9-3-14

The company will show off the app update at the Radio Show in Indianapolis next week during a Wednesday 2 p.m. press conference. TagStation Senior VP Paul Brenner said, ?Since launching a year ago, we learned a lot about what consumers, handset-makers, wireless carriers, and radio people would do to improve the experience. The NextRadio update we?re revealing at the Radio Show will exceed expectations.  It will deliver to radio listeners, advertisers, and content owners something they could not have imagined: a unique, compelling way to interact with broadcast radio that has never before existed."

Radio Show To Give Digital AM Update

5-29-14

The 2014 Radio Show in Indianapolis this September will include an NAB Labs presentation on the latest field tests on AM stations. These results, along with accompanying laboratory tests, will determine the feasibility of an all-digital future for AM broadcasters. The 2014 Radio Show Technology Program, produced by NAB Labs in cooperation with the Society of Broadcast Engineers, will address developments in AM and hybrid radio among other technology and engineering issues impacting radio.

NAB Labs will also present a session on hybrid radio with a high-level panel discussion covering the latest success stories and opportunities for the technology, particularly the integration of Internet and broadcast. Actual implementation case studies will follow showing the technical requirements necessary to bring this value-added content to radio stations. The Radio Show, held September 10-12 in Indianapolis, is co-produced by the RAB and NAB.

(UPDATE) How Did MERLE-FM Get on Reality Show

Yesterday we told you about the story of how a small radio station in Tennessee became the subject of a TV reality show. Today we hear from the President of Merle-FM (WMYL) about how the whole thing came about. In this short interview with Radio Ink Ron Meredith explains how he got the call, what Hollywood has in store for the station and how he is loving life as a small town radio operator.

(1/25/2013 3:19:46 PM)
Aren't we lucky to have a "local" broadcaster of Ron's caliber in the Knoxville, Tn market. Gosh, without Ron the market would be overrun by us city slickers who make a living by lying to our clients.

Love the old school look of the facility. Transmitter site-studios that used to dot the landscape. Not some cluster of brands inside a business park.

(UPDATE) Cumulus/Arbitron Ratings Deal

12-5-2012

When Cumulus Regional VP Dave Crowl told a Cincinnati newspaper the corporate office was negotiating a new deal with Arbitron, it was only for the Cincinnati market. So we want to correct any misunderstanding that a corporate deal between Arbitron and Cumulus is close. It may be, but we have no knowledge of that.

Lemme understand this:
An organization this large is willing or needs to reluctantly pay an exhorbitant amount of money for questionable, less-than-dependable data in order to take at least something to the street. Do I get that correctly?

If so, I have to wonder if that constitutes evidence that "The Story" is not all that compelling or convincing.

Update: WCCC Fixes Problem With Contest Winner

10-4-2012

We've been following Monica Buchanan's story about a contest run by WCCC in Hartford. Buchanan is an NBC-TV reporter and first covered the story of listener Michele Mele who was furious when she says the radio station did not award her a contest prize she had won. Mele now says the station has made the situation right. This makes you wonder what the radio station would have done if the TV station did not run a negative story on what happened.

The contest promised up to $10,000 worth of car repairs for a person in need. WCCC owner Woody Tanger called the TV station "very concerned" and wanted to fix the problem as quickly as possible. The FCC doesn't take kindly to this kind of mistake.

In an email to NBC Connecticut, WCCC owner Woody Tanger wrote "You made every effort to find all the facts and we dropped the ball by not getting back to you in a timely manner." Mele says her vehicle, which she uses to get back and forth to therapy, was returned to her almost exactly the way it was when she gave it to the sponsors of the WCCC promotion. That prompted her call to the NBC-TV Troubleshooter team that pursued the story.

WCCC sales manager Jay Schultz told NBC, "I was just trying to make sure I was in command of the facts before I talked to you guys. I think communication is something we needed to do better.  We had a lot of people involved in this process and I should have been overseeing it more tightly and we should have had communication." Mele now says she's happy. "We had a talk about everything that happened and they offered me compensation that I'm very grateful for.  I thank them from the bottom of my heart for that. They made it right."

There is no mention as to whether a call was made to file a formal complaint with the FCC. The FCC has made it clear that it is the radio station?s responsibility to fully award each of the prizes offered in over-the-air radio station contests.

(AUDIO) Rush Morning Update. Now The Affiliates.

3-6-2012

9 Advertisers and 2 Affiliates have now decided end their relationship with Rush Limbaugh. Yesterday AOL and Tax Resolution Services pulled their advertising from the program. AOL posted the following statement on Facebook. "At AOL one of our core values is that we act with integrity. We have monitored the unfolding events and have determined that Mr. Limbaugh?s comments are not in line with our values. As a result we have made the decision to suspend advertising on The Rush Limbaugh Radio show." Also, KPUA-AM in Helo, Hawaii has decided after being an affiliate for 15 years, it was time to pull Rush from the station lineup. We spoke to KPUA General Manager Chris Leonard last night and you can listen to that interview here.

Listen to our interview with Chris Leonard HERE

Leonard said ?We have always encouraged spirited discussion about national and local issues on KPUA and from time to time those discussions may be deemed by some to be objectionable.  We are strong believers in the first amendment and have recognized Mr. Limbaugh's right to express opinions that often times differ from our own, but it has never been our goal to allow our station to be used for personal attacks and intolerance. The most recent incident has crossed a line of decency and a standard that we expect of programming on KPUA whether it is locally produced or a syndicated program like the Rush Limbaugh show."

"While much of the national debate regarding this issue is now being framed in political terms, the decision for us is one of decency and responsibility.  Regardless of one's political views on the issue being discussed, we feel the delivery was degrading and the continued comments over several days to be egregious.  As a result, we are discontinuing the Rush Limbaugh program on KPUA effective immediately.?

The Huffington Post is also reporting that WBEC-AM has also canceled the program but we have been unable to reach anyone at the station to confirm. We did find this statement online
