Magna: Growth For Radio In 2010

Magna updates its forecasts for U.S. advertising revenues, and is now projecting radio revenues will move up 0.6 percent in 2010, while outdoor is predicted to be up by 3.5 percent. Online will be the fastest-growing segment this year, with revenues expected to rise by 12.8 percent. For the U.S. ad industry overall, Magna sees $164.5 billion in revenues in 2010, up by 3 percent and ahead of an earlier flat forecast.

Sirius XM reports that it added 171,441 net subscribers in the first quarter, ending Q1 with 18.9 million subscriptions. CEO Mel Karmazin said that represents a "remarkably positive turn" from the first quarter of '09, when the satcaster lost 404,422 net subscribers.

The latest RTDNA/Hofstra University survey of television and radio newsrooms found little change in radio news in 2009, with the amount of news holding steady and the typical radio news staff remaining at one person. Also, about 80 percent of radio news directors report that they have responsibilities beyond news.
