WDCB Adds Ramsey Lewis As Rick O'Dell Exits

COLLEGE OF DUPAGE noncommercial Jazz WDCB/GLEN ELLYN-CHICAGO is changing its SUNDAY lineup. ROBERT FEDER reports that starting JAN. 4th, “Legends of Jazz with RAMSEY LEWIS” will air from noon-2p, following DONA MULLEN’s “DCB Jazz" from 9a-2p. They will replace  RICK O’DELL’s “SUNDAY Jazz Brunch,” which airs from 11a-2p.

“Legends of Jazz with RAMSEY LEWIS” features the music of the world’s greatest jazz instrumentalists and vocalists. “Anytime we can bring someone of RAMSEY’s caliber onboard at WDCB, it’s a big deal,” Station Manager DAN BINDERT said in a statement. “As a musician, on the radio and through his continuing work at RAVINIA, RAMSEY is one of the most visible and beloved jazz names in CHICAGO. And his ‘Legends of Jazz’ program has always been an excellent production that allows RAMSEY to demonstrate the depth and breadth of his musical knowledge.”

O’DELL decided to pull the plug on “SUNDAY Jazz Brunch,” which started last FEBRUARY due to the demands of his new job as OM of WINDY CITY BROADCASTING Contemporary Jazz “THE GROOVE"/CHICAGO on 103.9 FM, a broadcast translator.

Lewis Heads To Bloomington

Cumulus Bloomington brings in 30-year pro Tim Lewis as PD and afternoon driver for News/Talk WJBC-AM 1230. Lewis comes to WJBC-AM from Riverbend Communications? KBLY in Idaho Falls, where he was PD and morning host. Lewis has worked for KSL-Salt Lake City, KOA-Denver, WLW-Cincinnati, and KLO-Ogden. He's a two-time Murrow Award winner for his work at KOA, and was recently named Personality of the Year by the Idaho State Broadcasters Association for 2013 for his morning talk show.

Genesis Reacts To Lewis Quitting Show

Jason Lewis was syndicated by Genesis Communications Network until last Thursday when he shocked listeners with this announcement, "This is not freedom, this is tyranny. We, I, you, face a choice, to fund the beast, or to starve the beast, to host the parasite, or walk away. To feed the system, or to boycott the system. I have now chosen the latter, they can now feed off one another. Ladies and gentlemen, I QUIT.? Today, GCN PD John Haarmann sent a statement to Radio Ink acknowledging the company was aware Lewis planned to retire, however they did not know he would do in in such a dramatic way.

Haarmann said, "I've always highly respected Mr. Lewis and his activism. Jason's voice has reached millions and he will no doubt continue to affect change through his next endeavor with GALT. Jason Lewis might be leaving radio, but I feel his work has just begun." Lewis's producer, James Graham, added, ?(the) program was exciting, emotional, and somewhat confusing to say the least. Jason had hinted that he wanted to get out of the radio industry from time-to-time, but I never thought he would do so in such a shocking manner. We here at GCN were very fortunate in the fact that, Dan Conry, a longtime friend and regular guest host of the program, was able to be reached at such short notice to fill in.?

AGM Ups Bob Lewis

American General Media has promoted Bob Lewis to Director of Operations and Programming for its Bakersfield cluster. He will report to AGM GM Toni Snyder. Since rejoining AGM in 2013, Lewis has been overseeing programming for Bakersfield and Albuquerque. AGM President Rogers Brandon said, ?Both Toni and I are pleased to have Bob in Bakersfield in this important new post. Since his return to the company, he has done a terrific job building and enhancing brands for the company. His interests and skills extend beyond programming and he will be instrumental in growing our company?s business platforms."

Lewis Promoted By Clear Channel In Philly

With the departure of Dennis Lamme to D.C., Richard Lewis is promoted to Market Manager in Philadelphia. Lewis was Vice President/D.O.S. for the six station Clear Channel cluster in Philly. Lewis has been in radio since 1975 and with Clear Channel since 1992. He previously held this same position for Clear Channel from 2001-2005.

Tim Lewis News PD For Riverbend in Idaho

Riverbend Communications GM Steve Poulson says Lewis will be responsible for the news operation of Riverbend Communications which includes NewsTalk 690/1260, KBLI-AM/KBLY-AM, eastidahonews.com, and all newscasts for Class 97, KLCE-FM; Z103, KFTZ-FM; 105-5 The Hawk, KTHK-FM and K-Bear 101, KCVI-FM. Lewis has experience in news gathering and online and has been a talk show host for both news and sports. He's worked in Cincinnati, Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City, St. George and Pocatello with Clear Channel Communications, Crawford Broadcasting and Bonneville International.

Lewis is the recipient of the regional Edward R. Murrow award two times at KOA in Denver. Additionally, he has been named 8-times Sportscaster of the Year in three states: at KUHL-Santa Maria, CA; KSL-Salt Lake City, UT; and KOA-Denver, CO and, received many awards from the Utah and Colorado Broadcasters Associations. He has done play-by-play for Weber State, Idaho State, Ricks College and more. He is a graduate of Weber State University.
