And Beasley Makes The Move in Fort Myers

11-10-14

Southwest Florida listeners to Sunny 106.3 are hearing standards such as Bing Crosby?s ?White Christmas,? The Eagles? ?Please Come Home for Christmas,? and Brenda Lee?s ?Rockin? Around the Christmas Tree.?  Plus recent releases from artists like Johnny Mathis, Kelly Clarkson, Michael Buble, Rod Stewart, and others. Market Manager Brad Beasley said, ?Sunny 106.3?s holiday music line-up has become a Southwest Florida tradition; for over a decade, it?s been our way of wishing our community a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and all of us at Beasley are delighted that the switch has officially been made!?

Sunny 106.3 also announced that Program Director Randy Sherwyn will host the 15th annual ?Christmas Across The Lands,? a radio Christmas show scheduled to air beginning at 9am  Christmas Eve through 1:00 p.m. Christmas Day.  The heartfelt broadcast has become an annual signature event for troops stationed overseas and with ships at sea during the holiday season.  This year, the show will bring a little holiday cheer and warmth to U.S. troops stationed in over 177 countries around the globe. Station Swaps In Fort Myers Florida

2-15-2012

WAYMedia President Bob Augsburg says his company is selling WAYJ-FM in Fort Myers to Classical of South Florida. Simultaneously, WAYMedia is purchasing 100,000 watt WSRX-FM in Naples, Florida. ?We are basically doing a frequency swap in Southwest Florida and we are excited about continuing our 24 year outreach in the Fort Myers/Naples area. This is where WAY-FM began in 1987 and we anticipate making an even greater impact in the years ahead. Since WSRX does not cover Charlotte County well, WAYMedia has made arrangements to cover that portion of Southwest Florida with a new 250 watt translator on 100.5 FM?. The WAYJ call letters will be moved to 89.5.

Augsburg continued, ?Some of the excess funds we will realize in this transaction will be earmarked towards many new digital strategies which were unveiled recently in WAYMedia?s new 2020 Vision?. The sale requires approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
WAY-FM/Fort Myers general manager Jeff Taylor also commented, ?This is a very exciting time for the original WAY-FM in Southwest Florida.  Not only will our move from 88.7 to 89.5/100.5 enable us to serve the entire region just as we always have, but proceeds from the sale of WAYJ will enable us to help fund the initial stages of WAY-FM?s Digital Media initiative.  Our ministry just got stronger!?

Florida Pirate Busted Near Fort Myers

12-14-2011

The station was called Dunbar community radio, broadcasting gospel music, PSA's and community information at 107.5. However, Al Knighten was broadcasting without a license and that's something the FCC clearly frowns upon. With the help of Fort Myers police the FCC closed down the station and arrested Knighten who spent about $4,000 to get the facility up and running. The illegal station hosted a show by the Fort Myers Citizens Police Review Board and Fort Myers Councilman John Streets also appeared on the station as a guest. Knighten was the only one charged with a crime.

Myers Predicts Strong 2012 Growth

Forecast 2012 co-chair, media economist, and Media Advisory Group Chairman Jack Myers promises this year's Radio Ink Forecast summit will be "a very different and unusual conference." As the "financial side" of this year's Forecast chair, Jack Myers brings some of the strongest credentials to the post. For more than two decades, he's been among the media industry's leading visionaries and economic forecasters.

Myers has advised more than 250 media companies, marketers, and agencies on business transformation, revenue development, and organizational best practices -- his clients have included Disney/ABC, General Motors, Coca-Cola, Campbell Soup Co., Reebok, AT&T, CBS-TV, Fox Broadcasting, and many more.

In a recent interview with Radio Ink Editor-in-Chief Ed Ryan, Jack outlined some of his vision for Forecast 2012, set for December 6, 2011 in New York. He also made some bold radio revenue predictions for 2012.

In addition to comprehensive analysis and insight into radio's economic forecast for 2012, this all-encompassing summit will include:
*Views from interesting companies in diverse categories such as gaming, digital commerce, and online digital video that aren't typically talking to the radio  industry. These companies have some of the best perspectives on where the business is headed in terms of incremental and new revenue opportunities in the near term.
*A solid tutorial on where new opportunities are and how to integrate those opportunities without disrupting the day-to-day flow of business, as well as insights on where the industry is headed and how to optimize revenues in 2012.
*Outlook on political advertising in 2012: How big? How much? Which candidates and issues will lead the way? And how will digital impact the flow to radio?

Forecast 2012 is closed to the working press, and sessions will not be recorded. The only way to learn and absorb all the information delivered at Forecast 2012 is to attend. There are only 200 seats available, so early registration is encouraged.

Forecast is Radio Ink's eagerly anticipated annual radio industry financial conference -- the only one of its kind. Radio owners, CEOs, CFOs, group executives, managers and Wall Street analysts gather to discuss the state of the radio industry and predictions for the coming year. Participants hear about current and upcoming trends and opportunities, and meet the trendsetters of tomorrow.

Each year after the conference, Radio Ink invites the 40 Most Powerful People in Radio to pick up their plaques and join us for cocktails in their honor. The 2011 40 Most Powerful featured more new faces than any time in the list's history, and Forecast attendees will get the exclusive opportunity to mingle with both new entrants and the perennials in New York's elegant Harvard Club. Only registered conference attendees are guaranteed invitations to the after-party. Attendance is limited to 200.

Don't miss your chance to gather with, and learn from, the best in radio at Forecast 2012. Get your tickets today!
