ESPN Launching Cari Champion Podcast

Cari Champion, moderator of ESPN2's weekday morning First Take, will host a new weekly ESPN Audio podcast debuting Thursday. espnW Presents: Be Honest with Cari Champion will feature Champion talking sports and more with A-list athletes and celebrity guests. Regular contributors from ESPN Radio, First Take and espnW will also join the program.

Said Champion: "My hope with Be Honest is to have a platform that allows me to share not only my experiences and stories, but those of my guests, to shine a light on the intersection of culture and sport. The podcast will use sports as a way to communicate about day to day issues -- light hearted and serious. I'm excited to have the chance to present my unique voice in a world with so many opinions."

National Champion QB Joins SiriusXM

Greg McElroy, who quarterbacked the Alabama Crimson Tide to a BCS National Championship title in 2010, has joined the roster of hosts on SiriusXM College Sports Nation, Channel 91. McElroy and SiriusXM's Taylor Zarzour will host The First Team, a new morning show on SiriusXM College Sports Nation which will debut Monday, July 14, and air live every weekday from 7-10 a.m. ET/6-9 a.m. CT throughout the year.

Home Depot Still Radio Champion

With nearly 56,000 radio commercials aired during the week of April 14, according to Media Monitors, The Home Depot holds on to the top spot on the Media Monitors weekly list. Walgreens aired 43,208 commercials to come in second, GEICO was third with 34,123 spots, McDonalds fourth, airing 25,753 commercials, and Auto Zone fifth with 24,667. Macy's was the big gainer for the week, moving from 28th to 9th, airing just over 19,000 commercials.

(EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW) Radio's AM Champion

FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai has turned into a hero for AM Broadcasters. His desire to save the AM band, stemming from his love for AM radio stations, is exactly what AM broadcasters need at such a crucial time. With interference at an all-time high and so many other ways to consume much clearer content, AM radio might simply die without such an important advocate in such an important position. The question is..Is it too late?

Pai told Radio Ink that it's now or never to come up with a plan to clear up that signal. He's hoping to move forward his idea to revitalize the AM band as quickly as possible, however, a short-staffed commission may delay that plan. In the short-term, however, FM translators might be the answer. We asked Pai about the Tell City waiver which has almost become a battle cry for AM broadcasters and might clear the way for more FM translators. Is a blanket power increase for AM's the solution? What about going all digital? Or, is it simply too late to even spend the time trying to save the AM band? Here's our full interview with FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai.
