The CRB Radio and CRS Artist Humanitarian Awards were handed out on the opening day of Country Radio Seminar 2013, sponsored by Radio Ink, at the Nashville Convention Center. The winners were, for small market, KMOK/Lewiston, Idaho, for medium market, WCYQ in Knoxville, and for large market WLHK in Indianapolis. As previously announced, the Artist Humanitarian Award winner is Big & Rich.
Small Market Winner: 106.9 KMOK/Lewiston, Idaho
Lewiston?s KMOK was instrumental in many different local humanitarian efforts in 2012, including National Night Out Against Crime, Pet of the Week, Community Spirit Fireworks, Walk For MS Relief, Idaho Community Action Food Bank, Lewiston Round-Up, United Way Day of Caring, Relay for Life, Earth Day, and numerous others.
Medium Market Winner: 93.1 WCYQ/Knoxville
WCYQ?s contributions to fundraising campaigns included: the Helen Ross McNabb Foundation, Bethany of Knoxville, Children?s Miracle Network, East Tennessee Children?s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Horse Haven of Tennessee, Kay Yow Cancer Foundation, Habitat For Humanity, and more.
Large Market Winner: 97.1 WLHK/Indianapolis
Indianapolis? HANK FM /97.1 showed their support for Habitat For Humanity in 2012, building a three-bedroom house at the Indiana State Fair in just 15 days. The station hosted their annual Feed ?em For Freedom for National Guardsmen and Guardswomen, received national media attention for Cheri?s Chores, partnered with the Salvation Army to host a donation drive for tornado victims' relief, among other charitable efforts.
Big & Rich:
John Rich and Kenny Alphin, best known as Big & Rich, have actively undertaking charitable endeavors for more than a decade. Their humanitarian efforts have ranged from visiting individual patients in hospitals, to staging benefit concerts for the Country Music Hall of Fame and the 173rd Airborne Memorial, to their well-documented U.S. and international outreach. The duo has made a point throughout their career to help underprivileged children and families in struggling countries like Uganda, Sudan, Haiti, and Kenya, among others.
The CRS Artist Humanitarian Award was created in 1990 to honor those Country music artists who have exhibited exceptional humanitarian efforts during their career. Past recipients of the annual award have included Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Trace Adkins, Randy Owen, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn, Reba, Vince Gill, Garth Brooks, and Charlie Daniels, among others.
