Emmis Stations Raise Over $25K For Fire Victims

Emmis Austin Radio led a six-station, daylong donation drive on Wednesday, September 7th for the victims of the Central Texas Wildfires. The drive resulted in $25,314 raised for the Red Cross of Central Texas and three truck loads of much needed supplies for the Catholic Diocese Charities of Central Texas.

The drive took place at multiple locations throughout the city. Newsradio KLBJ 590AM & 99.7FM and 93.7 KLBJ-FM were at the Rudy?s Country Store and Bar-B-Q on 183 and Duval, 93.3 KGSR and 103.5 BOB-FM were at Rudy?s Country Store and Bar-B-Q in Round Rock, and 107.1 La Z and 101X were at La Hacienda off of I-35 and William Cannon.

Brown Distributing (Budweiser) provided three large delivery trucks to haul the donated supplies.  The space to hold the collected supplies was donated by Freight Solution Providers.

The collected supplies and monetary donations were in addition to a large delivery truck full of supplies that were donated by listeners of the Dudley and Bob Show on 93.7 KLBJ on Tuesday morning, benefitting the first responders and fire victims assisted by The Austin Christian Fellowship located on River Place Blvd., near Steiner Ranch.

In addition, Newsradio KLBJ provided extensive coverage of the wildfires rampaging across Central Texas, including the only live continuous media coverage of the danger beginning Sunday night at 7:30 p.m.  Program Director Mark Caesar and Talk Host Kenny Rahmeyer anchored the live coverage featuring frequent live updates from News Director Todd Jeffries, Reporter Jarrod Allen in Bastrop and Reporter Barbara McCarley near Steiner Ranch.

KLBJ also allowed listeners to call throughout the night with first hand accounts of the multiple fires threatening the area.  This type of real-time eyewitness reporting provided invaluable information to central Texas residents regarding the fire?s path, damage, and all related efforts to aid the victims.

Emmis Communications owns and operates six radio stations in Austin including 93.3 KGSR (also on 102.7), 101X, 103.5 BOB-FM , 107.1 La Z, and  Newsradio KLBJ 590AM & 99.7.  Emmis also now offers three HD-2 music channels in Austin, 101.5 No Control Radio HD-2, 103.5 MEGA HD-2 and 93.3 The Music Lounge HD-2.

Double O in Upstate NY Raises $36K For Irene Victims.

Local Radio is doing it again. 8 Double O stations simulcast a radio-thon yesterday to raise funds for the United Way of Delaware and Otsego County Disaster Relief fund. The fund was started for people in Delaware County most effected by Irene. Listeners donated $36,000 in cash during this five hour simulcast. Central New York Radio is continuing the event because so many listeners were unable to get through to pledge.

Thousands more dollars in services such as refurbished personal computers and two rooms of carpeting were also pledged. Continuing fundraising by local car dealers and by a music festival will continue to bring in cash through September. The cash will be used for shelter, food, prescriptions and to replace back-to-school supplies.

Regional Manager for Double O Radio George Wells says he's never seen such an outpouring in 30 years in radio.
Congraulate George and his team at cnyradio@choiceonemail.com
