Smyth Among Giants to be Honored

Greater Media CEO Peter Smyth, along with Pablo Raul Alarcon Sr. and Raul Alarcon Jr and several others will be honored this year at the annual Giants of Broadcasting luncheon on October 16. The Giants of Broadcasting event recognizes individuals "who have for the past century been the creators, the innovators, the entrepreneurs, the performers and the journalists who have brought the electronic arts to the prominence they occupy in the United States and the world today."  The Giants Honors were established in 2003 by the Library of American Broadcasting on the campus of the University of Maryland.

Albany's PYX Extends With Giants

Clear Channel's Classic Rocker PYX in Albany announced it will continue broadcasting New York Giants football for the next three years. Clear Channel Albany Operations Manager John Cooper said, "We?ve had the honor of broadcasting New York Giants football to Capitaland listeners for more than a decade on PYX 106. I?m excited that our partnership continues with expanded pre-game and post-game coverage for the next three years exclusively on PYX 106."

WFAN Extends Contract With NY Giants

Sports Radio WFAN in New York has reached a new multi-year agreement with the New York Giants, extending the station's exclusive flagship radio station rights to broadcast preseason, regular season, and any postseason games. Financial details and length of the extension were not disclosed. CBS New York Market Manager Don Bouloukos said, "We are proud to continue our partnership with the New York Giants, the city's premier football franchise. Our tri-state area listeners are fans of the team, and they know they can count on WFAN for unparalleled coverage, access to players and coaches, and insight they can't hear anywhere else." WFAN has been the flagship station of the Giants since 1997.

In addition, WFAN will also continue to be home of the Giants in-depth pre- and post-game coverage for all contests broadcast on the station. Additional elements of the agreement include:

-- A weekly 30-minute Giants-themed segment as part of the station's Monday Night Football coverage, presenting the latest news, game reviews/previews, and a one-on-one interview with a featured player (broadcast time TBD);

-- Giants Power Lunch -- the new one-hour live program will be broadcast one Tuesday a month during the regular season from the Giants Training Facility in East Rutherford, N.J. within the "Benigno and Roberts" show. The program airs weekdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. ET;

-- Exclusive weekly player interviews with Eli Manning and other Giants player(s) to be named prior to the start of the 2013 season;

-- An expansive schedule of weekly and daily updates and vignettes will be executed across several different programs on WFAN from trusted experts and station personalities.

Erica Farber, George Beasley Named Giants of Broadcasting

Two of Radio's 40 Most Powerful have been named Giants of Broadcasting by Library of American Broadcasting. The award celebrates "distinguished leadership or performance in television and radio."  An event to hone this years recipients will be held October 18th at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. 140 others have been honored by the Library since 2003.

Additional winners of the award this year are Norman Lear, Ted Turner, Andy Rooney, Sir Howard Stringer, Don Cornelius, Robert MacNeil and Jim Lehrer. This is the 10th year for the awards.
