Gambling Gets No Love From Mayor On New Station

7-16-14

The New York Radio discussion board is talking about how, after nearly 15 years talking to mayors on the radio, legendary radio host John Gambling has not had any luck booking Mayor de Blasio. Gambling, now on 970AM The Answer, had regular talks with Mayors Bloomberg and Giuliani when he worked at WOR. He's now turned to Twitter to try to goad the mayor into coming on the air. He told the Daily News he believes he's getting the brush-off because he's a conservative.

DC Mayor Joins CBS For Big Announcement

4-21-14

DC Mayor Vincent Gray (left) joined CBS Radio Senior VP/Market Manager Steve Swenson (middle) and CBS Radio President and CEO Dan Mason, Monday, to officially announce CBS' widely reported relocation. The six CBS stations are moving to 1015 Half Street SE in one of the District?s newest up-and-coming neighborhoods ? the Capitol Riverfront. The building is two blocks from Nationals Park and just south of the U.S. Capitol. CBS signed a 15-year lease for the new building.

The new facility will include a nearly 33,000-square-foot floor plan that includes offices, a street-level studio facing L Street SE, and a performance space where artists can host live shows. Construction begins in May, with the new performance space opening this summer and the rest of the building being completed by the end of the year.

Mason said, ?Our new world-class facility will provide extraordinary interactivity with listeners, and allow our stations to develop additional programming exclusive to the local community. This is an important development as we continue to strengthen the bond local radio has with the audiences in the cities where we operate.?

WJFK Lands Mayor Rob Ford

12-4-13

The embattled -- and nearly powerless -- mayor of Toronto will be on the Sports Junkies Morning Show on CBS's WJFK Thursday morning. He'll be talking football. Ford had most of his mayoral powers removed by the Toronto City Council after admitting he smoked crack cocaine, bought illegal drugs, and drove after drinking. Earlier this week, Ford caused a scene at the Buffalo Bills game in Toronto as fans came over to shake his hand and take pictures with him.

Pittsburgh Mayor Turns to Radio to Inform The Public.

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced he'll be taping weekly radio addresses and airing them on NewsRadio KDKA. They will also be streamed on the City?s web and social media sites. Director of News/Talk Programming for KDKA Marshall Adams told Radio Ink "This is a unique and very direct way for the mayor to get his message to the people of Pittsburgh. This address is very similar to President Obama's weekly media address. Mayor Bloomberg in New York does something similar, and former Pennsylvania Governor Bob Casey did a weekly radio message too. Ideally we look forward on KDKA to being able to break news in his weekly addresses. Our mayor is very excited about this opportunity. If he chooses to run for re-election, we'll need to re-consider how we execute this under equal time rules.

?I am extremely excited to be given this opportunity to speak directly to citizens on topics that are important to them, such as the work we are doing to advance our City?s Third Renaissance,? Ravenstahl said. ?It is my goal that through these weekly addresses, our residents will not only become more aware of the work we are doing to improve their quality of life, but better understand the challenges that face City government.?
