First it was newspaper and now it's radio. BIA/Kelsey is revising its forecast for 2012 radio revenue from $14.8 billion to $14.3 billion. There were high expectations for radio in 2012 with it being such a huge political year. If the BIA/Kelsey forecast is accurate, that will translate to a 2.2 percent increase over 2011 revenue.
Over-the-air revenue would only represent 1.9 percent of that increase. The rest would come from digital. We'll get a solid feel for political revenue over the next three weeks as public companies start to report earnings for July, August, and September. Emmis reports Thursday.
