Radio's biggest ad category continued to show strength in an otherwise lackluster American economy. Chrysler, GM and Ford each reported double-digit sales gains in August compared to one year ago. Most analysts say consumers can no longer hold on to their aging vehicles and that, in addition to favorable financing, are two of the reasons for the gains.
GM rose 10%, Chrysler?s was up 14% and Ford jumped 13%. Toyota was up 46% and Honda was up 60% but those gains were a little skewed due to low inventory last year due to severe weather.
