Hope Rejoins Jeff Brown

Hope Angelone worked for Cumulus Senior VP Jeff Brown when he was with Entercom in Norfolk. Today Cumulus announced Angelone would join the Cumulus cluster in Atlanta as GSM at WNNX-FM. Angelone was D.O.S. for Entercom?s four stations in Norfolk. Prior to that, she held the GSM post at Clear Channel?s Hartford cluster, after serving as LSM and D.OS. for WKCI, WELI, and WAVZ.

Brown said, ?Hope was a key part of my team in Norfolk some years back and her results speak for themselves. She will be a huge asset to Rock 100.5 WNNX. Hope has an incredible work ethic and an intense focus on winning. She expects a lot from her team and gives even more.?

Big Promotion For Brown At Cumulus

Jeff Brown has been promoted to Senior Vice President responsible for 26 Cumulus markets. Brown moves to his new corporate post from his previous role as Vice President/Market Manager of Cumulus? Atlanta station cluster. Prior to joining Cumulus, Brown spent 15 years with Entercom, with Market Manager posts in Boston, Portland, and Norfolk, Virginia. The appointment is effective immediately, and a nationwide search for Brown?s replacement at Cumulus? Atlanta is underway.

Brown will report to Jon Pinch, Executive Vice President and Co-Chief Operating Officer of Cumulus. Pinch said: ?We are thrilled to be able to promote from within for this high-level position. Jeff has the energy, intellect, and experience that will make him a valuable resource for our market managers.?

Zac Brown, Gary Allan Unhappy With Country Format

Has the Country format tilted too much to the mainstream? Zac Brown and Gary Allan believe so and are quoted saying some very critical things about the format. Allan went as far as putting part of the blame on Cumulus and Clear Channel. ?I don?t feel like I make music for a genre anymore. I did 10, 15 years ago. But since the Clear Channels and the Cumulus? and the big companies bought up all the chains, now it?s about a demographic. You used to be able to turn on the radio and you knew it was a country station just by listening to it. Now, you?ve got to leave it there for a second to figure it out.?
Zac Brown said, "What we do is not necessarily traditional country, but we play all of our own instruments, we write the best songs that we can, and we put harmony on the songs, we have a real band?a lot of it?s just about subject matter. We really write about real life, songs that come from life and our heart. To me country music has always been the home for a great song. If I hear one more tailgate in the moonlight, daisy duke song, I?m gonna throw up. There?s songs out there on the radio right now that make me be ashamed to be even in the same format as some other artists.?

Brown was asked about Luke Bryan's latest hit song. ?I love Luke Bryan and he?s had some great songs, but this new song is the worst song I?ve ever heard. I know Luke, he?s a friend. ['That's] My Kinda Night? is one of the worst songs I?ve ever heard. I see it being commercially successful, in what is called country music these days, but I also feel like that the people deserve something better than that."

Saga Hires Barry Brown To Run Asheville

Brown is currently the NextMedia Market Manager in Myrtle Beach and will join Saga in a few weeks. Brown has spent more than 19 years in the Myrtle Beach area including 10 years with NextMedia and nine as an owner/operator in the market. He's served as past President of the South Carolina Broadcasters Association and is in the South Carolina Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Brown Named President/CEO at Harris

The board of directors at Harris Corporation has appointed William Brown president and chief executive officer effective November 1st.  The Board expects to appoint Brown, 48, to the Board of Directors at its December 2011 meeting. Brown succeeds Howard Lance, who was CEO since January 2003 and announced his retirement.

Brown joins Harris from United Technologies Corporation, where he held several senior leadership roles since he joined the company in 1997. During the past six months, as Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Development, he has been responsible for the company?s global strategic planning and M&A activity.

Prior to that role he served five years as president of UTC?s $6.5 billion Fire & Security division, where he led 45,000 employees, operating 41 factories and  350 branches across 35 countries.  In this role, he successfully executed and integrated a number of acquisitions, grew sales from $4.2 billion to $6.5 billion and tripled operating profits.  During his tenure he transformed the division to a global leader in the $100 billion fire safety and electronic security market, while executing restructuring and productivity initiatives resulting in significant cost savings and return on capital improvement.

Jeff Brown New Entercom Market Manager in Boston

Julie Kahn makes the announcement that Brown will join her as the Market Manager of Entercom?s Boston radio stations later this month. Kahn will continue to serve as Entercom?s New England Market Manager. Brown replaces Tim Murphy, who joined the Entercom corporate team earlier this year as the VP of Digital Strategies and Enterprise Platforms. Brown teams with Kahn who has 11 years in the Boston market. He currently holds the position of Vice President and Market Manager of Entercom?s station in Portland, Oregon.
