Morning Man Quits After One Week

The Kansas City Star reports Randy Miller quit after being on the air at KWKJ-FM for one week. He started Monday, February 10 and quit Friday, February 15. KWKJ co-owner Greg Hassler told the paper, "Guess we were not what he thought. He never really gave it a chance. Think we might have been a little small-time for him." On his Facebook page, Miller wrote: ?Just couldn?t get any callers that wanted to take part. Tried to give away a $1500 set of diamond earrings, and got ZERO entries. Makes it tough.?

Sheppard Quits, Slams Entercom

Weekend and fill-in host Pete Sheppard used the WEEI airwaves to quit his job Saturday burning any bridge he may have had with Entercom. Sheppard said he could no longer stand working for the company. Boston.com reports Sheppard used he Facebook page to tease his plan then announced on the air he was quitting on the spot, stating he was frustrated with the way Entercom was running the station over the past several months. He said he was going out on his own terms this time. Sheppard was fired by Entercom once before.

Sheppard was often heard on "The Big Show'' hosted by Glenn Ordway in the early 2000s. He was fired back in 2000 and rehired in March 2012, according to the Globe. Read more here at The Boston Herald. The paper writes, "He Quit With Flair While on the Air."

Without Warning Ralph Bailey Quits KNZR

A not-so-nice welcome for new KNZR General Manager Mary Lou Gunn, who started her new position last week with the Buckley station in Bakersfield. The popular conservative talker gave no reason for giving his two week notice, however, The Bakersfield Californian speculates he may be getting ready to take a job with American General Media's KERN. Gunn told the paper, "He was a huge part of the success of the radio station. He will be hard to replace." Bailey did post this long goodbye message on his Facebook page.

"It was with a heavy heart that I tendered my resignation to Buckley Radio today. However, future opportunities and challenges make it virtually impossible not to seek out new adventures. I would like to thank Steve Darnell, Kathy Baker and posthumously Rick Buckley. To my colleagues, I hope I was a team player who made the station and the client top priority and someone who grasped the concept of pulling on one side of the rope. To my sponsors, I hope I played a small role in your success and thank you for your support! And to my listeners, (and you know I'm blubbering like a baby, by now) you gave me a voice in this community! I pray you will travel with me wherever I go!!! Thank you all!! It's been an incredible ride!!!!"

Seattle Jock Quits Rather Than Sell Out

Since he was 13, Marty Riemer has worked for Seattle radio stations KJR, KZOK, KXRX and, until last week, KMTT. The 50-year-old Riemer walked away from KMTT because he didn't agree with the way the station's format was heading. He told the Seattle Times, KMTT is no longer a station he would listen to, ?And I don?t want to feel like a sell-out.?
According to the paper, Riemer "started inching toward the exit earlier this year, when the station changed its format from an eclectic mix of rock and new music to include more classic hits: Eddie Money, Supertramp, REO Speedwagon." Read the Seattle Times story about Riemer HERE

"Brazil: Tests Tech Before Implementation"

"After extensive testing of both HD Radio and DRM, the Secretary of the Ministry of Communications Electronic Communications, Genildo Lins, said the tests of the two technologies have had poor results, especially high-power FM. The testing demonstrated the digital signal coverage is approximately 70% of the current analog signal. The future of radio is digital, but that future is not yet. We are unable to make a decision on these results."

Entravision COO Quits But Will Consult Company

Entravision Communications says Philip Wilkinson will be resigning from his position as President and Chief Operating Officer on May 31st.  Wilkinson will stay on as an Entravision board member and has entered into a consulting agreement under which he will continue to advise the company on its strategic and operating plans.

Fort Myers Talker Quits to Run for Congress

Conservative radio host Trey Radel is running for Florida's 14th Congressional seat. Radel is joining a growing list of people running for Congressman Connie Mack's seat. Mack is running for the Senate. Radel is a conservative and was heard on 92.5-FM, a Fox News affiliate. He announced he was running for Congress during his show this morning. Drew Steele takes over on Monday.

Veteran Austin Morning Man Bob Cole Quits

One of Austin's best-known morning men Bob Cole has left the building. The station is KVET-FM, owned by Clear Channel, and Cole tells the American Statesman "There's no animosity. Everything's going to be OK. I revere the KVET call letters and the incredible people I've worked with over the years." Cole has been on the air in at KVET for two decades. Market Manager Pam McKay told the paper "Bob Cole recently made the decision to leave KVET. We appreciate his service and dedication, and wish him the best of luck in the future."
