Sileo Lands in San Diego

1-31-14

1090-AM XEPRS, also known as The Mighty 1090, has hired the controversial Dan Sileo to host mornings. The station is run by highly respected industry vet Norm Feuer. Sileo spent most of his radio career in Florida but was fired by both Beasley (WQAM) and Clear Channel (WDAE) for edgy comments and tweets. Sileo said, ?The past couple of years in radio has taught me a lot and I plan on applying those lessons to my passionate and sometimes emotional approach to sports to create a great experience for San Diego fans, both hard-core and casual.?

Feuer said, ?I?m very excited about the dynamic and successful Dan Sileo joining us and the best sports talent line up in all of Southern California. We are sure he will make a dramatic impact on the Mighty 1090. Sileo will replace long time sports radio veteran Lee ?Hacksaw? Hamilton who will remain with The Mighty 1090 in a new capacity to be announced in the next few weeks.

1090 did not shy away from the controversial sports talker's history. From the company press release: "Dan makes no secret of the fact that controversy has occasionally been intertwined with his rapid rise in the sports radio business. He was fired from his job in Tampa where he left with the highest rated sports program in the State of Florida which was also one of the highest rated in the country. He violated Clear Channel?s policy prohibiting employees from speaking with media critics. In Miami, Dan was highly critical of his beloved Hurricanes and their fall from the elite ranks which he openly blamed on University of Miami President Donna Shalala. Because the station was the flagship for Hurricane sports, pressure was applied to WQAM where they eventually let him go."

KMYI-FM San Diego Gets New Morning Team

7-23-2012
Clear Channel's KMYI-FM will kick off a new morning show pairing on July 30th. Jesse Lozano will team up with Delana Bennett for "Jesse Lozano in the Morning." Lozano will continue his live afternoon drive show on KIIS-FM in Los Angeles. Market Manager Debbie Wagner says, ?In addition to being some of the best on-air talent in the country, Jesse Lozano and Delana Bennett are also really great people, committed to the San Diego market.  It?s exciting to bring these enthusiastic and community-minded personalities together for a show that?s sure to entertain Star listeners and the entire Southern California region."
Best known to San Diegans as Boy Toy Jesse, Jesse Lozano began his radio career as an intern at Channel 933 (KHTS-FM) in 1999.  Within a few years, his talent and enthusiasm landed him a position on Channel 933?s morning show and eventually his own midday show.  Just as Jesse was adjusting to his full-time radio career, he also became a single parent and full-time father to his baby girl Savanna, who continues to be a focal point of his life and on-air persona.  In 2006 Jesse accepted a position with KIIS-FM in Los Angeles as their afternoon drive host.  Over the last six years, Jesse has successfully balanced afternoon drive shifts for both KHTS-FM in San Diego and KIIS-FM in Los Angeles with being a full-time dad.  This balancing act will continue as Jesse maintains his afternoon drive position on KIIS-FM and takes on morning drive at KMYI-FM.  When asked about hosting mornings in his hometown of San Diego, Jesse said ?I feel like a lot of hard work just paid off.  Timing is everything and I believe this next step has been years in the making. Once again Clear Channel has found a way to help me realize long time career goals while enabling me to keep my family my main priority.  I'm lucky a pro like Delana can help in the process of making a show I have been thinking about for years.  This is truly a dream come true.?

Balderas Leads Killer Revenue Panel in San Diego

1-9-2012
As March 21 quickly approaches, we want to be sure to give you the details on some of the panels that will highlight our Hispanic Radio Conference program. Angelica Balderas is the National Sales Manager for Adelante Media Group, and she'll moderate a panel focused on how stations can find and capture revenue in 2012. She says the panel will fous on several details that will help uncover that money.

- Spanish stations pricing off general-market cost per point -- and  how we move marketers, but more importantly their agencies, to plan inclusion of Spanish.
- What is the right revenue mix for a successful Spanish station (national, agency, local direct)? How much do you have to depend on Hispanic-owned businesses to make you profitable?
- How do you balance a sales staff when  you have general market sellers, bilingual sellers, and Spanish dominant sellers?
- How do you do it right and hit it out of the park?

During the show awards will be given out to the best Hispanic broadcasters in the country. Nominations are being accepted now. Here are the categories:

Perhaps Angelica can also explain Adelante Media's strategy of using live radio ads dressed up as contests for "winning" Disney vacations, not before the "winner" has to provide a credit card which will get charged hundreds of dollars after "winning" the radio "contest".

And how about all the live natural Viagra ads on Adelante stations? Talk about shamelessly misleading your audience.

I guess that's a killer revenue they are talking about.

Hispanic Origin. Persons of Hispanic origin were identified by a question that asked for self-identification of the person's origin or descent. Respondents were asked to select their origin (and the origin of other household members) from a "flash card" listing ethnic origins. Persons of Hispanic origin, in particular, were those who indicated that their origin was Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or some other Hispanic origin. It should be noted that persons of Hispanic

Also, to all those people that like to INCORRECTLY use the term "LATINO", could you please define it and then define the term "LATIN AMERICAN"as well, and tell me what the difference is?????
(1/19/2012 11:17:09 AM)
HISPANIC Radio???? Is there "ANGLOSAXON", "BLACK /AFRICAN/AFRICAN-AMERICAN", or "NATIVE AMERICAN" Radio as well??? I understand that the people at RADIO INK are not of Hispanic (WRONGLY phrased as Latino) descent, but if they are going to write about something, they should inform themselves FIRST, this way, they will avoid making these errors.....
The right term is "SPANISH" Radio, as it refers to the LANGUAGE format, which is obviously
SPANISH, and NOT to an ETHNICITY....
(1/13/2012 9:35:26 AM)
If you are attending make sure you put Angie's panel on your "must see" list. I have had the pleasure to meet and work with her over the past several years.
Bright, insightful, strategic and a dynamic seller.
