20 Years For KKFN Denver

Kudos to Denver Sports station KKFN-FM 104.3 The Fan. The station will celebrate its 20th anniversary this coming Monday. The station launched in 1995 as KKFN-AM on 950 AM. The original weekday lineup included the Fabulous Sports Babe (Nanci Donnellan), Woody Paige & Todd Mansfield, Doug Moe & Tom Green, and Jeff Reckard. On Monday, The Fan will welcome back former personalities Woody Paige, Tom Green, Dan Issel, Charles Johnson, Irv Brown, and Joe Williams. They will be joined by Rockies radio announcer Jerry Schemmel. The Fan will also hold an anniversary party on March 26 in downtown Denver.

KKFN's current weekday lineup consists of The Fan Morning Show with Mike Evans, Nate Lundy and Vic Lombardi (5:30 a.m.-9 a.m.), Dan Patrick (9 a.m.-12 noon), Sandy Clough and Scott Hastings (Noon-3 p.m.), The Drive with Alfred "Big Al" Williams and Darren "D-Mac" McKee (3 p.m.-9 p.m.), and The Fan Late Night with Ryan Edwards and Shawn Drotar (9 p.m.-12 midnight). The Fan also continues to be Denver's home for play-by-play broadcasts of the NFL playoffs, Super Bowl, and March Madness.

Classic Hip Hop In Denver At FLY 107.1

Max Media?s KDXE has joined this year's format de jour with the launch of The New FLY 107.1 ?Throwback Hip Hop and R&B,? just nine months after a format change to alternative 107X. Fly 107.1 went live at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve, jock-less, with a promise of 15,000 songs in a row without spots which will take the station commercial-free through February 1. Max Media says FLY 107.1 will complement sister station JAMMIN' 101.5 ?True Old School and Smooth R&B.?

Clear Channel Drops Progressive Talk In Denver

AM 760 in Denver will be a Progressive Talk format with mostly national shows until Friday. The non-political "Real Talk 760 ? Real Life, Real Solutions,? will debut on KKZN-AM in Denver on Monday. Real Talk 760 will feature programming focused on financial news in the morning and talk shows that offer practical advice for life. Market President Pat Connor said, ?We?re excited to bring a new genre of Talk programming to Colorado. We?re confident Real Talk 760 will be a trusted source of information and entertainment for our listeners.?

Money in the Morning will wake up listeners with programming from The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg Radio, focusing on the latest money and business news. Real Talk 760 will also feature non-political Talk programming, including Troubleshooter Tom Martino that will simulcast from sister-station KHOW-AM, as well as Dave Ramsey, Clark Howard, and Dr. Joy Browne.

KQKS Denver Extends Morning Show Contract

Lincoln Financial Media announced Rhythm Top 40 KQKS-FM has signed longtime morning show Larry, Kendall & Kathie and their producer Wign'z to a contract extension. The show debuted in 2000 and the new deal is for "multiple years." PD John Kage said, "Larry, Kendall and Kathie are amazingly talented. Each day they are irreverent, topical, and laugh-out-loud funny. They've taken their digital and social media presence to another level and their work in the community is second to none."

Larry Ulibarri added, "I'm excited to continue to entertain the masses in the best city in the world. Denver has made us number one for 11 years running and in return we keep them laughing! It's a pretty fair trade. Here's to the next three years with a great crew and an outstanding station staff."

Clear Channel Denver Makes Hager VP/Sales

Clear Channel Denver announced today that Tim Hager has been named Vice President of Sales, effective September 3, 2013. Hager will oversee all sales operations for the eight-station cluster. Most recently he served as General Sales Manager of CBS Radio's 1120 AM KMOX in St. Louis. Hager also has past experience with Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, previously serving as Account Executive, Sports Sales Manager, and General Sales Manager.

Haskell Joins Lincoln In Denver

Lincoln Financial Media has hired programmer Eddie Haskell who will return to Denver as PD at Country station KYGO-FM. Haskell comes from Cumulus in Albuquerque, where he was Operations Manager. He has programmed heritage Country station KRST-FM for the last nine years and served as the station's afternoon air personality. In addition, he supervised Country stations in the West region under previous owner Citadel. He has also been program director at KKAT-FM/Salt Lake City, KDJM-FM/Denver, WYCD-FM/Detroit, and WXLK-FM/Roanoke.

"Eddie?s impressive background programming both heritage Country stations and format challengers taking on heritage brands makes him battle-tested,? said Bob Call, Senior VP/General Manager of LFM/Denver. "From helping to sign on Young Country WYCD years ago, to defending and building the success of a great heritage brand like KRST, Eddie is a proven programmer who will help guide KYGO going forward."

Entercom is a "Ray of Hope" in Denver

Entercom's KOSI-FM in Denver will be asking listeners to tune in to ?Light the House? Tuesday, November 13 between 6am and 6pm.  KOSI listeners can become a ?Ray of Hope? to families staying at The Ronald McDonald House and children receiving treatment at the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children through pledges and donations at the 5th Annual ?Light the House Radiothon.?

Throughout the ?Light the House Radiothon,? celebrity guests will answer phones and encourage KOSI 101.1 listeners to pledge and donate.  Local businesses will present checks in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities.  Details, on-line auction items, and a complete list of incentives can be found at http://www.kosi101.com/.

Serving a six state region, Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children has the largest collaborative team of pediatric specialists in the Rocky Mountains.  Thousands of families arrive in the Denver metro area each year for treatment of major medical issues such as premature births, cancer, congenital heart problems and severe injuries.  The Ronald McDonald House provides a home-away-from home for families of these seriously ill children.  Families stay an average of 24 days at Ronald McDonald House, but many will stay much longer.  Donations received during the KOSI 101.1 Radiothon help ease this financial hardship.

Entercom Shines Brightly In Denver

Entercom is making history in Denver. KEZW Studio 1430 AM is now the largest station in the United States to be powered by the sun. In November of 2011, the station broke ground in Littleton, Colorado, on the project which now includes 40 solar panels. The project is designed to both reduce dependency on the power grid and showcase renewable energy. The station will host a live event at the site Friday to celebrate its completion.

Entercom's KEZW solar project is part of the 1Thing environmental initiative, now in its third year. The premise behind 1Thing is that if everyone did just one thing to preserve our environment, we would be one step closer to a sustainable world. KEZW PD Rick Crandall says, "I'm delighted that KEZW is leading the charge in the use of renewable energy and operating our transmitter with solar power. It's amazing that a station playing timeless music from the 40s, 50s and 60s is using the newest 21st century technology to power our signal."

Jeff Garrett, chief engineer at Entercom Denver added, "The KEZW solar project has been challenging and exciting for me. The science that allows that production of electricity from photons of light is cutting edge. We are excited about the future and I'm honored to be part of converting sunlight into radio waves."

KEZW will celebrate completion of the solar project by broadcasting Rick Crandall?s Breakfast Club live from the KEZW Solar Site at 4700 E County Line Road in Littleton Friday, 6am-10am, followed by a Solar Garden Dedication at 10am. Gates open at 8am with KEZW engineers on site to answer questions about reception and solar power.

Denver Radio Legend Dead at 67

The Denver Post reports the sad news that Charley Martin has passed away at the age of 67. Martin teamed with Hal Moore on KHOW in Denver for the Hal and Charley show. The two met each other in Des Moines while Martin was still in high school, and they were on the air together for nearly three decades. Shannon Stone joins KOSI-FM for middays and becomes Music Director.  Most recently Stone was PD and an on-air talent for the Dial Global Country format. Prior to Dial Global she was on the air and programmed Country KKCS in Colorado Springs. And, Kevin Mussman joins the station to host afternoon drive and as Digital Content Editor. Mussman had been on the air in Fort Collins for 14 years

Bob Buys Bob in Denver

Bob Denver picks up KKBO from Connoisseur in Bismarck, ND for $700,000. The standalone station is also known as "Bob FM." Connoisseur CEO Jeff Warshaw is quoted on the KFYR-TV website saying ?Bismarck is a wonderful market, but owning only one station no longer made the best business sense for us.? Denver added, "This is an exciting move for us. Together with our sister station Mojo 107.5 (KXRV-FM), Radio Bismarck expands its ability to continue serving the community with exemplary programming and local focus."

Denver Morning Man Gets Tebow Tattoo

Back when the Broncos were faltering Mike Evans, morning man for 104.3 The Fan in Denver, said on the air that if Denver wins 8 games he'd get a Tim Tebow tattoo. At the time that seemed like a safe bet for the talker who didn't have any ink on his body. As everyone knows by now, the Broncos went 8 and 8 and made the playoffs. Now Evans has a permanent reminder of the 2011 Broncos football season or, a reminder not to make tattoo bets on the air.

White Reunites With Alice in Denver

Jamie White was one of the original KALC (Alice) personalities back in the 90's. She went on to work in the L.A. market for awhile and is now returning to Denver. Entercom Denver Market Manager Amy Griesheimer has high praise for White. ?We?re ecstatic to have one of Denver?s true radio icons return to the station she helped put on the map.?
