Former A.G. To Keynote Radio Ink Conference

1-28-15

Radio Ink is pleased to announce that former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales will keynote the Radio Ink Hispanic Radio Conference being held in Dallas on March 4-5. Gonzales holds the distinction of having held the highest post in U.S. government ever held by an individual of Hispanic heritage, having served from 2005-2007 as a cabinet member under President George W. Bush.

Gonzales' presence at the conference is a signal of Hispanic radio's importance during this time of uncertainty regarding immigration matters and the ever-more-influential Hispanic vote.

Radio Ink Publisher B. Eric Rhoads says, "This is a major feather in the cap for Hispanic radio when a prominent leader like Gonzales takes time out of his incredibly busy schedule to address the community of Hispanic radio stations. This shows just how important Hispanic radio is on the political scene today. He is also the highest-ranking government official to ever keynote any Radio Ink conference."
President Bush named Alberto Gonzales to lead the Department of Justice in 2005, stating that, "Al has been a model of courage and character to his fellow citizens." Before entering public service, Gonzales practiced business law for 13 years at the Houston law firm of Vinson & Elkins. In 1995, he resigned his law partnership to serve as general counsel to the Governor of Texas, and after three years was appointed Texas Secretary of State. He was named to the Texas Supreme Court in 1999 and elected by the citizens of Texas to serve a full six-year term in the November 2000 general election. He served in the White House as counsel to the president from 2001-2005. Gonzales is an Air Force veteran, and attended the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Streamline Publishing EVP Deborah Parenti says, "Judge Gonzales' unique insight on a variety of issues facing the country should provide thought provoking conversation among the Hispanic radio community and its leadership gathered at the Hispanic Radio Conference in Dallas this year."

This will be a historic appearance by a top U.S. official at the radio industry's only conference devoted to Hispanic radio. Don't miss it: Register now!

New this year is the addition of the first annual "Speed Mentoring Breakfast." Conclave Chair, Lori Lewis on the new addition to the Learning Conference, "I reached out to many of my radio mentors to see if there was any interest in doing something like a speed mentoring event. These are some of radio's best minds who are naturally very busy so I wasn't sure what the response would be. New Conclave Conference Format Announced

3-20-2012

The Conclave has announced a new format for the 37th Learning Conference. The changes include a shift in the days of the week. This year Conclave kicks off the morning of Wednesday July 18, with the return of ?Summer School? presented by Jacobs Media. Also March 31 is the deadline for students with an interest in radio and music to apply for The 2012 Radio and Music Industry Scholarship Program, which will award nearly $60,000 in scholarships. Caballero Honorary Chair of Hispanic Conference

12-13-2011
Radio Ink has announced that highly respected broadcaster Eduardo Caballero will serve as honorary chairman for the upcoming Hispanic radio conference being held in San Diego. Radio Ink V.P./GM Deborah Parenti said "We are extremely honored and proud to have Mr. Caballero as honorary chair of the Hispanic Radio Conference, His vast experience in all areas of Hispanic broadcasting, advertising and public service, will help insure a compelling, focused and exciting agenda for the 2012 Hispanic Radio Conference."

About the conference, Caballero said "this is the right moment for us to come together to address the challenges, trends, issues, and particularly the opportunities in front of Hispanic radio broadcasters across the country. It offers a unique chance to unite and exchange ideas targeted to radio and digital platforms. Because of its importance, we as an industry need to embrace this effort and make it successful so it can continue. The timing could not be better. The 2010 Census added an enormous volume of compelling statistics that irrefutably support what we have known for a long time: The United States is the second-largest Spanis -speaking nation in the world, a culturally diverse cohesive force, and the strongest Hispanic economy -- formed by major Hispanic radio listeners and heavy users of all types of digital and social media."

If Hispanic Christopher Columbus Discovered America--then Eduardo Caballero discovered National Business for Hispanic Radio & TV Stations in early 60's . Eduardo & his wife Rosa, Attorneys, escaped from Cuba to get to Florida. Got into radio sales--when all Hispanics were called names now not politically correct. Somehow Eduardo got into The National Sales Station Rep business. Built his own Rep firm. Found his client stations got screwed by Pulse, Hooper & Nielsen's methodology. Got laughed out of Ad Agencies.
So- Eduardo was really the first National Sales Rep in history--Gringo or Spanish-who consistently bypassed Ad Agencies to go direct to P& G--General Foods-- General Motors, etc. Eduardo not only taught them about the inherent values of Spanish formatted radio-TV stations--Eduardo actually taught them about radio.
Our Rep firm--Eastman Radio -competed against Eduardo . Finally we gave up and co brokered with Caballero Reps. If you can't beat 'em--join 'em. Eduardo is a true treasure who's never been awarded the tributes he so richly earned. --by the "General Market" broadcasters.

Hispanic Radio Conference III Is On

And we're headed to San Diego. The third Radio Ink Hispanic Radio Conference will bring together leaders in the Hispanic radio community and experts in Hispanic advertising and media for a comprehensive overview of opportunities and strategies within this rapidly transforming sector. The conference will be held March 21-22 at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in San Diego.

"Hispanic radio is kind of a microcosm of both the industry and the populations it serves," said Deborah Parenti, VP/General Manager of Radio Ink. "From its launch in 2007, the Hispanic Radio Conference has aimed to embrace all of those facets with an agenda that spotlights the opportunities, address the challenges, and unites the leadership of Hispanic radio. We are excited and proud to work with the Hispanic radio industry again in presenting the 2012 Hispanic Radio Conference in San Diego."

Over the past few decades, the Hispanic radio landscape has evolved significantly. No longer a regional specialty, Hispanic radio formats have cropped up nationally as general-market radio companies are recognizing the value of Hispanic programming, and of serving Spanish-language radio in all formats, for all demographics.

Between 2000 and 2010, the U.S. Hispanic population grew by 43 percent -- more than four times the growth for the population overall. "This census will turn the tide for Hispanic radio," Said B. Eric Rhoads, Publisher of Radio Ink. "Because of the growth of the Latino population, its importance as a marketing segment will impact all advertisers in America and all radio groups."

"It is my belief that there is a continued need for unity among Hispanic radio operators," Rhoads said. "This industry within an industry needs unity to strengthen its opportunity with advertisers. By finding a unified way to build Hispanic radio and increase its tools, its opportunities, and its sophistication, we can grow as an industry. We've developed a fresh new format for this year's conference, which will not only be informative to everyone operating in Hispanic radio, it will actually engage multiple advertisers not using Latino radio with ammunition to seriously consider the format."
