NABEF Sales Institute Registration Opens

The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation's Media Sales Institute is a 10-day program that trains young professionals for entry into the media sales industry. This year's program will take place at four universities: Arizona State University, June 7-16; Florida A&M University, May 11-21; Howard University, May 31-June 11; and Ohio University, May 11-21. Recruiter registration for the institutes is now open.

NABEF President Marcellus Alexander said: "The NABEF Media Sales Institute continues to prepare tomorrow's leaders for successful careers in the broadcast industry. We are proud to partner with four strong universities to develop participants into multi-platform media professionals."

According to the NABEF, over 75 percent of participants are hired in a related position within two weeks to one month of completion of the program.

NABEF Announces Career Day In Vegas

The NAB Education Foundation, in partnership with the Broadcast Education Association, announced the addition of a Military Veteran Resource Center to NAB Show's Career Day, Wednesday, April 9, in Las Vegas, NV. Located in the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino Pavilion, Career Day is an annual event that provides college students, entry-level job seekers, and experienced professionals with the opportunity to interact with media industry recruiters. NAB Show is the world's largest annual conference and expo for professionals who create, manage, and distribute entertainment across all platforms.

This year, NABEF has partnered with representatives from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Hiring Our Heroes program, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Quaestor Federal Consulting to offer resources for veterans and employers. Immediately prior to the Career Fair, employers can attend a free session from 9-10:00 a.m. focusing on the business case for hiring military veterans and skill sets veterans possess that can be applied to the broadcast industry. During the Career Fair, the Military Veterans Resource Center booth will provide advice and opportunities for training related to a successful job search as well as information for both recruiters and job seekers.

Job seekers can attend sessions throughout the day on personal brand management, dressing for success, and information on jobs in broadcasting. Career Day will offer the popular one-on-one career coaching sessions that include resume critiques and interview strategies. Recruiters include Beasley Broadcast Group, CNN/Turner Broadcasting, ESPN, Gannett, NEP Broadcasting, PBS Las Vegas, Radionomy, and Univision Radio.

NABEF Honors GM With Corporate Leadership Award

The NAB Education Foundation is set to present its Corporate Leadership Award to General Motors during the 16th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards. The award is given each year to a non-broadcast business that "exemplifies an extraordinary focus on community service and corporate social responsibility."

NABEF President Marcellus Alexander said, "Through strong, ongoing support of education, health, community development, and environmental initiatives, General Motors and the General Motors Foundation have made a positive impact on American society."

The GM Foundation has granted more than $265 million in support of various nonprofits since it was founded in 1976.

GM SVP/Global Public Policy and Communications and GM Foundation Chair Selim Bingol said, "The GM Foundation is dedicated to making life better for communities across the U.S., and for the people who live there. We thank NABEF for this special recognition and promise to continue trying to make a difference in the lives of Americans."

The Celebration of Service to America Awards will be held June 17 at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC.

NABEF Celebration Is Monday

The 15th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards, produced by the NAB Education Foundation is Monday in D.C. The gala will honor radio and television broadcasters from across the country for exceptional community service. The event will also include the presentation of NABEF's highest honor, the Service to America Leadership Award, to Stevie Wonder.

The event is being held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center with a reception from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. and the dinner and awards presentation: 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

The Celebration of Service to America Awards are sponsored and produced by NABEF with major support from Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc., Bonneville International Corporation, and the National Association of Broadcasters.

In recent years, award-winning actress Glenn Close, Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges, entertainment industry icon Quincy Jones, legendary rock star Sir Elton John, President Bill Clinton, First Lady Laura Bush, Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, boxing legend Muhammad Ali, President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalyn Carter, and First Lady Nancy Reagan, among others, have been presented with the Celebration of Service to America Leadership Award at the event. Norville To Emcee NABEF Awards

Inside Edition host Deborah Norville will serve as MC at the NAB Education Foundation's (NABEF) 14th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards, June 3, at the Washington Convention Center. The celebration recognizes broadcasters for outstanding service to their local communities. Mallory Hagan, Miss America 2013, will make an appearance.

NABEF To Host Radio Show Career Fair

The NAB Education Foundation, in partnership with the Broadcast Education Association, will host a Career Fair on September 18, 2012, one day prior to the 2012 Radio Show kickoff. Located in the Hilton Anatole from 1-5:00 p.m., the Radio Show Career Fair will provide experienced professionals, college students, and entry-level job seekers with the opportunity to network and interview with major radio companies.

This year?s Career Fair will feature round-table-style networking and group interviews, allowing attendees and recruiters to interact in a fast-paced, personal and competitive setting. Entry-level candidates as well as seasoned professionals interested in radio opportunities in sales, technology, and on-air should register online. Admission is free with attendee code CF12, and registration includes entry to the exhibit floor of the Radio Show.

NABEF Announces Employment Webinar Series

The NAB Education Foundation says its spring Broadcast Career Link webinar series will begin Wednesday, March 14.  The webinars will provide continuing education programs and best practices for both recruiters and job seekers in the broadcast industry. The webinars will be free for job seekers. The first webinar, titled "Show Me the Talent! New Trends on Seeking the Right Person for Your Job," will discuss unconventional strategies and social media tactics on how to position jobs to reach the appropriate audience.

NABEF Announces Freedom of Speech PSA Winners

July 5, 2011

The NAB Education Foundation and the Broadcast Education Association announced today the winners of their annual Freedom of Speech public service announcement competition for college communications students. The first-place winners for radio will be recognized at the Society of Professional Journalists' annual conference on Monday, September 26, 2011 in New Orleans, LA. More than 100 communications students from across the country competed in the Freedom of Speech PSA contest calling for 30-second spots that creatively address "What freedom of speech means to me."

1st Place: Caitlin Johnson, Rowan University
2nd Place: Saraya Wintersmith, Howard University
3rd place: Mason Alexander, The Art Institute of Atlanta

The Freedom of Speech PSA contest was presented by NABEF and BEA, with major funding from the McCormick Foundation. Winning PSAs may be viewed at www.freedomofspeechpsa.org and will be available for download Friday, July 15, 2011 on the NAB Spot Center.
