ESPN San Antonio Gets An FM

Alpha Media's San Antonio ESPN is now simulcasting on 94.5-FM. Operations Director Greg Martin said, "I am thrilled that Alpha Media recognizes the importance of its AM properties having a presence on the FM; exposing our brand to a large audience who rarely uses AM." ESPN San Antonio's lineup includes Mike and Mike, Collin Cowherd, Dat Nguyen (former Dallas Cowboy and A&M linebacker), Antonio Daniels (former San Antonio Spur), Jason Minnix, and Ari Temkin. ESPN San Antonio is also home to the Houston Texans, Texas Rangers, and Texas Tech Football.

Classic Rock Gives Way To Pop In San Antonio

On Friday, Clear Channel San Antonio launched "Hot 104.5 Today's Rhythm and All the Best Throwbacks." The Classic Rock format gets pushed down the dial to 93.3 (KZEP-FM). It had been broadcasting Classic Rock to San Antonio for 25 years on 104.5 before the flip on Friday. Hot 104.5 will kick off with 10,000 songs commercial free, featuring artists like Drake, Iggy Azalea, 2Pac, Aaliyah, Notorious BIG, Dr. Dre, and Eminem. The new station's programming lineup will be announced soon.

Jack Becomes George in San Antonio

CMG San Antonio has flipped KONO-AM to CBS Sports Radio. For more than 20 years, KONO-AM 860 has been a simulcast of CMG?s greatest hits station KONO 101.1 FM. Trevino To Lead Clear Channel San Antonio

Marlene Trevino becomes the Market President for Clear Channel San Antonio, effective immediately. Trevino moves to the Clear Channel San Antonio cluster from CBS Radio in Dallas, where she was GSM for KMVK since 2011. She's also worked for Radio One and Una Vez Mas, an Azteca America Affiliate Group in Dallas. Clear Channel has seven stations in the San Antonio cluster.

Trevino joined Clear Channel Dallas in 2002 as a Senior Account Executive at KDMX and served a variety of stations in the market as GSM until 2008. She said, "Since I am a product of Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's training and leadership development, I am most excited about the opportunity to come back to the Clear Channel family. Cox Media Group in San Antonio has named Carey Edwards new afternoon drive host on KCYY-FM Y100. Edwards has worked in Houston, Austin, Phoenix, and Portland, Ore. CMG San Antonio Names Miles New Morning Man

Jeff Miles gets the gig at KCYY-FM as of August 5 and his show wil be called ?Miles in the Morning.? Miles was born and raised close to Waco, Texas, and was later based at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio as an army medic trainee. Miles has worked in radio in Dallas, New York and most recently Atlanta. Market Manager Dan Lawrie said, ?I think San Antonio radio listeners will find ?Miles in the Morning? to be a fun and upbeat way to get their day started. That brings the show's total up to 54 affiliates in the U.S. and Canada, and 10th in the state of Texas. Cox Makes Big Cuts in San Antonio

MySanAntonio.com reports Cox has made several cuts in San Antonio, calling it a "shocking" and "a major house cleaning." KONO staple Steven O. Sellers, and  Magic 105's Katrina Curtiss are out. Tom T-Bone Scheppke of X106.7 (KTKX-FM) is also gone. Traffic reporter Tom Carr is also out. Market Manager Dan Lawrie told the website, ?it was a business decision.? Cox Announces New Morning Show in San Antonio

?The Billy Madison Show? will begin airing on Cox Media Group San Antonio?s KISS-FM beginning November 28th, replacing the long-time Lisle & Hahn show. John Lisle and Steve Hahn had been doing mornings since 1992. Last week Cox San Antonio V.P. of Programming Virgil Thompson announced their contract would not be renewed. The Billy Madison show is comprised of Derek Allgood, ?Nard,? and Chubs. 

The Billy Madison Show was most recently heard on Tulsa CHR station KHTT-FM and was also broadcast on Alternative KDGE-FM in Dallas. Thompson said, ?We?re thrilled to have The Billy Madison Show on 99.5 KISS in San Antonio. Billy?s experience in rock radio in Dallas will make his show a great fit for the 99.5 KISS brand.  Their content transcends typical radio format boundaries but we really wanted a great show that would please the rock lifestyle audience of San Antonio.

Long-Time Cox Morning Team Out In San Antonio

The following is from San Antonio Cox Media Group VP of Programming Virgil Thompson. "I want to let our loyal listeners know that John Lisle and Steve Hahn will no longer be heard on KISS.  The other key member of The Lisle & Hahn Show, Kelley Kendall will remain with Cox Radio in a position to be announced at a later date." Thompson tells Radio Ink the contract of the morning show was not renewed and Hahn was contemplating retirement anyway. The show has been on since 1992.

"First, I want to thank John and Steve for their years of service to 99.5 KISS and the San Antonio community.  Lisle & Hahn?s current stint with 99.5 KISS started in January 1992 and enjoyed many great moments in the last 19 plus years.  Lisle & Hahn were also key members of the KISS air staff with various stints in the 1980s and have been one of the longest running morning shows in San Antonio and in the radio industry; that accomplishment is truly rare in the hyper-competitive radio business."
