Kawasaki Returns To Convergence
World-renowned speaker and author Guy Kawasaki is returning as opening keynote to the Radio Ink Convergence conference, with an entirely new and expanded presentation on "The Art of Social Networking." Kawasaki, who opened the 2009 Convergence conference, was invited back because his talk was so well received. Rhoads also noted that the buzz surrounding Kawasaki's appearance created high interest from those who were unable to attend last year but intend to come to Convergence in 2010. "Social networking is hot," Rhoads said. "There is a huge opportunity for radio in this vast arena, and no one is better at understanding how to make Twitter, Facebook, and other sites work to his benefit than Guy Kawasaki. These are tools that are being underutilized by the programming, promotion, and sales departments. Guy will put it all together for us." Kawasaki's talk is a tactical and practical presentation that will open the audience's eyes to what can be done with today's fast, free, and ubiquitous online tools by someone with more than 140,000 followers on Twitter. Kawasaki said, "I've given this speech to several very high-level audiences, and I can assure that it works. Most of the audience, no matter how high-level, have heard of Twitter, and, if they tried it at all, they think it's stupid. Or if they haven't, they're curious. Twitter today is like websites 15 years ago. To say an audience shouldn't see Twitter in action would be like saying 15 years ago that they didn't need to learn about the Web." Special Bonus: The conference is being held at the Microsoft Campus in Silicon Valley. Yesterday Publisher Eric Rhoads negotiated rights for attendees to have access to the employees' company store, which will allow them to purchase Microsoft software at the employee discount prices, a fraction of the retail price.
