TagStation, iBiquity, Team For Digital Dash

9-11-2014

In a deal announced Thursday at the Radio Show (seen here are iBiquity CEO Bob Struble and Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan), HD Radio developer iBiquity Digital is teaming with TagStation LLC -- developer of the NextRadio app and TagStation data services for smartphones -- to combine their technologies and services in an integrated automotive platform. The companies say the combination "will blend the best of broadcast technology and IP-delivered services to enhance the in-car user experience and unlock the full potential of connected services."

Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan said, "HD Radio Technology has enjoyed tremendous success in automotive adoption and is now supported by all major car manufacturers as well as over 2,300 U.S. radio stations. That success and their commitment to developing innovative broadcast solutions, made this joint development a logical next step in the evolution of the NextRadio/TagStation platform."

The agreement also provides for expansion of TagStation into critical international markets, and provides a framework for expanding NextRadio and HD Radio technology in mobile devices.

Said iBiquity chief Bob Struble, "The TagStation  team has demonstrated a unique understanding of broadcast business opportunities and the mobile applications space. Their development expertise and ability to rapidly deploy valuable consumer services has driven their success to date with Sprint. We look forward to working with the exceptional team to bring these services and an enriched broadcast user experience to HD Radio listeners."

Emmis Unveils New TagStation Products

4-6-13

With the anticipated launch of FM-enabled smartphones with NextRadio, Emmis will be pitching several new TagStation products to broadcasters this week at the NAB in Las Vagas. One is the TagStation Free Logo Service; the other is a feature for News/Talk and Sports broadcasts. Emmis will have live demos of TagStation and the NextRadio smartphone app at C955.

With the TagStation Free Logo Service, a station is able to upload a branding image that will display as default artwork in the NextRadio app as well as call letters, format, station name, and slogan. Though every radio station within range of the smartphone?s FM receiver will be represented based on current FCC database lists, this basic level of station integration creates a compelling experience within the app as the user is able to quickly associate their local stations with familiar visuals while browsing.

For news and sports stations, a schedule of broadcast events can now be created that parallels on-air programming so listeners can see synchronized text and images displayed in the NextRadio app. Scheduled events are shown when automation-triggered events have expired or are unavailable. The schedule interface is designed to accommodate everything from a simple on-air program schedule to more complex non-music format programming; serve a branding image, show title, and call-in action for a talk program; display a DJ?s photo, name, and website link during an in-studio mix on a music station. With the new schedule feature, TagStation provides a simple way for any format to visualize on-air programming.

TagStation Partners With Arctic Palm And ENCO

1-21-2013

Emmis has announced that TagStation is expanding support for on-air system integration from Arctic Palm's CSRDS and ENCO's PADapult datacasting systems. Although BE TRE remains the flagship middleware partnership, more options for stations that want to quickly launch TagStation with the services they currently use, can help with more rapid industry-wide adoption. Emmis is working on technology called NextRadio which will be incorporated into new Sprint smartphones. The technology will allow local radio stations to be played without using data.
