Diann Hodges, news anchor with KLBJ-AM/Austin, was recognized by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters for "Best Newscast Division A" at an event held this past weekend. Hodge's award-winning newscast, which occurred on September 12, 2014, beat all other entries from major radio markets including Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.

Greater Media CEO Peter Smyth, along with Pablo Raul Alarcon Sr. and Raul Alarcon Jr and several others will be honored this year at the annual Giants of Broadcasting luncheon on October 16. The Giants of Broadcasting event recognizes individuals "who have for the past century been the creators, the innovators, the entrepreneurs, the performers and the journalists who have brought the electronic arts to the prominence they occupy in the United States and the world today." The Giants Honors were established in 2003 by the Library of American Broadcasting on the campus of the University of Maryland.

Vince Gill will be honored with the 2014 Country Radio Broadcasters Career Achievement Award at the Country Radio Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, February 18. Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell will perform a tribute to Gill and present him with the award. Gill's 17 albums have sold over 26 million copies. He's won 20 Grammys and 18 CMA awards, including CMA Entertainer of the Year, and he's already in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
CRS Executive Director Bill Mayne said, "Vince Gill is unquestionably one of the greatest artists in the country genre. His body of amazing work continues to evolve, and his performances inspire us all. He is a remarkable ambassador for country music with his talents, grace, class, leadership, humility, humanity, style, and wicked sense of humor. The CRB Career Achievement Award is presented to an individual artist or act that, through their creativity, vision, performance, or leadership has made a significant contribution to the development and promotion of country music and Country radio. Previous winners of this award include Dolly Parton, Brooks and Dunn, Merle Haggard, and George Strait.

Tom Poleman, President of National Programming Platforms for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment , will be honored at the upcoming Musicians On Call Gala to be held on November 12, 2013 at Gotham Hall in NYC. MOC is a nonprofit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients.
Launched in 1999, this will mark the first time MOC will honor someone for outstanding commitment to the organization. Through the years, Poleman has been an avid champion of MOC, serving as Board Co-Chairperson for over a decade and lending his time and support to help lighten the experience for patients being treated at hospitals across the country.
"Tom Poleman has been a driving force behind Musicians On Call for over a decade," says Dr. Leslie Faerstein, Executive Director of MOC. "He has not only served as Co-Chairperson of the Board of Directors where he had helped to steer the course of MOC, but he has been a volunteer musician at the bedsides of patients many times ? most recently early this week in Los Angeles at the Mattel Children?s Hospital at UCLA. Thanks to Tom and Clear Channel's support, Musicians On Call has been able to raise funds to grow our Bedside Performance Programs to 42 times a week in 6 cities. Greater Media Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter Smyth was featured among the honorees at the 2013 USS Constitution Museum Chairman?s Dinner and Awards Ceremony last night at the Seaport Boston Hotel. Smyth received the Charles Francis Adams Award, given in honor of one of the Museum?s founders. This award is presented to a person who has given of himself or herself for the betterment of the community.

Songwriter Dean Dillon will be named a BMI Icon at the company's 61st annual Country Awards, set for November 5 at BMI's Nashville offices. The awards honor the songwriters and publishers of the most performed country songs of the previous year, while the Icon award goes to "songwriters who have had a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers."
Dillon's credits in his long career include "Lying Here in Love with You," George Jones' "Tennessee Whiskey," and such George Strait hits as "The Chair" and "Ocean Front Property." More recently, he penned Strait's "Here for a Good Time" and Toby Keith's "It's a Little Too Late."
Previous BMI Icon honorees include Tom T. Hall, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Jr., Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, and Loretta Lynn.

Three Pittsburgh City Council members have co-sponsored a resolution, unanimously affirmed by the Council, to declare Tuesday, May 28, 2013 ?92.1 WPTS Day? in the City of Pittsburgh. This resolution follows a second consecutive Top 5 finish for WPTS in MTVu?s ranking of the best college radio stations in the country. It also recognizes WPTS Radio?s decades-long history of providing University of Pittsburgh students with valuable hands-on experience in broadcasting and related fields, as well as providing the campus and the surrounding community with high-quality radio programming.

1010 WINS reporter Glenn Schuck (left) and NBC News producer Bob Windrem were inducted into the WSOU Hall of Fame at Seton Hall University. The WSOU Hall of Fame recognizes distinguished alumni and individuals who have made a significant contribution to their professions as well as through their involvement in the student-run station.
Schuck began his radio career in 1981, served as WSOU's News Director and later became Station Manager for WSOU. Upon graduation, The New Jersey native continued in radio as a DJ for stations such as WJRZ/Jersey Shore and WPST/Trenton. He then made the switch to journalism, anchoring business reports for CNBC, and for the past 14 years reporting for 1010 WINS. Schuck also currently serves as News Director for Clear Channel's 24/7 News Source newswire and from 2009 to 2012, he served as President of the New York Press Club.

Earlier this week, Clear Channel's John Hogan was honored for his commitment to philanthropy and Clear Channel?s efforts toward finding a cure for lupus. The Alliance for Lupus Research held its 2012 Gala at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in NYC, where Hogan was honored. The event was co-chaired by Bob Pittman, CEO of Clear Channel, and Woody Johnson, Chairman and CEO of the New York Jets. The event featured performances by Karmin and The Band Perry.

Congrats to Entercom's Sports Talker WEEI in Boston for taking home the 2012 Global Lung Cancer Coalition award. The station was honored for coverage of lung cancer during the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. The award was accepted by Jason Wolfe, VP of Programming and Operations for Entercom Boston, at the Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil in Boston held at the Prudential Center.
Wolfe said, ?It?s an incredible honor to be recognized by the Global Lung Cancer Coalition and I?m so proud to accept this award on behalf of all of us at WEEI. Cancer affects us all, and we are blessed to have had such tremendous success shining a light on this terrible disease through the efforts of the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. I want to thank everyone at the GLCC for their support. It means a great deal to our entire staff.?

The National Library of American Broadcasting presented its 10th Annual Giants of Broadcasting Honors at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City Thursday afternoon. Among the honorees, Chairman, CEO and founder of Beasley Broadcast Group George Beasley and RAB President and CEO Erica Farber. They were honored for their extraordinary leadership in radio.
Also honored were Norman Lear, Ted Turner, Andy Rooney, Sir Howard Stringer, Don Cornelius, Dinah Shore, Robert MacNeil, and Jim Lehrer.

WBLS-FM in New York will be awarded the "Service to Community" award and WBHJ-FM in Birmingham will be honored with the "Service to Children" award from the NAB Education Foundation. More details on what both stations accomplished are listed below. The ceremony will take place at the Celebration of Service to America Awards dinner Monday, June 11, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
"Local broadcasters' public service efforts reach local communities in ways that other media entities cannot replicate," said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. "The NAB Education Foundation proudly honors the recipients of this year's Service to America Awards for their unwavering commitment to enhancing the communities they serve."
SERVICE TO CHILDREN AWARDS

WBHJ has put the spotlight on Birmingham's youth, making it their mission to promote education and community involvement, and answer to children in need. Through on-air promotions, liners and live and recorded breaks, WBHJ supported a plethora of initiatives such as the annual Back to School Rally, which supplies disadvantaged children with school supplies, and Diploma Day, in partnership with The Maranathan Academy, to encourage high school drop-outs to enroll in programs to obtain their GEDs. At the holidays, through Project Santa, WBHJ provided children in need with Christmas gifts. WBHJ also played a role in prevention, with on-air personalities visiting schools to speak about the importance of education and libraries to read to children as part of the summer Jamz Reading Program. In addition, WBHJ put an emphasis on creativity and community involvement by featuring sports teams, inviting youth to take over the JAMZ station for one night and through a Fall Festival for children and families.

A lack of awareness and education about health has negatively affected the African American community. WBLS has strived to turn this around by creating a Community Health Initiative to bring health-related issues into the public eye. To raise awareness, WBLS provided listeners with a Health Minute covering such topics as high blood pressure, diabetes and sickle cell anemia. WBLS also placed calls to action, partnering with the Red Cross and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. to hold blood drives and raise awareness around blood shortages. Together, they collected enough blood to save over 3,000 lives. Other initiatives, such as the bone marrow drive, resulted in 400 donor registrations. WBLS, in partnership with the Harlem Chamber of Commerce, helped raise community awareness through the 5k Walk/Run for Health and also partnered with NBC 4 and New York Nonstop to host a Nonstop Day of Giving, raising close to $195,000 for City Harvest, equivalent to 720,000 pounds of food for those in need.
