eMarketer predicts the global mobile advertising market will hit $100 billion by 2016. If correct the $101.37 billion eMarketer projection for ads served to mobile phones and tablets would represent a 430 percent increase over the final 2013 number. All these crazy high numbers are being driven, of course, by consumer adoption of mobile devices. Next year, eMarketer estimates, there will be more than two billion smartphone users worldwide.

The Kevin & Bean Morning Show, hosted by Kevin Ryder and Gene "Bean" Baxter debuted on KROQ in Los Angeles on January 2, 1990. It is now the longest-running morning drive show in Southern California. In April, the duo will be inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. CBS Radio President and CEO Dan Mason said, "Kevin and Bean have been dedicated entertainers and broadcasters in Los Angeles for more than two decades with their own sense of humor that will never be duplicated. This award is truly a well-deserved recognition of a job well done. I couldn?t be happier for them and the entire team."
In the winter of 1987, Ryder and Baxter met at the legendary Top 40 KZZP Phoenix, Arizona. Ryder had been working as one of the station's nighttime DJs, and Baxter was the music director. After establishing a fast friendship, they teamed on air for a show called Saturday Night Party Patrol, but their interest was in doing a morning show together. The duo later created a morning show demo, which they shopped around to radio stations. Andy Schuon, the then KROQ Los Angeles program director, took notice of the demo and soon after offered Ryder and Baxter the morning drive slot. Their show began January 2, 1990, and continues to this day.

"The morning show has made a huge impact on Los Angeles with its mix of music, entertainment, and humor that has resonated with Southern California listeners for decades."
The induction will be Tuesday, April 14 in Las Vegas at the NAB Show Radio Luncheon.

Clear Channel Chairman and CEO Bob Pittman and CBS Radio CEO and President Dan Mason will be featured on a Super Session panel at the Radio Show in September. The session is called "From the Control Room to the Board Room." Mason and Pittman, who both got their start in Radio as DJs, now run two of the biggest radio companies in America.
According to 2013 BIA/Kelsey figures, Clear Channel and CBS, combined, control 984 radio stations in 178 markets and generate a combined $4 billion in annual revenue, that's nearly one-quarter of the radio industry's annual revenue. Clear Channel and CBS generate more than the next 18 radio companies combined.
Pittman has been on Radio Ink's 40 Most Powerful People in Radio list since he joined Clear Channel. Mason has been on the list for 14 years. The 2014 issue of The 40 Most Powerful People in Radio comes out July 28. SUBSCRIBE HERE
The session will be September 11 at 9:15 a.m. The Radio Show, produced by the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), will be held September 10-12 in Indianapolis. The NAB's John David will moderate.

The 24th Annual Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame ceremony will be held Monday, October 20, at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. Bill Koenigsberg, who is a great friend to radio, will go into the B&C Hall of Fame on that night. Koenigsberg founded Horizon Media in 1989. Today, with more than $4.3 billion in billings and 800-plus employees, Horizon Media is the largest and fastest-growing privately held media agency in the world, representing clients including Geico, Capital One, Burger King, and A+E Networks.

WFAN's longtime afternoon host will be inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame June 13. Francesa has been with WFAN for over 25 years, nearly since day one when the station signed on in 1987 as the first Sports Talk station in America. Francesa said, ?I?m humbled and excited to be recognized by the New York State Broadcasters Association. It is a great honor, and anything with New York attached to it means all the more to me."
Since 2008, Francesa has hosted his own afternoon show, Mike?s On, on WFAN. From 1989 to 2008, he hosted with Chris ?Mad Dog? Russo, who now has his own channel on SiriusXM. In 2000, the Francesa/Russo duo became the first Sports Talk hosts ever to win the Marconi Award for Major Market Personality of the Year, an award Francesa received again in 2012. He was the first sportscaster to ever earn radio?s biggest honor more than once. Both Talkers Magazine and Radio Ink have named Francesa as the No. 1 Sports Talk host in the country the past two years.

There's been no word about the radio rights to the Boston Celtics after Entercom's WEEI decided to leave the negotiating table. The Boston Globe is reporting that a likely landing spot would be 98.5 The Sports Hub, owned by CBS. The station already carries Bruins hockey and might have conflicting game nights. However, with four other stations in the market, the paper speculates that CBS could probably juggle games using other signals. FULL STORY HERE

Bryan Feldman and his 15-year old son Jaycob (known as Jayc on the air) are creating quite a name for themselves on the Internet. The sports talking Podcasters were featured in the Las Vegas Review Journal where they hinted about a possible hook-up with ESPN and their show is scheduled to move to KLAV-AM March 3rd. One segment of Jayc & Dad is called the Father Son Spotlight. It includes a sports celebrity and either their father or son.
The Journal reports the show has several segments that help build the credibility of what the duo has to offer. "Legal correspondent Michael Printy, a Las Vegas criminal attorney and sports aficionado, covers pertinent legal issues as they arise in the world of sports. NFL correspondent, Pete Chryplewicz, a former Detroit Lion and Notre Dame tight end keeps the audience abreast with what's going on from an insider's perspective."
"In today's day and age, anything is possible," Chryplewicz said. "There are no more boundaries. There are no more stereotypes or prejudices. ... They found a couple voices of reason who listened to their (pitch) and said, 'You know what? This is a feel-good, do-good type of program. Why not put it on the air?' "
Jayc said he likes the idea for another reason. "It kind of brings us together, and it brings other father-sons together."

A group of broadcasters including representatives from The NAB, Clear Channel and Emmis are headed to Washington April 24th to have a roundtable discussion with Florida Congressman Gus Bilarakis (pictured) to discuss, among other things, getting the FM Chip in all cell phones. Bilirakis is the chairman of the subcommittee on emergency preparedness, response and communications subcommittee on Management, Investigations and oversight for the house committee on Homeland SecurityThe good news is this topic is still on the radar for broadcasters. The bad news is the cell phone industry is not committed to attending the meeting. Listen to our interview with the Congressman about the meeting later this month.
Broadcasters are no longer looking for a mandate from lawmakers, they are however, continuing to plug away on the safety issue. They consider radio essential in getting local information out to the public when a weather disaster hits. We spoke to Bilarakis yesterday about the hearing he has planned, what his goals are and what he expects to hear from broadcasters. The NAB, Emmis Interactive, Intel and iBiquity are hosting a press conference Monday at noon in Las Vegas to discuss HD chip technology for cell phones.

Bloomberg is reporting that Nassau is facing an involuntary petition for bankruptcy from creditors for which the company owes over $80 million. Goldman Sachs says it is owed nearly $70 million of the $83 million from the Nassau debt. Fortress has also made a claim for more than $11.2 million, and P.E. Capital LLC. seeks $2.8 million. The Chapter 7 petition has been filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington. Nassau runs or owns stations in New Jersey, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

He was once heard on 1190-AM in Dallas Texas. Soon 43-year old Clifford Wayne Robertson will be preaching his investment advice to men in orange jump suits and the four cinder-block walls of a jail cell. Robertson was sentenced to eight years in prison for bank fraud. That'll be followed up by another two years for identity theft. Prosecutors, with help from the FBI, say in 2001 Robertson used someone else's identity to submit a bogus financial statement to get money by false pretenses. The feds estimated Robertson caused about $3 million in financial damage starting in 2007. He was indicted in 2009.
The New York State Broadcasters Association has announced who will be headed to the New York Broadcaster's hall of Fame. On the radio side, chairman and CEO of Buckley Radio Rick Buckley will be joined by Joseph A. Reilly, NYSBA president and the late William B. Williams, a New York City radio icon.
Buckley has been a part of the radio industry for more than five decades. He began his career as a page at the National Broadcasting Company. In 1972, after working in radio in various capacities, he succeeded his father as the operating head of Buckley Radio. Today, it is one of America's remaining privately owned radio companies with 17 radio stations across the nation in addition to the WOR Radio Network, which serves more than 380 stations in the U.S. and Canada.
Reilly has served as the NYSBA's president since 1979. During his 32-year tenure at the association, he has
expertly balanced the two worlds of broadcasting and politics. Prior to joining the NYSBA, he founded, co-owned and operated a dozen broadcast properties in Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. Reilly is also credited with launching the career of television impresario Roger King, who subsequently helped launch the careers of such TV personalities as Oprah and Dr. Phil. Reilly, who resides in Voorheesville, N.Y., will step down from his post at the end of June.
Williams, a longtime radio disc jockey and one of the industry's most devoted personalities to playing melodic tunes otherwise known as standards, worked in the industry for more than four decades. Known to his devoted audience and friends simply as "Willie B," he is best remembered for his long tenure as a radio personality at WNEW-AM in New York City. Williams had many friends, including Frank Sinatra, whom he met while the singer was hosting a radio show at WNEW early in his career. He later gave Sinatra the widely known nickname, "Chairman of the Board." For 30 years, Williams began his popular show "Make Believe Ballroom" with the greeting - "Hello World." He passed away in 1986.
Also going in on the TV side are Regis Philbin, Rod Wood and Carrie Lazarus, who recently celebrated their 25th Anniversary as co-anchors at Syracuse's WSYR-TV, are one of the longest running anchor teams in the nation and Arnold Klinsky, the former vice president and general manager of WHEC-TV in Rochester. The induction ceremony will take place at 49th Executive Conference June 27-28 in Bolton Landing, N.Y.
