Former CT Gov, WTIC Personality Found Guilty Of Campaign Violations

Former Connecticut Governor John G. Rowland, who also formerly hosted afternoons on CBS Radio's WTIC-AM in Hartford, has been convicted of violating federal campaign laws by hiding consulting fees he received from an unsuccessful Republican candidate.

Rowland was convicted of conspiracy, falsifying records to obstruct an investigation, causing false reports to be filed with the Federal Election Commission, and exceeding campaign contribution limits. The scheme reportedly involved Rowland's being paid about $35,000 through a business run by Brian Foley, the husband of the candidate, Lisa Wilson-Foley, rather than through Wilson-Foley's campaign.

Rowland spent 10 months in prison after being convicted in 2004 of taking bribes from state contractors during his time as governor.

Clear Channel Chicago Faces $20K for EEO Violations

That's according to the Chicagoland Radio and Media website. The FCC alleges the Chicago cluster (WVAZ-FM, WGCI-FM, WKSC-FM, WLIT-FM, WNUA-FM, and WGRB-AM) failed to comply with EEO rules nearly three dozen times over a two-year period. A fine of $20,000 and strict reporting conditions have been proposed. The review of Clear Channel Chicago's hiring practices was done between August 1, 2009 through July 31, 2011. Out of the 36 full-time vacancies at their Chicago radio stations, Clear Channel allegedly did not follow the proper EEO rules for 33 of those hires. Clear Channel Chicago failed to notify numerous agencies of the vacancies, despite requests for information. Read the full story HERE

A $15K Fine For A Laundry List Of Violations

Debut Broadcasting, former owners of WLTM-FM and WNIX-AM in Greenville, Mississippi, gets hit for failing to maintain operational emergency alert system (EAS) equipment, maintain EAS logs, and operate in a mode and power authorized by its license. Agents observed WNIX-AM operating with daytime power. The operations manager admitted that WNIX-AM?s equipment was not functioning properly and was not capable of switching to nighttime mode and power. But that's not all.

During the inspection, the agents also observed that Stations WLTM-FM and WNIX-AM were sharing EAS equipment with a third co-owned and co-located station. The equipment that switched the EAS equipment to stations WLTM-FM and WNIX-AM, however, was malfunctioning, thereby leaving stations WLTM-FM and WNIX-AM with no operational EAS equipment. The operations manager admitted that it had been ?some time? since the switching equipment worked and since stations WLTMFM and WNIX-AM had operational EAS equipment.
