No Deal in Bubba Attorney Case

3-26-15

Remember when Bubba The Love Sponge and Todd Schnitt were in court over name-calling? At the time Bubba's attorney's were accused of setting up Schnitt's attorney, Phil Campbell, for a DUI charge when a paralegal fed him drinks at a local bar and Campbell got into his car and drove. A judge has rejected a plea deal that would have kept three attorneys -- Stephen Diaco, Robert Adams and Adam Filthaut -- from going to court for the setup case. Channel 10 in Tampa reports the judge said the deal the attorneys sought was unacceptable and not harsh enough.

I'm sorry, I don't care WHO bought the drinks. If Captain Stupid drank the drinks and jumped into his car, without the purchaser holding a gun to his head, it's a legit DUI! Would it have been different if he'd bought the drinks himself? Absolutely not. Captain Stupid had plenty of options. From not accept the drinks in the first place to calling a cab because he chose to drink them.

The Bubba, Beasley Relationship Expands Today

1-5-15
Since Cox (102.5 The Bone) parted with Bubba The Love Sponge in Tampa, in August of 2014, there's been speculation about which company would pick him up in that city. It came down to Beasley and iHeartMedia, according to several people with details about the negotiations. Radio Ink has learned that this morning Bubba will hold a press conference, live on the air in Tampa, and that will take place on WHFS-FM (98.7) which is a Beasley station the company picked up late last year in a swap with CBS Radio. A new format is being launched by Beasley on WHFS. It had most recently been a sports station when CBS owned it.

Bubba to Clear Channel's 98 Rock?

8-29-14

That's the speculation in Tampa after it was announced The Bubba the Love Sponge morning show would no longer air on Cox's 102.5 The Bone, where it had been heard the previous 6 years before ending immediately on Friday. The two sides had been negotiating a new contract and could not come to an agreement. Radio Ink has been told by several sources that Bubba, who is syndicated on several other stations, will begin his new deal on 98 Rock in January of 2015.

Cox Tampa Market Manager Keith Lawless said, ?The Bone will discontinue airing the Bubba the Love Sponge Show effective immediately. We appreciate everything the Bubba the Love Sponge Show has done for us over the past six years. We now are taking the station in a different direction. CMG periodically changes direction, talent, and format of its various media programs in order to provide our audiences with fresh perspectives and compelling content. The Bone has proven to be one of America?s most outspoken radio stations. Tampa Bay can expect The Bone to continue to deliver ?Real, Raw, Radio? every day.?

Deleted The Bone ap. No reason to listen. Not shocked BTLS is gone (it was obvious something was happening)-shocked that the Billy Madison show is still in the line up. Bubba Army.

Probably b/c BTLS went down hill right after Spice left the show. I'm not sure if Spice gave Bubba direction, reeled him in, or what-- but the show became very bad, very fast.

The Bubba Schnitt Fight is Over

3-15-2013

After five years of battling against each other, a settlement has been reached, in mediation, between Bubba the Love Sponge and Todd "MY" Schnitt. Tampabay.com reports that after a 12-hour mediation session an agreements has been reached. Bubba cannot talk about Schnitt's wife on the air or he faces a $5,000 fine. He also cannot slander Todd Schnitt. Bubba also has agreed to not seek attorneys' fees from the Schnitts for the trial. Clem told radio listeners Friday that he had about $800,000 in legal fees. The Bubba Schnitt Circus Goes On

2-24-2013

Todd "MJ" Schnitt has decided the show must go on in Tampa. Schnitt fired the attorney who represented him during his lawsuit against Todd "Bubba The Love Sponge" Clem in Tampa. A new attorney is onboard and Schnitt apparently plans to continue his defamation claims against Clem. Phil Campbell, who was arrested for DUI during the case, is out and new attorney Wil Florin is in. In January a jury determined that Clem did not defame Schnitt and his wife. The Jury Gets Bubba Case Today

1-30-2013

Bubba's attorneys rested their case Tuesday, which was followed by the judge denying a motion to throw out the case. On Wednesday, closing statements will be followed by instructions from the judge and jury deliberation. Todd Schnitt has accused Bubba The Love Sponge Clem of making "false, highly offensive and defamatory statements" about him and his wife.

Some in the radio industry believe a Schnitt win could be devastating for free speech in general and what jocks are allowed to say on the radio. Others believe, as we have seen by comments on our page, that jocks like Bubba cross the line and deserve to be shut down.

Bubba Trial Focuses on Death Threats

1-17-2013

Former Clear Channel General Manager Dan DiLoreto took the stand Thursday in the Bubba The Love Sponge defamation lawsuit filed by Todd Schnitt. Tapes of previous Bubba shows were played where Bubba said Schnitt rigged a national contest and that  "I will not be happy until I have an MJ funeral in the streets in Tampa, Fla." There were also a lot of references to "Bubba's Army," as lawyers clearly tried to paint the group of Bubba listeners as a violent bunch.

DiLoreto told the court when the two jocks were working together at the same station they were told not

to talk about each other on the air, because they were feuding so much, and there were times they were called into his office to discuss their issues. Bubba was eventually hired by another station where the two became morning show rivals. In other Bubba clips played yesterday Bubba was heard saying, "We seek and destroy," and "MJ, that's the only person I really want to die, seriously." When Bubba's attorney asked DiLoreto if he thought Schnitt was at all financially damaged by the "Radio Wars," he answered no. DiLoreto testified that, in his opinion, comments made by Bubba on his radio program went beyond theatre of the mind.

There were many sidebars between lawyers and the judge yesterday which left the two former morning show rivals at their respective tables alone. In addition, when the website WTSP.com airs the trial live, many Bubba fans have been tweeting in a live chat box. The tweets, at times, have been extremely amusing.

Rick & Bubba Help Raise $1.2 Million

10-16-2012

The syndicated Rick & Bubba Show conducted a two-day Radiothon with World Vision that resulted in over 900 children being sponsored and $1.2 million raised. Since 2009, Rick & Bubba have helped find sponsors for over 3,500 kids and raised over $4.5 million.

Rick Burgess and Bill ?Bubba? Bussey commented, ?When you are given a platform like we have with this show, it's things like the World Vision Radiothon that really matter. At the end of our lives it's the things we do for the kingdom of God that will judge whether we were truly successful or not. God has given us an audience that gets that and to think that a little over 30 dollars a month is now going to be sent to families that make an average of 80 dollars a year all over the world is powerful. It's humbling to think that somehow we are allowed to be part of something that made a difference. Isn't that what we all hope to achieve in this business??

Rick and Bubba are syndicated by Syndicated Solutions, Inc. and are heard on over 60 stations.

Rick & Bubba Raise Big Money For Kids

A two-day radiothon resulted in 825 children being sponsored and over $1 Million being raised by Rick & Bubba. The morning duo, syndicated by SSI, worked with World Vision to sponsor the children in more than 45 countries. Since 2009 Rick & Bubba have raised nearly $3.5 million to help kids.

Rick Burgess and Bill ?Bubba? Bussey commented ?Until three years ago, we hadn?t done a Radiothon and weren?t sure what to expect. When SSI introduced World Vision and we learned about how impressive an organization they are, we wanted in. The global impact we've been able to make on over 825 children?s lives this year, and over 2600 children since 2009, is beyond words. The overwhelming response from our listeners and the ability to be part of something so meaningful just blows us away. Doing what we do for a living and being able to make such an impact through World Vision really does make it all worth while.?
