Sileo Lands in San Diego

1-31-14

1090-AM XEPRS, also known as The Mighty 1090, has hired the controversial Dan Sileo to host mornings. The station is run by highly respected industry vet Norm Feuer. Sileo spent most of his radio career in Florida but was fired by both Beasley (WQAM) and Clear Channel (WDAE) for edgy comments and tweets. Sileo said, ?The past couple of years in radio has taught me a lot and I plan on applying those lessons to my passionate and sometimes emotional approach to sports to create a great experience for San Diego fans, both hard-core and casual.?

Feuer said, ?I?m very excited about the dynamic and successful Dan Sileo joining us and the best sports talent line up in all of Southern California. We are sure he will make a dramatic impact on the Mighty 1090. Sileo will replace long time sports radio veteran Lee ?Hacksaw? Hamilton who will remain with The Mighty 1090 in a new capacity to be announced in the next few weeks.

1090 did not shy away from the controversial sports talker's history. From the company press release: "Dan makes no secret of the fact that controversy has occasionally been intertwined with his rapid rise in the sports radio business. He was fired from his job in Tampa where he left with the highest rated sports program in the State of Florida which was also one of the highest rated in the country. He violated Clear Channel?s policy prohibiting employees from speaking with media critics. In Miami, Dan was highly critical of his beloved Hurricanes and their fall from the elite ranks which he openly blamed on University of Miami President Donna Shalala. Because the station was the flagship for Hurricane sports, pressure was applied to WQAM where they eventually let him go."
