Consumers are still buying music, they are just doing it one song at a time. According to the latest data released by Nielsen and Billboard, total album sales, including CD's, Cassettes, LP's and digital sales, were down 15% for the first six months of this year. 142 million were sold in 2013 compared to 121 million this year. On-demand streams went from 49.5 billion during the first 6 months of 2013 to 70.3 billion for the first six months of this year, an increase of 42%. Vinyl record sales increased from 2.9 million to 4 million, an increase of over 40%. Both digital album sales (-11.6%) and CD album sales (-19.6) were down.
