Bonneville Sells 17 Stations To Hubbard

Bonneville International parent Deseret Management Corp. is selling 17 radio stations in four markets -- Chicago; Washington, DC; St. Louis; and Cincinnati -- to Minneapolis-based Hubbard Broadcasting in a $505 million deal. Bonneville President/CEO Bruce Reese will join Hubbard as president and CEO of the newly formed Hubbard Radio LLC, and Bonneville COO Drew Horowitz will also take a post at Hubbard.

Football announcer Ron Franklin, fired over inappropriate comments to a female co-worker, has sued ESPN for wrongful termination, USA Today reports.

NPR, Venture Technologies Duel Over LPTV On FM

In comment filings on the digital transition for low-power TV, NPR and Venture Technologies express very different opinions on using LPTV stations as FM radio outlets, with NPR saying such stations "tend to circumvent" commission rules, to which Venture responds that the stations are in compliance, and accuses NPR of "institutional elitism." NPR is pushing for a quick digital transition, while Venture says setting a firm date would be premature.
