its Television properties), an increase of 107% from four years ago. Ulloa believes the Latino population may very well decide who sits in the White House when it's all said and done next week. The company has properties in Nevada, Colorado, Florida and Virginia. All are considered very important states in this election.

Entravision Radio Revenue Flat During Q2

8-2-2012

While Entravision TV revenue increased 13 percent, Entravision CEO Walter Ulloa reported flat radio revenue for the second quarter of 2012. Entravision radio revenue was a little over $17 million, almost identical to the 2nd quarter of 2011. Local revenue was down 3 percent and national was up 7 percent. But it appears from Entravision at least that national advertising is starting to come back big.

Ulloa reported that although national revenue decreased 15 percent in April, it did a complete about-face in May, June and July. National advertising at Entravision increased 18 percent in May, 20 percent in June and was on pace for another 20 percent jump in July. Political revenue in the the second quarter of 2012 was $358,000, an increase of 80 percent over 2008, the last presidential election year.

The top five growth categories for Entravision in the quarter were:
Automotive up 27 percent
Services up 19 percent
Telecom 18 percent
Grocery up 12 percent
Healthcare up 2 percent

And Entravision wrote business for 40 new advertisers that spent more than $10,000.

Auto Makes up 22% of Entravision Radio Revenue

5-8-2012

Good news from the automotive category was offset by dismal news from the wireless sector according to Entravision executives. The company reported flat radio revenue in the first quarter of 2012, much of the blame is being placed on national advertising, down 12%. Entravision reported automotive grew 32% with Ford spending $177,000 in the quarter, an increase of 70%. ATT&T decreased by 60% and Verizon was down 23%. McDonalds was the top radio advertiser for Entravision and the automotive category now makes up 22% of the entire radio revenue pie at Entravision. CEO alter Ulloa (pictured) said "the company is very focused on cold calls to grow new business."

Ulloa also said Entravision's Los Angeles radio cluster was up 5% in Q1 and the company's interactive division is becoming increasingly important, now making up 2% of the total revenue at Entravision, having experienced a growth of 28% in the first quarter of 2012. Entravision is expecting political ad spending to pick up in the next two quarters. Radio at Entravision Drops 6% in Q4

3-8-2012

(Correction - This morning, our headlines mistakenly listed Entravision as Univision)
The radio division at Entravision saw revenue drop to 15.8 Million in the 4th quarter of 2011 from 16.9 Million in the 4th quarter of 2010. For the year radio revenue at Entravision came in $5 Million under what it produced in 2010. The company said that was "primarily attributable to the non-occurrence of advertising revenue from the World Cup in 2011 compared to 2010 and a decrease in political advertising revenue, which is not material in 2011." Entravision owns or operates 48 primarily Spanish-language radio stations.

Chairman and CEO Walter Ulloa said, ?During 2011, we faced challenging comparisons to 2010, when we benefited from World Cup and political advertising revenue. We also continued to face a challenging advertising environment generally, as our advertising customers continue to make difficult choices in the current uncertain economic environment. Nonetheless, core advertising showed modest improvement during 2011. Our audience shares remain strong in the nation?s most densely populated Hispanic markets, and we believe we are well positioned to benefit as the U.S. Hispanic market continues to expand and advertisers increasingly recognize the importance of reaching our target audience.?
